Chapter 2
I didn’t want to hear about her and Jamie’s affair. I raised my foot to leave, but she grabbed my wrist.
Lane looked at me sarcastically. “Why can’t you listen to it anymore? You have shameful thoughts about your uncle, who raised you. Georgia, you are really cheap. Do you think if Jamie knew your thoughts, he would be disgusted and never want to see you again?”
I was deeply hurt by her words. Thinking of what Jamie said just now, he would definitely hate me if he knew. I staggered and almost fell.
“Let go.”
Lane suddenly sneered and threw the cup in my hand to the ground, then she screamed and fell to the ground and her wrist was just cut by the broken glass.
Before I thought about what tricks she was going to play, Jamie came in a hurry in pajamas.
He gently helped Lane up. “Are you okay? Your wrist is broken?”
Lane sobbed and said with a wronged look, “Don’t blame Georgia. She just couldn’t accept me for a while and pushed me in anger. I believe she didn’t mean it.”
Jamie suppressed his anger and looked at me, his face full of disappointment.
“Georgia, you are already an adult. Why are you still acting like a child? Apologize to Lane.”
A wave of grievance surged in my heart and I looked at him stubbornly. “I did nothing wrong. I won’t apologize.”
Lane said in a teasing tone, “Jamie, just think that I accidentally fell. Don’t blame Georgia. After all, she has been with you for so long. You scolded her because of me. She…”
Before she finished speaking, she was interrupted by Jamie’s cold voice. “I just adopted her for the sake of her dead parents. How can you really think of yourself as the eldest daughter of the Harding Family? Apologize to me now.”
Jamie’s angry eyes fell on me, as if he wanted to torture me to death. Seeing that I didn’t speak, he grabbed my wrist and asked me, “Do you know you are wrong?”
I looked up and stared at him closely. “I am not wrong.”
Jamie angrily threw me hard and my gravity was unstable and my stomach hit the corner of the table heavily and fell to the ground.
My stomach instantly felt like a knife was twisting and my body trembled.
I looked up at Jamie. “It hurts so much; help me.”
Jamie saw this and his eyes flashed with helplessness and heartache. “Georgia, what’s wrong with you?”
When he approached me, Lane said with a painful expression, “Jamie, my wrist hurts so much.”
Jamie stopped and quickly picked up Lane. “I’ll take you to the hospital.”
Lane smiled proudly at me in Jamie’s arms.
My lower body suddenly spasmed and a warm flow of blood flowed out.
When I was sent to the operating room, the doctor said regretfully, “The child can no longer be saved.”
Tears fell unconsciously from the corners of my eyes. It turned out that I had Jamie’s child that night.
It was just that I lost him before he came to this world.
But it was okay. If Jamie knew, he would definitely hate me even more and think that I was a shameless woman.
It was his luck that an unexpected child was gone.
After the operation, I dragged my heavy body home. The villa was quiet. Jamie really didn’t come back.
I fell asleep in bed. I didn’t know how long I slept. I was pulled up by a strong force.
I opened my eyes, it was Jamie. He was sweating, his chest kept rising and falling, as if he had just finished a marathon, his eyes were full of familiar worry.
“Why don’t you answer the phone at home? Are you deliberately making me worry and asking me to come back? Georgia, you are not young anymore. Can you stop playing such childish tricks? As long as you can recognize your identity and abide by the law, I will not ignore you even if I marry a wife.”
Chapter 3
“But you have to know that I am your elder and this is the only relationship between us, do you understand?”
I felt bitter in my heart. It turned out that he had seen my feelings for him a long time ago, so was this a warning to me?
I took the phone and sure enough, there were dozens of missed calls.
“I was just sleeping too deeply and didn’t hear it. I didn’t mean to not answer it.”
Jamie sneered, “Do you think I will believe it? Look, it’s noon now. Who would still be asleep? And since that time, we agreed that we would never not answer each other’s calls. You knew how anxious I would be if I couldn’t get through to you. Have you forgotten?”
Three years ago, my classmates and I went to the cinema to watch a movie. My phone was muted. Jamie, who was already on the plane, couldn’t get through to me, so he threatened to fly back to the city, causing a lot of trouble.
When he saw me in the cinema, he was so scared that he trembled all over. He hugged me tightly in his arms and his eyes were wet.
“Georgia, don’t not answer my calls in the future, otherwise I will go crazy.” It was also at that time that I had a crush on him like a young girl in love.
After experiencing his madness, no matter where I was, my phone was always fully charged. After all, I answered his calls in seconds, just to prevent him from worrying. “I really overslept and didn’t hear the call. It wasn’t intentional, Uncle Jamie.”
After hearing my address, he froze and the look in his eyes when he looked at me had an emotion I couldn’t see clearly.
“Why did you suddenly call me that?”
Facing his deep gaze, I tried to suppress my emotions and raised a smile. “Is there anything wrong with calling me that? You are my uncle.”
He opened his mouth and looked at me deeply, his tone full of anxiety and impatience.
“Whatever you want. For you, I left Lane alone at the venue. You should pack up now and come with me and apologize to her by the way. I don’t know what will happen if I leave you alone at home.”
I wanted to refuse, but I shut up when I saw his eyes.
I was just a burden to him. He was just my father’s sworn brother, but he had raised me for ten years in vain. Maybe I shouldn’t embarrass him anymore.
“Okay.”
Seeing that I agreed, he breathed a sigh of relief, but was stunned when he saw me go out and get in the car.
“Why are you so pale?”
I was surprised that he finally noticed my abnormality. Just when I was about to explain, he spoke again in an impatient tone. “Did you deliberately make yourself look like this just to attract my attention? Georgia, you…”
Suddenly, my throat began to feel bitter. No matter how much I explained, it would only make me ridiculous.
“I just forgot to put on lipstick, sorry.”
He looked at me inquiringly and then his cell phone suddenly rang. He glanced at the phone and his whole breath became much gentler.
“Jamie, why haven’t you come back yet? I’m so scared alone. Just now, a few people wanted to force me to drink, I…”
Jamie’s breath suddenly became cold and he nervously comforted her, then suddenly started the car.
“Wait for me, I’ll be there soon.”
The car’s speed reached 180 miles per hour. Before I could fasten my seat belt, my head hit the car in front of me. I groaned in pain. Just when I wanted him to slow down, he frowned and looked at me.
“Did you hear Lane was in danger and you deliberately bumped into her to get my attention? Lane is very scared now. I need to rush over as soon as possible. Can you please stop playing tricks?”
Chapter 4
His disgusted eyes once again made my heart bleed. The words I wanted to say were stuck in my throat. My eyes were blurry. I pretended to be calm and pressed my back against the seat. I closed my eyes and trembled all over. I bit my lips tightly. Even if I smelled blood, I insisted on not making a sound.
It seemed that he really forgot the agreement with me.
At that time, I had just been picked up not long before. Because of him, I encountered his kidnapping of my family. I was trapped in the car, which was speeding fast and was finally forced to stop. However, the car also overturned. I was thrown to the head, legs and arms. When I saw Jamie, I cried out of breath.
He protected me for a week before I recovered from the shock, but he also suffered from stress disorder. As long as the speed exceeded 60 miles per hour, I would feel dizzy and nauseous and tremble all over.
But from then on, as long as I was in the car, Jamie’s speed never exceeded 50 miles per hour.
The car finally stopped. I staggered out of the car in a panic. My face was as pale as a ghost. As soon as I landed, I lay down beside the flower bed and began to vomit. I almost vomited bile and then I felt better.
But when I looked up, there was no trace of Jamie. He probably forgot that I was still there.
As soon as I walked into the banquet hall, I saw Jamie carefully coaxing Lane. His attitude was rare and patient. My heart seemed to be torn apart. I didn’t want to watch it anymore. I turned around and wanted to find a quiet corner to stay, but was stopped by Jamie.
“Georgia, come here and apologize. Because you tricked me back to see you, Lane was frightened. You apologize.”
I smiled bitterly in my heart. Forget it. Before leaving, I should be more compliant with his wishes. “I’m sorry, I won’t do it again.”
Jamie looked at me in a daze. It was a bit incredible, because although I was good-tempered and sensible, I was also proud of myself in the years of being spoiled by him. I never said sorry easily, but this time I said it obediently.
At this time, Lane, in his arms, smiled and said, “Since Georgia wants to apologize, I was forced to drink three glasses of wine because of you just now. As long as you drink three glasses of wine now, I will forgive you.”
But I just had a miscarriage and the doctor said I couldn’t drink. I refused, “Change to something else, I can’t drink.”
Lane’s eyes were instantly wet and tears fell and her tone was very aggrieved. “It turns out that your apology is just talk. I know I am just a little secretary and don’t deserve your apology. You never look down on me. Then I’m leaving…”
She was about to leave in a coquettish manner, but Jamie held her in his arms. “Be good, who said you don’t deserve it? I’ll let her drink to apologize to you.”
Then he waved his hand and someone immediately brought three glasses of strong liquor.
Jamie looked at me with an unyielding gaze. “Drink it and apologize, otherwise it will be more than three cups.”
I covered my stomach and opened my mouth to explain, “I really feel unwell and can’t drink.”
“Enough!” Jamie looked at me angrily. “Just now at home, you said you felt unwell and deliberately painted your face so pale. Now you are still lying. Georgia, you disappoint me so much. You drink it yourself, or I do it. It’s your choice.”
Looking at the smugness in Lane’s eyes, I smiled bitterly, picked up the three cups of wine on the tray and drank them all. The bitter and spicy liquor just entered my throat and it burned me all over. My stomach felt like it was burned by a raging fire and I wished I could die immediately.
I tried to force a smile. “Can I leave now?”
“I was just joking. If you don’t want to drink, you can just say it directly. It’s like I’m forcing you.”
