Chapter 2

Yes, I awakened the bloodline of revenge and bound myself to a revenge system.

For eighteen years, I lived under the shadow of suffering.

At home, I was an unwelcome presence.

My adoptive mother, Mandy Ricardo, would scold me whenever she was in a bad mood.

My adoptive father, Troy Onions, who lost money at gambling and had nothing to drink or eat, would beat me, cursing me as a jinx, a burden, and a drain on the family's finances, wishing for my death

Even though I was obedient and well-behaved, they saw me as an unwanted nuisance, less valuable than even a dog.

The family dog got to eat meat, while I was left with cold, leftover food.

When I suffered from stomach pains so severe I could hardly breathe, begging them to take me to a doctor, I was only met with more scolding. They told me to endure and not make a fuss over trivial matters.

Outside the family, Belinda and her entourage tormented me every day, taking advantage of her family's status with reckless abandon.

Even if I was bullied a thousand or ten thousand times, no one came to my aid, nor was there any private consolation.

Each night, I curled up on the cold, hard bed, plagued by nightmares.

I felt like an orphan with nowhere to turn and no kin to rely on.

Under all this humiliation and suffering, I became mentally exhausted and deeply depressed, contemplating suicide. After enduring three hours of Mandy's and her vicious words, I, battered and broken, jumped into the icy river...

At the moment when the freezing water submerged me, and I was on the brink of suffocation, I was bound by the revenge system and became its host.

A single sentence from System touched me deeply.

"Host, the world is filled with injustice. Do not give up on yourself, nor try to end your life to escape the harm. Use your courage and strength to seek revenge instead!"

That day, I was filled with newfound strength and swam back to the shore with all my might.

When I revived, System reminded me. "You are the true heiress of the Veblen family. From now on, prepare to reclaim everything that rightfully belongs to you.

"We'll get ready to strike back at those who have wronged you and trample them underfoot."

In my time of utter helplessness and isolation, System appeared in my world like an old friend, providing me with immense mental strength.

I lay on the grass by the riverbank, gazing at the stars. "I want to return to the Veblen family..."

System immediately understood and sent my identity information to the Veblen family. The keen-eyed members of the elite family acted swiftly and arrived precisely when Belinda was bullying me.

I pretended to be unconscious and lay in the luxurious and opulent SUV.

The leather seats were incredibly comfortable.

It was a hundred, a thousand times better than the cold wooden bed at my step-parents' house.

I closed my eyes, enjoying this moment of leisure. The system alerted me that Belinda would soon be arguing with her adoptive parents, advising me to stoke the flames and sow discord between them.

Although stirring up trouble was morally questionable from my perspective, I felt no need to consider ethics when dealing with someone as venomous as Belinda.

Since binding to System, my outlook and mindset had drastically changed, transforming from cautious and timid to bold and fearless.

The once timid person who could barely breathe loudly now lay calmly in the car, eyes closed, awaiting the eruption of their conflict.

"Belinda, what's going on?

"I always thought you were a well-behaved girl, obedient and friendly. How could you bully Bessie Onions like this? You made her so badly injured...

"Once she wakes up, you need to apologize to her."

Nelly's voice was gentle and kind, but I could detect a hint of reproach in her tone.

"Mom, what are you talking about?

"She's just a worthless person. A few hits won't kill her. Why make such a big fuss about it?"

"Besides, even if she dies, we can just pay a bit of money and, problem solved.

"Her parents are so greedy for money. Giving them some cash should be enough. Losing a burden and gaining some money in return—that's a good deal."

Even with my eyes closed, I could sense Belinda's arrogance.

In her mind, my life was as worthless as weeds—it can be easily crushed underfoot. She was certain I had no one to rely on, no one to speak up for me.

So, she wasn't afraid of my death.

Even if I died, she had already arranged a way for me to become a vengeful ghost.

What a vicious heart!

Although my rage was about to explode, I maintained my composure, breathing evenly and pretending to be asleep.

But the harm this bitch had done to me—I would return it a hundredfold.

"Belinda, you've changed."

Nelly sighed. "From now on, you're not allowed to bully Bessie anymore."

Belinda's tone immediately sharpened, her voice rising in pitch. "Mom, have you lost your mind today? Why are you defending an outsider? I'm your daughter!

"Shouldn't you be more concerned about whether my hand hurts from hitting her, or if this bitch hit me back?

"You've brought her into the car, and you want me to apologize? Don't you care about me?"

Belinda was an actress at heart. After her fierce outburst, she immediately switched to a tearful, pleading tone. "Mom, do you no longer want me?

"Would you rather pick up someone as worthless as trash than have me?

"Where did I go wrong?

Abner snorted coldly. "You're wrong in being so unruly.

"The Veblen family is not your tool for bullying others..."

Hearing Abner starting to scold his adoptive daughter, I knew the timing was perfect.

"Ahem..."

I turned to the side, spat out a mouthful of blood, and opened my swollen, painful eyes. Upon seeing Belinda, I screamed in fear, curling up in a corner, trembling uncontrollably.

"Bessie, are you alright?"

My biological parents asked in unison, their voices filled with concern.

"You bitch, how dare you wake up?"

Belinda, fuming with anger, raised her hand to slap me.

"Belinda, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have picked up your pencil. Please... please don't hit me."

I deliberately acted pitifully, begging in a heart-wrenching manner.

"What..."

Belinda's slap was halted by a sharp look from Abner, and she reluctantly withdrew her hand.

Seizing the moment, I pretended to faint.

In the instant before I lost consciousness, I whispered deliberately. "Belinda, I can't fight you. Please, please spare me..."

When I woke up again, I found myself in a luxurious VIP hospital room.

The spacious, elegant room, fresh air, bright sunlight, and a peeled apple by my bed.

Everything was a treatment I had never experienced before.

I truly hoped these good days would continue.

But I knew well that although I had taken my first step into the Veblen family's world, establishing myself and removing Belinda as an obstacle would require more time and patience.

System informed me that Belinda had had a fierce argument with her adoptive parents over my situation and had stormed off in anger.

My biological parents, after Belinda's departure, discussed my background and contacted a lawyer and the head of the Veblen family's private hospital.

I smiled and asked System, "I'm sure they've started investigating Belinda's bullying of me at school."

System replied clearly, "Yes, it has been confirmed. Belinda won't escape responsibility, and your biological parents have already collected your blood sample for a paternity test. The results should be coming soon.

"However, before that, Belinda will definitely cause you more trouble."

Before System's voice even finished, the door to the hospital room was kicked open with a loud bang.
