Chapter 4

Then Nicholas and Damon pushed away the reporters, held me tightly and walked me out of the building.

As soon as we reached the hotel entrance, many security guards came over. Abigail followed them, looking worried.

“Lily, I’m sorry. It’s my fault for not managing everything well. Someone changed the video.”

“I was busy calling the guards just now, so I came late. Are you alright? How could they do something like that to you … ”

She tried to check my wounds, but I screamed the moment she touched me.

Nicholas was afraid I might hurt Abigail, so he quickly told the medical team to give me a sedative.

The medicine worked fast. I lost consciousness and fell into his arms. When I opened my eyes again, I was lying in a hospital room.

I heard a conversation outside the door.

“Dad, everything you planned today went well. Mom’s reputation is completely destroyed. She’ll never be able to fight Aunt Abigail for the company again!”

“But should we still pay those reporters to spread the video they filmed today?”

Nicholas paused, but then answered firmly, “Yes, send it out.”

“Her name is already ruined. One more blow won’t change anything. Later, we can treat her better to make up for it.”

Hearing this, I felt like I had been hit by lightning. Now, I understood why Nicholas had asked me to bring the medicine. It was all part of his plan.

Nicholas wanted to destroy the name of the original heir and make things easier for his lover.

Tears came out of my eyes just as Nicholas walked in. He gently wiped my tears.

“Lily, it’s over now. Don’t worry. I’ve already told someone to destroy today’s video. It won’t be shared.”

Damon’s eyes were red as he held me and cried.

“Mom … Mom, I’ll drink milk every day from now on. I’ll protect you. No one will hurt you again!”

Looking at the way both of them acted in front of me, I gave a bitter smile. But the truth was that the ones who hurt me and made me feel this pain … were you two.

I closed my eyes in sadness. They thought I was tired and unwell, so they stayed beside me, one on each side. Soon, the medicine took effect again and I fell asleep.

When I opened my eyes again, it was already late at night. But Nicholas and Damon were no longer with me. I quietly got out of bed and opened the door. Across the hall, I saw Abigail leaning against Nicholas in another hospital room.

“Nicholas, stay with me a little longer tonight. I’m so happy. I can’t believe everyone finally sees me as the general manager,” Abigail said.

Nicholas smiled and pinched her nose gently.

“Abigail, I told you. As long as you’re happy, I’ll do anything for you.”

“But being happy for just a while isn’t enough,” she said.

“My son and I want to stay with you all night.”

Then, Nicholas pressed her down on the bed and they kissed for a long time before stopping.

Abigail covered her face, blushing. “Nicholas, you’re so bad. Damon is still here!”

“What’s the problem? He’s seen it before.”

Damon agreed as he said, “That’s right! It’s normal for Mom and Dad to be close!”

After that, he turned on his phone and took a picture. The three of them smiled like a happy family.

I stood in the shadows and tears kept falling from my eyes.

Even if I had already known the truth, it still broke my heart to hear my own child, the baby I carried for ten months, call someone else ‘Mom’.

Chapter 5

I walked back to the ward in a daze, trying hard not to listen to the sounds coming from outside the door, but no matter how much I tried to block them out, the noises stayed in my ears like a curse, completely breaking my heart.

The next morning, Nicholas and his son came into the ward on time and kissed my cheek like they always did.

“Lily, good morning!”

“Mom, good morning!”

The father and son acted so well that there was nothing wrong on the surface. And I didn’t feel like pointing it out anymore.

Nicholas gently squeezed the toothpaste for me and said, “Lily, wash up first. Damon and I will go downstairs to buy you some breakfast.”

The father and son had just left when the door to the ward opened. Abigail stood by the bed, looking down at me with a mocking look in her eyes.

“Lily, even though you changed your last name, you are still nothing but a failure!”

“When I had kidney failure and needed a transplant, there were a few possible donors. But Damon said he was worried I might reject them, so he wanted to find the best match for me.”

“In the end, your kidney worked perfectly for me!”

“So, Lily, how does it feel to be tricked by your own son?”

As she spoke, Abigail lifted the hem of her dress and showed a strip of smooth, pink skin with no scars.

“Do you know why you have such a large scar on your belly after the same surgery?”

“It’s because all the best cosmetic surgery doctors in the city worked on me that day. Nicholas said I couldn’t have any scars on my body.”

“But your surgeon was the vet from the nearby pig farm to practice, which is why your wound looks so ugly!”

Her words echoed in my ears clearly. So the scar that made me feel ashamed was also caused by Nicholas.

Seeing me in shock, Abigail leaned closer and whispered in my ear, “By the way, your uterus was healthy. Nicholas had it removed just to make me happy!”

“And now, I’m pregnant. In the future, you won’t just be my organ donor, but my child’s as well. We can take anything we want from you!”

Her cruel words made me lose control. I stood up and tried to slap her. But before I touched her, Abigail quickly covered her face and cried loudly.

“Lily, please don’t hit me. I only came to help manage the company for you for a while!”

Just then, little Damon behind me pushed me hard and I fell to the ground. My forehead hit the corner of the bed and started bleeding heavily. Nicholas came in right after and stepped on the back of my hand while hugging Abigail tightly.

She cried, showing such a sad face and said, “Nicholas, I only came to visit my sister at the hospital, but she said I stole her company. She even asked people to hurt me and wanted me to become as miserable as her … ”

Nicholas’s face filled with rage.

“Lily, are you out of your mind? Abigail came to comfort you kindly and you tried to drag her down to your level. You’re disgusting!”

Damon also pointed his finger at me and shouted, “Bad woman! Bad woman! I don’t want you to be my mother! I want Aunt Abigail to be my mom!”

The father and son judged me as if I were guilty without letting me speak. But it didn’t matter. I had already given up. I slowly got up from the floor.

They no longer looked at me and left the ward, holding hands with Abigail.

As for me, I went home alone after finishing the hospital discharge. With four hours left, I threw all the family pictures on the wall into the fire. When it was already three hours left, I sent the new video from my phone to the lawyer.

With two hours left, I packed my luggage and placed the divorce papers I had prepared long ago on the table. With one hour left, I held the plane ticket in my hand and waited for the flight in the waiting area.

At the same time, Nicholas and Damon took Abigail to the island where we had our honeymoon, just to make her happy. It was not until a week later that Nicholas got out of Abigail's bed and remembered that today was our sixth wedding anniversary.

So, he made an appointment with a photographer and a makeup artist as usual and brought Damon back home.

But when the father and son opened the door, one holding flowers and the other carrying a cake, they found the house completely quiet.

"Shh! I think Mom is still sleeping. Let’s be quiet."

Damon tiptoed to the second floor and opened the bedroom door, only to find that no one was there. Nicholas was also confused and a feeling of worry grew in his heart. He quickly took out his phone and was about to make a call when the doctor rushed in looking frightened.

"Mr. Atwood, something bad happened. Your wife sent a lawyer’s letter to the hospital. She found out our secret!"
