Chapter 2
: I Died
2
I died of cardiac arrest, right in the apartment I had only recently started renting.
Simon Sutton and I had been fighting frequently these past few days.
The cause was Linnet Ashwood, the one person who made me feel most insecure about our love.
I had been in love with Simon Sutton for six years.
Likewise, Simon Sutton had secretly loved Linnet Ashwood for six years.
She was his old flame, and I...
...was perhaps just a pathetic clown in their eyes.
After graduating, Linnet Ashwood quickly found and married a rich, divorced, middle-aged man.
The two of them moved abroad to live, but this year, her husband suddenly fell ill and passed away.
Linnet Ashwood didn't even have time to have a single child.
All the assets were divided up among the man's children, and Linnet Ashwood didn't get a single penny.
When she came back, the first person she ran to was Simon Sutton.
"You should know full well what Linnet Ashwood is really after."
"I refuse to let you bring her home to live with us."
This led to a huge fight with Simon Sutton. "I've explained it a million times," he said. "I don't have feelings for her anymore."
"An old classmate has fallen on hard times. Can you really just stand by and not help?"
The argument ended with me slamming the door and storming out.
It was the first time Simon Sutton and I had ever fought in all the time we'd been together.
After Linnet Ashwood left to get married, Simon Sutton had been depressed for two months.
It must have been my meticulous care for him during those two months that finally won him over.
Perhaps to Simon Sutton, I was just the most suitable woman to marry.
Since he had already lost his greatest love, it no longer mattered who he married.
That night, after I left, Simon Sutton—a man who never lifted a finger around the house—actually went to heat up milk for Linnet Ashwood.
I watched him burn himself, a blister immediately swelling on his skin.
My first instinct was to go get the first-aid kit.
But when I saw Linnet Ashwood blush and take Simon Sutton's finger into her mouth, I suddenly laughed.
Right.
I'm dead.
The stumbling block keeping them from being a perfect couple was gone.
No one could even hear a single word of my heart-wrenching accusations that Linnet Ashwood was a homewrecker.
Chapter 3
: The White Shirt
3
Linnet Ashwood arrived empty-handed.
The next morning, I watched as she woke up and ran her long, slender fingers through my closet.
Finally, her fingers settled on one of Simon Sutton's loose-fitting white shirts.
A sudden smile spread across Linnet Ashwood's face.
After putting on the shirt, she hopped happily and ran to the living room.
"Simon Sutton!"
'She's so screwed,' I thought.
Simon Sutton owned a lot of white shirts, many of them nearly identical in style, which was something I never understood.
On the rare occasion I playfully asked to wear one, Simon would just placidly take the shirt from my hands.
"You know I don't like other people touching them. If you like it, go buy one for yourself."
ZenPay transfer received: $30.
All I could do was stare at the thirty dollars and try to console myself.
But now, Simon was... stunned?
"Do you remember how I told you my favorite thing was seeing you in a white shirt?"
Linnet Ashwood was pure and cute, and the loose white shirt on her created that popular, innocently alluring look.
'I get it now. Simon was completely mesmerized.'
As Simon Sutton watched Linnet playfully twirl, his brow smoothed and his eyes curved into a smile.
No wonder he was so obsessed with his white shirts.
"You're barely wearing anything. Be careful you don't catch a cold."
Linnet just pouted, and Simon immediately scurried back to the bedroom to get her a pair of socks and some pants.
I'm not sure how long I'd been floating there, but Linnet Ashwood suddenly brought me up.
"Where's Yulia Sutton? She won't be angry that you brought me home, will she?"
Simon Sutton froze in the middle of eating his porridge.
I drifted closer, not wanting to miss the slightest change in his expression.
Unfortunately, all I saw was a flash of irritation in his eyes.
"She went out a couple of days ago. She probably went back to her family's place."
"Just make yourself at home. She won't be angry."
Linnet was smart. How could she not see that something was off?
She casually pushed the dumpling filling she didn't like into Simon Sutton's bowl.
"That's true. Yulia Sutton has always been so understanding. Why would she ever get angry?"
