Chapter 3

I refused to die for no reason. I had to explain the situation to him!

"You must have mistaken me for someone else. I've never been married. You'll know that I'm telling the truth when you look through the marriage registration system. My name won't show up in any marriage records!

"I've also saved all my photos in the cloud for the last six years. My personal album consists of photos of my daily life. I don't have a single photo with a man.

"The only people I chat with are my coworkers about work, and my family, who check in on me every day. I've never talked to any potential partners, let alone argue with someone about marriage and divorce!"

My vision was obscured with a flood of comments the moment the words left my lips.

"Oh my God! Has she lost her mind? Why's she still being so stubborn when she's in such a dangerous situation?"

"Seriously! Does she think that she can talk her way out of her predicament? Does she not realize who she's dealing with?"

"I'm done. I have no idea what her plan is. Is it possible that she's not lying? But no one's going to believe her!"

The man suddenly leaned toward me and plucked my phone out of my pocket. His fingers flew across the screen as a hint of barely discernible confusion flickered in his eyes. He then searched through my cloud until he found my personal album.

Hope bloomed in my heart then. I was convinced that the man was finally going to believe me.

However, the man suddenly let out a low chuckle in the next second. He hurled my phone to the ground before clamping his hands around my neck again.

"Do you take me for a fool?"

"I… I didn't…"

"She's way too gutsy. She's still trying to lie to him even though the cat is practically out of the bag."

"He's probably not going to forgive her this time. She's so terrible and stupid. She's basically signing her own death sentence by trying to come up with more excuses."

"I'm betting a bag of chips that she's not going to survive the night! Let's see what happens next!"

I felt like I was teetering on the verge of a breakdown as I read the comments.

"You've got the wrong person!" I exclaimed. "I don't know who did it, but someone stole my information and impersonated me! I have no idea who you are. Why won't you believe me? Why?"

I wondered who the malicious mastermind was pulling the strings behind the scenes. Why did they frame me like this?

I silently swore that I wouldn't let that person off the hook, even if I had to turn into a ghost and haunt them for the rest of their lives.

"Her panic looks genuine. Did someone actually impersonate her?"

"Oh my God! Is someone using her as a scapegoat? Maybe the impersonator was the one who fooled around with the man. And now, the real one is forced to bear the consequences of their actions."

"But how can someone fake a marriage? The man looked sick when he was going through her phone just now. He must have seen something devastating."

"This is getting really interesting. Who's the one who transmigrated into this world? Her or the other woman? We have to keep watching to find out the truth!"

Chapter 4

The man suddenly loosened his grip around my neck.

I gasped for breath as I collapsed against the seat and sputtered, "I truly have no idea who you are. I've also never been married. You've got the wrong person—"

Pain lanced through my stomach before I could finish my sentence. I looked down and noticed that my skirt was suddenly stained with blood.

A wave of embarrassment crashed over me. I hastily used my hands to cover up the stain, wishing that I could find a hole to crawl into.

"Oh wow! Her period started at the perfect time. She has such amazing luck! His heart will probably soften because of that."

"I bet he won't be able to do anything to her for now. Maybe he'll even start rubbing her stomach for her!"

I felt completely hopeless as I powered through the pain. The man had just been snarling at me a few seconds ago. There was no way that he would care about my well-being.

He didn't say a word as he glanced at my flushed face and my hands that were gripping the hem of my skirt. Instead, he started the van and drove it out of the parking lot.

Comments immediately began to fly across my vision.

"Is he really going to buy hot chocolate for her? His thoughtfulness is going to seem so sudden!"

"He's taking such good care of her, even though she played with his feelings. She really lucked out by deceiving him of all people."

"He's the ultimate combination of being a hopeless romantic and a simp for her. There's no saving him now. I'm actually getting mad just watching him!"

The van slowed to a stop in front of a cafe.

The man got out, and it didn't take long for him to return with a cup of chocolate that he shoved into my hand.

A flurry of complicated emotions raged within me as I remained rooted to my seat.

The man drove to a convenience store before I could gather my thoughts. He was holding a pack of sanitary pads as he pulled open the door and dragged me out of the van.

"I'll walk you to the restroom."

"I can go by myself," I replied in a rush, unused to being so intimate with him.

However, the man didn't loosen his grip on me and insisted on walking me to the restroom. He even removed his coat and tied it around my waist to hide the stain on my skirt.

Although his movements were clumsy, I could sense the thoughtfulness in his actions.

"Oh my God, he's spoiling her rotten. What kind of spell did that gold-digger cast on him to mesmerize him so thoroughly?"

"Isn't this supposed to be an abduction? Why is he suddenly fussing over her because she got her period? He totally forgot what he was doing, didn't he?"

My heart was in total disarray when I exited the bathroom and got back into the van, cradling the cup of hot chocolate between my hands.

However, I was certain of my own character. Even if I were suffering from amnesia, I was confident that I wouldn't toy with someone's feelings.

But I was even more certain that I hadn't lost my memory, which made the current predicament I was in even more strange.

Could it be that I had a doppelganger who married this man? But why would they try to drag my name through the mud?

I closed my eyes and mulled over my thoughts. My eyes flew open in the next second when I suddenly understood what was going on.
