Chapter 2
Valery slammed her back against the moss-slicked pine trunk, her nails digging so violently into the rough bark that two of them split at the quick, spurting fresh blood into the dark wood.
Fuck.
The bond didn't just burn; it felt like Kaelen’s claws were physically dragging down her spine from thirty yards away, tearing through meat and bone. Through the magical tether pulsing inside her skull, she could hear the ragged, heavy crunch of heavy combat boots crushing frozen pine needles. They weren't slowing down. They were hunting.
"One more step, Kaelen," Valery choked out, her gloved hand flying to her belt and ripping her silver rune dagger from its sheath before her knees could buckle under the brutal pulse of shared heat. "One more fucking step, and I’ll drive this blade straight into my own thigh just to watch you collapse in the dirt."
The crunching stopped instantly.
Kaelen emerged from the swirling mountain mist like a primordial war beast. His dark leather armor was unbuttoned at the sternum, revealing a massive chest slicked with sweat that glistened under the bloody moonlight. His golden eyes were fully blown, pupils dilated until almost no iris remained, consumed entirely by a wolf standing on the edge of a murderous rampage. He held his large, scarred hands out in front of him, his claw-like fingers twitching with the primal, unyielding urge to reach out and grab her.
"Do it, then," Kaelen rasped, his voice a low, gravelly vibration that shook the damp pine needles above their heads. "Drive the steel in, Valery. Pain is a hell of a lot better than this goddamn fever."
Behind the Alpha, Julian stumbled out of the brush, catching himself heavily against a jagged, moss-covered boulder. The ancient, dark runes tattooed across his bare torso weren't just glowing—they were pulsing in rapid, violet flashes in time with the frantic rhythm of Valery’s hammering heart.
"She’s not bluffin', Alpha," Julian wheezed, a breathless, dark laugh tearing from his throat as he wiped sweat from his eyes. "Look at her eyes. She’s an Enforcer. She’d bleed us all dry right here in the mud just to prove a fucking point."
"Quiet, both of you!" Sean growled from the rear.
The Beta strategist looked the worst of the three. His usual crisp, military composure was entirely shattered. His silver hair was a wild mess, his pale skin flushed a dark, feverish red, and his high-grade tactical daggers were left discarded somewhere back in the dirt at the altar. He gripped his own throat with trembling hands, his knuckles white, leaving deep red indentations on his skin as if trying to rip away an invisible, suffocating iron collar.
"She controls the feedback loop," Sean forced out through gritted teeth, his pale blue eyes wide with analytical terror as he locked onto Valery’s bleeding fingers. "The sabotaged spell didn't just fuse our physical states—it gave her administrative authority over the bond's energy output. If she hurts herself, the tether amplifies the shockwave before sending it straight into our nervous systems. She isn't just our mate... she’s the goddamn anchor."
Valery wiped the drop of fresh blood from her split lip with the back of her gloved hand. Her silver eyes remained fixed on Kaelen, cold, calculating, and utterly merciless. She didn't offer a gentle touch, nor did she lower her blade an inch.
Instead, she pushed herself away from the pine tree, her boots planting firmly in the frozen mud. She didn't draw back her aura to comfort them. Instead, she gathered her Enforcer energy and slammed it outward through the tether—not as an invitation, but as a heavy, suffocating wall of mental rejection.
"Here are the rules," Valery spat, her voice ringing sharp and clear through the freezing night air. "You want the burning in your blood to stop? You take three steps back. Now."
Kaelen bared his elongated fangs, a deep, guttural growl erupting from deep within his chest. The territorial beast inside him fought the command violently, his massive, broad frame shuddering under the immense weight of his own dominant pride. "An Alpha does not retreat from his female."
"This female isn't yours," Valery snapped. She took a half-step forward, brought the razor-sharp tip of her dagger down, and pressed it hard into her own leather wrist-guard, right over her beating pulse point. "Three. Steps. Back. Or we test how much blood your wolf can lose before you pass out."
The sheer willpower backing her command, amplified by the raw, corrupted magic of the broken altar, struck the bond line like an iron whip.
Sean gasped, taking two steps back involuntarily as his knees gave out, sending him crashing into the frozen brush. Julian cursed wildly under his breath, dropping to one knee with his hands raised in bitter surrender, his tattooed chest heaving.
Kaelen stood his ground for two agonizing seconds. His muscles were strain-locked, thick veins bulging along his neck and arms as he fought the invisible compulsion tearing at his mind. But as Valery pressed the edge of the blade deeper, cutting through the leather until a fine line of crimson appeared on her skin, the shared phantom agony shot straight into Kaelen's heart.
With a low, defeated snarl, Kaelen retreated three heavy, agonizing paces back into the mist.
The moment his heavy boots hit the dirt, the suffocating physical pressure in the air eased slightly. The roaring, infernal fever in Valery's veins dulled from an overwhelming wave to a manageable, throbbing ache.
Julian let out a long, ragged whistle, dragging his forearm across his drenched forehead. "Fuck me... she actually made the Bloodfang Alpha step down."
"Shut your mouth, Rogue," Kaelen growled, never taking his glowing eyes off Valery. His chest heaved in heavy rhythm, but the blind, animalistic madness in his gaze had cleared just enough for cold reason to return. "You have our attention, Enforcer. Speak."
"The altar trap was rigged with blood-bound silver and dark runes," Valery said, her tone stripping away any lingering romantic or erotic pretense, turning the encounter into a tactical briefing. "Whoever set that trap didn't expect us to survive the initial shockwave. When they realize the spell inverted and fused us instead of turning our brains to ash, they will send heavy hunters to clear the evidence."
"My former pack's high council," Sean cut in, forcing himself to stand upright while leaning heavily against a tree trunk. "If the elders find out I am magically tethered to a Rogue prince and the Bloodfang Alpha, they’ll declare it high treason and put a bounty on all four of our heads before sunrise."
"Then we don't go to the Pack lands," Valery stated plainly. "We need a neutral, fortified location. Julian, where is your lair?"
Julian smirked, though his skin was still flushed red from the lingering heat. "Dead Ridge caverns. Three miles north through the ravines. Reinforced iron doors, underground hot springs, zero Council scouts. Completely off the grid."
"We move to the caverns now," Valery ordered, sheathing her silver dagger with a sharp, echoing click. She locked eyes with Kaelen, whose jaw was still set in a dangerous, rigid line. "Once we're behind stone walls, we figure out how to stabilize this fever without anyone losing their mind. But let me be crystal clear: if any of you try to force a mark or put your hands on me while my back is turned..."
She left the threat hanging in the freezing air. She didn't need to finish it; her silver eyes, flashing with unyielding Enforcer authority, said everything.
Kaelen rolled his broad shoulders, pulling his dark leather vest back over his chest to hide his glowing skin. The territorial beast inside him was still clawing at his ribs, screaming for dominance and possession, but the battle-tested strategist in him recognized the cold, lethal truth.
The female standing before them in the bleeding moonlight wasn't a prize to be claimed or a mate to be protected.
She was the captain of a sinking ship, and if they wanted to survive the night, they had no choice but to follow her lead.
"Lead the way, Enforcer," Kaelen grunted, stepping aside to yield the narrow forest trail to her. "Before I change my mind and test how fast that blade of yours really is."
Chapter 3
Kaelen didn't even wait for the heavy iron door to finish latching before he threw Valery against the cavern wall.
The thud of her spine hitting the cold, damp stone rattled her back teeth. Before she could draw her silver blade, Kaelen’s massive palms slammed onto the rock on either side of her head, trapping her in his shadow. His leather armor was ripped open down the sternum, slick with sweat. His golden eyes were blown completely black, pupil swallowing iris.
"No more talk, Enforcer," Kaelen rasped, his hot, erratic breath blasting against her dry lips. "Fix this fever before I tear your clothes off and fix it myself."
Valery didn't flinch. She drove the heel of her combat boot straight into Kaelen's shin.
Kaelen grunted, the heavy impact barely making him flinch, but it bought her an inch of space. She jammed her forearm against his throat, forcing the massive Alpha’s head back just enough so he couldn't lean down and sink his elongated fangs into her neck.
"You lay a hand on my collar, Kaelen, and I’ll sever the energy line completely," Valery snarled, her breath coming in ragged hitches as the tight enclosure of the cavern amplified the shared heat tenfold. "You want relief? You ask for it like a man, not a rabid dog."
Behind Kaelen, Julian threw the heavy iron bolt into place with a harsh, metallic clatter. The moment the outer mountain air was cut off, Julian dropped to his knees right on the wet gravel. He slammed his fist into the stone, cracking his own knuckles just to focus on real pain.
"She's right, Alpha," Julian wheezed, his bare chest heaving as the dark, tattooed runes across his skin flared a violent crimson. "My serigala is clawing my ribs from the inside out. But if she shuts the tether off... we’re dead in twenty minutes."
Sean stumbled past them toward the stone table, his face deadly pale, his hands shaking so violently he had to grip the edge of the wood to keep from falling. His usual tactical composure was completely gone, his eyes wide with a manic, desperate clarity.
"It's the enclosed space," Sean forced out, his teeth chattering from the intense physical shock. "The spell is turning this cave into a pressure cooker. We don't need a full claim... we just need a physical circuit to ground the feedback loop. Skin-to-skin contact, Valery. That's all it takes to bleed off the surge."
Valery looked back up at Kaelen. The Alpha’s chest was heaving inches from hers, his heart hammering like a war drum against his ribs. She could feel his internal war through the bond—the primal urge to crush her under his weight versus the cold, battle-tested intellect warning him that she was the only thing holding his sanity together.
"Skin-to-skin," Valery repeated coldly, her forearm still pressed firmly against Kaelen's windpipe. "No fangs. No marks. If I feel a single tooth scrape my skin, I slam the door shut and let your brains cook."
"Do it," Kaelen growled through his teeth, his jaw clenched so hard a muscle twitched near his ear. "Just touch me, Valery."
Valery unbuckled her weapon belt, letting her heavy silver dagger drop onto the stone floor with a sharp clatter. She unzipped her heavy Enforcer jacket and let it slide off her shoulders, leaving her in a thin, sleeveless dark tunic.
Kaelen didn't hesitate. The moment her shoulders were exposed, he reached out and slammed his bare, calloused hands onto her upper arms.
The contact hit them like a lightning strike.
Valery’s head snapped back against the stone wall as a violent surge of pure energy shot straight down her spine. The suffocating, infernal heat in her blood didn't disappear—it transformed. The trapped, agonizing fever melted instantly into a heavy, intoxicating current of power circulating between their bodies.
Kaelen let out a low, shuddering groan, his forehead dropping forward until it rested against the crook of Valery’s neck. His massive frame shuddered as the wild, chaotic pressure in his chest bled out, grounding directly into her Enforcer core.
"Fuck..." Julian rasped from the floor. He scrambled up, drawn like a moth to a flame, and slammed his broad palm against the small of Valery’s back.
Another violent shockwave rattled her teeth. Julian’s wild, chaotic Lycan magic poured into the circuit, fusing with Kaelen’s heavy Alpha aura. Valery gasped, her hands instinctively grabbing Kaelen’s bare, muscular shoulders to keep her legs from giving out under the sheer sensory overload.
"Sean," Valery choked out, her silver eyes half-closed, her voice thick with raw, irresistible heat. "Get over here."
Sean didn't waste time with pride. He closed the distance and pressed his hands flat against Valery’s waist, his cold fingers digging into the damp fabric of her tunic.
The moment all four of them locked together, the cavern fell deathly quiet except for their heavy, synchronized breathing.
The chaotic fever was gone. In its place was a steady, high-voltage current of magic looping through the four of them—three feared male leaders pinned around one woman, flushed, breathless, and entirely stabilized under her authority.
Kaelen slowly lifted his head, his golden eyes clear of the blind wolf-madness now, though they burned with a dangerous, permanent intensity. He looked down at Valery, his large thumb brushing a stray strand of dark hair away from her flushed cheek.
"The fever is stabilized," Kaelen whispered, his deep voice vibrating against her skin. "But you know what this means, Enforcer. We can't walk away from each other now."
Valery gripped Kaelen’s arms, pushing back just enough to create an inch of space between their chests. She looked Kaelen dead in the eye, then swept her fierce gaze over Julian and Sean.
"I’m not walking away," Valery said, her voice dropping to a dangerous, icy whisper that echoed against the damp cavern walls. "Whoever rigged that altar tried to turn us into corpses. Instead, they just gave me an army. Tomorrow, we hunt."
Chapter 4
Valery pulled her fingers out of Kaelen’s grip so fast the sudden loss of friction made her skin sting.
"Back off," she breathed, her voice raspy as she yanked her heavy Enforcer vest back over her shoulders, zipping it clear up to her chin to block out the overwhelming heat still radiating off the three men. "The fever is down. That doesn't mean we’re throwing a party."
Kaelen didn't step back. He stayed looming over her, sweat still glistening on the hard contours of his bare chest, his golden eyes watching every movement of her hands with the quiet, terrifying possessiveness of a wolf that had just tasted blood.
"You can put your armor back on all you want, Valery," Julian drawled from the shadows. He marched over to an old iron supply chest by the cavern wall and kicked the rusted latch until the metal snapped with a sharp crack. "We can still feel your pulse pounding in our own throats."
"Let it pound," Valery snapped, stepping around Kaelen and unrolling a worn, ink-stained sheepskin map onto the stone table. "Because if we don't figure out who set that trap at the altar, none of us will have throats by morning."
Sean cleared his throat, pushing his silver hair out of his eyes as he stepped up to the table. The violent tremor in his hands was gone, replaced by the sharp, calculating focus of a military strategist, though his pale blue eyes still burned with a dark, lingering intensity whenever they flicked to Valery's neck.
"The spell at the altar wasn't just sabotaged," Sean said, leaning his hands flat on the rock table. "It was rigged with blood-bound silver. That metal doesn't exist in the wild. It’s mined exclusively in the deep trenches of the Northern Reach—territory controlled directly by the Pack Council."
"The Council elders wouldn't mine blood-silver without an official decree," Kaelen grunted, his voice a low rumble that vibrated through the stone floor. He stepped up beside Valery, his massive shoulder deliberately brushing against hers, sending a small, electrical thrum of energy down the tether. "Which means this wasn't an ambush by a rogue gang. It was an execution order from the top."
Valery looked down at the map, her eyes narrowing as she traced the red-inked trade lines running from the northern mountains down into the borderlands of Jagged Ridge.
"They wanted all four of us dead in one strike," Valery said, her voice dropping into a cold, surgical tone. "Think about the fallout. If the Bloodfang Alpha, the exiled Lycan prince, the chief Beta strategist, and the High Enforcer all turn to ash at the altar... who steps in to claim the territory?"
The air in the cavern instantly turned heavy.
"Marek," Kaelen spat, his jaw clenching so hard a muscle twitched violently along his cheek.
The name hit the quiet cavern like a physical strike. At the mention of it, Valery’s heart gave an involuntary, bitter spike—a sharp surge of anger that radiated straight down the tether line. Both Kaelen and Julian snapped their heads toward her, reacting instantly to the ripple of her emotional shift.
Marek. The Alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack. Her former Alpha. The man who had rejected her three years ago, branding her a defective, rebellious rogue when she refused to submit to his pack laws, forcing her into the dangerous, solitary life of an Enforcer.
"Marek has been pushing for a unified Council seat for two years," Sean analyzed, his eyes scanning Valery’s rigid posture. "If the three major threat vectors in Jagged Ridge are wiped out, Marek’s pack automatically inherits the borderlands by default rule of succession."
"That bastard," Julian growled, a wicked smirk curling his lips even as his dark eyes burned with lethal intent. He leaned against the table, his long fingers idly tracing the edge of Valery’s arm. "He didn't just want the land. He wanted to erase the woman who proved his precious pack laws were complete garbage."
Valery glanced at Julian’s hand near hers. The subtle, skin-to-skin touch sent a soothing wave of warm energy through the bond, instantly smoothing out the bitter edge of her rage. She didn't pull away. She used the surge of power to sharpen her focus.
"Marek thinks we’re dead," Valery said, her silver eyes locking onto the map's center. "He thinks the altar trap turned us to ash or drove our wolves into a mutual slaughter. Right now, he’s waiting for his scouts to bring back confirmation of our corpses so he can march his army into Jagged Ridge under the guise of 'restoring order'."
"Then we give him his confirmation," Kaelen grunted, his large hand slamming onto the parchment right over the Crescent Moon territory. "We let his scouts march into the ridge. But instead of corpses, he finds an ambush."
"No," Valery countered instantly, looking up to meet Kaelen’s golden glare. "An ambush is what an Alpha does when he wants a bloody turf war. We aren't fighting a turf war, Kaelen. We are burning his legitimacy to the ground."
Sean raised an eyebrow, a faint, approving smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. "You have a tactical blueprint, Enforcer."
"Marek’s power relies entirely on the perception that he is the rightful protector of the ancestral laws," Valery explained, her voice dropping into an icy whisper. "If we simply slaughter his scouts in the woods, the Council will label us rogues and send the entire northern alliance to hunt us down. But if we expose the fact that he used forbidden blood-silver to murder council members and desecrate sacred ground..."
"The Council will be forced to strip his rank," Sean finished, his eyes lighting up with calculating appreciation. "Or at the very least, his own pack elders will turn on him from the inside."
"To do that, we need physical proof," Julian added, tapping his sharp claws against the stone. "The unused blood-silver crates. Marek wouldn't keep something that toxic near his main compound. He’d store it at his forward supply depot on the river border."
"The River Redoubt," Kaelen identified instantly, his eyes narrowing. "Guarded by two squads of Crescent Moon elite enforcers."
"Then that’s our first target," Valery declared, her voice ringing clear through the subterranean chamber.
The Triple Eclipse Bond flared in response, vibrating with a unified surge of dark anticipation. For the first time since the explosion at the altar, the magical tether wasn't tearing them apart with agonizing fever or territorial friction. It was locking their minds into a single, lethal weapon.
Kaelen leaned down, his massive frame blotting out the light, his golden eyes burning with an intense, dark devotion that sent a shudder straight down Valery’s spine. "The River Redoubt is heavily fortified, Valery. Even with the four of us, a direct assault means a bloodbath."
"We aren't doing a direct assault," Valery replied, a cold, dangerous smile touching her lips as her silver eyes flashed under the amber glow of the braziers. "We are going to weaponize the bond. You three are going to feed me your aura projections. I will walk through their front gates, neutralize their command structure from the inside, and you three will wipe out the perimeter before they even realize the ridge has a new sovereign."
Julian let out a low, raspy laugh of pure delight, dropping to one knee beside her and looking up at her like a predator admiring its master. "Gods above... I love a woman who plans a massacre before sunrise."
Sean picked up his tactical daggers from the table, spinning the steel in his hands with quiet precision. "I’ll prep the gear and scout the river routes."
Kaelen didn't pull back. He reached out with one broad, calloused hand, his fingers cupping the side of Valery's neck, his thumb tracing the sharp line of her jaw. The skin-to-skin touch sent a steady, high-voltage current of power lacing through their blood, sealing their unspoken pact.
"Your command, Enforcer," Kaelen whispered, his deep voice carrying the absolute weight of an Alpha’s yield. "Where you lead, we burn."
