Chapter 2
After this matter was settled, I slipped away in time and didn't give Kane any chance to get angry at all.
After returning home, I sat on the sofa and thought about my previous life.
Kane's father, Calvin Foster, was a very arrogant and self-centered individual. He spent all his money to show off. He believed that he was a natural leader unsuited for a regular job.
So before the divorce, I was the one who supported Kane and Calvin.
After I took a lot of effort to take Kane away, I found that he had gone bad.
He was eight years old at the time.
I love my son. So I convinced myself that with enough effort, I could guide him in the right direction.
I pushed myself to the limit, worked tirelessly to provide for him, and strived to give him the best.
Unexpectedly, Kane started lying in elementary school. He claimed to be wealthy and spent my hard-earned money to impress his classmates, even forbidding me, a cleaner, from approaching his school.
When his lies were exposed, he didn't repent but instead scolded me for being incompetent, saying that I should not have given birth to him and that I had brought him so much humiliation.
That time, I felt that Kane's face overlapped with his father's.
I made great efforts to control his spending, provided daily moral guidance, and depleted my savings to transfer him to another school.
He was quiet for a long time, and I thought he had gotten better, but he actually gave me a big shot.
He stole all my money, bought a bus ticket and went to his father, but was kicked out.
Fearing his father's negative influence on him, I refrained from scolding him, taking time off work to spend entertain him.
The day when I ran out of money, I sent him back to school. He ran to the police station and accused me of being a human trafficker, saying that he was a child from a wealthy family and that I sent my child to a wealthy family to enjoy a good life.
The policeman called me to the police station. After reading a series of my information, he advised me to have Kane evaluated at a mental hospital, suspecting something was amiss with his mental state.
I could only smile bitterly, and Kane was so angry that he attacked the police on the spot.
Later, Kane always behaved badly.
He used to be in the top three in his class, but was expelled from school and didn't even have the chance to go to college.
I tried my best to persuade him to self-study, but he ran away from home and got involved in a pyramid scheme organization.
After trying my best to rescue him from the scheme, he admitted his mistakes and apologized sincerely.
He also started to study hard, eventually gaining admission to a prestigious university, and becoming a role model for many.
When I thought my efforts weren't in vain and my son was on the right track, he was arrested for telecom fraud. He swindled prospective students out of their tuition fees, leading to the tragic suicides of three young individuals.
And I was beaten to death by the victims' families.
The pain of that experience still haunted me.
I sat on the sofa, covering my face and crying.
After crying, I resigned from my two jobs and received the salaries.
I walked to the closet and prepared to dress myself up.
But my clothes were worn, tattered, and shabby.
I had only one presentable outfit.
Kane preferred luxury brands and expensive imports, resorting to deception when I refused to give him money. I worried he would go astray, so I could only satisfy his wishes while offering advice.
Thinking about it now, I was really a joke.
I decided to treat myself, indulging in shopping, enjoying compliments, and feeling rejuvenated.
I felt great.
I dined at an upscale restaurant, savoring every bite without concern for the cost.
Unable to finish, I invited a cleaner from the mall to join me. She declined, so I dragged her over.
She asked, "Is this a celebration of your divorce? You seem in high spirits."
I simply replied, "Something like that."
The same life lasted for half a month.
Maybe because I was in a good mood, I quit my remaining job and planned to start anew in a different city.
Chapter 3
When I was planning, Kane called me and asked me to pay.
I called the teacher to ask about the recent situation of Kane, and he slowly and hesitantly spoke up.
It turned out that Kane was isolated by his classmates due to his stealing of the class funds.
The school wasn't big enough to cover his stealing up, so many students started discussing this matter in class group chat.
As more people joined the discussion, more people knew about Kane's attempted theft.
Even someone told the story about Kane bullying and extorting his classmates in junior high school.
Kane became famous throughout the school for his scandal.
And probably in order to clear his reputation, he invited the entire class to a dinner at a five-star hotel.
He had no money, so out of habit, he asked me to pay.
Refusing to indulge his behavior, l blacklist him directly.
Two hours later, my phone rang again. It was an unfamiliar number.
I answered the phone and heard Kane's angry roar, "Why don't you come to pay?"
I rolled my eyes, admired my new manicure, and said, "I have no money."
"What should I do? So many of my classmates are watching me. How can you let me lose face like this?" he retorted.
I sneered, "As if you care about losing face."
"Damn it!" Kane cursed angrily. I could even hear his clear and nervous breathing.
After a brief silence, he softened, "Mom, I know I was wrong. It's all my fault. I shouldn't have gotten angry with you before."
"Do you know what they're saying about me in class? They laugh at me and call me a thief. They don't want to play with me. I've been isolated by the whole class."
"Mom, please help me just this once. I beg you. I want to repair my relationships with my classmates, create a positive study environment, excel in college, make you proud, and provide you with a comfortable retirement."
Kane was painting grandiose dreams, just like his father.
However, I was not interested.
I responded coldly, "I have no money. Sort it out yourself."
"Mom, you can't do that to me!"
I hung up and turned off my phone directly.
My attention was now focused on my fresh manicure, a stunning deep red.
In my over forty years of life, only during this period had I truly felt what real life was.
At night, I lay in bed and reviewed my previous life.
Unexpectedly, I recalled my childhood dream of becoming a designer to craft a beautiful and cozy home for myself.
Thinking of this, I immediately sat up from the bed, turned on the computer I bought for Kane, and searched for "self-taught drawing", "design courses", "design enrollment", etc.
Suddenly, a knock interrupted my thoughts. It was the policeman, Kane, and a stranger.
It turned out that Kane, attempting to save face, was caught trying to skip out on the bill after treating his classmates, but he was caught red-handed.
After hearing about the situation from the police, the hotel manager apologized and offered a discount before presenting me with the bill.
I turned my head and saw Kane lounging on the sofa, holding a bottle of Coke in his hand and swinging his legs.
He shouted at me, "Someone is even coming to our house to collect the debt. Aren't you ashamed? Pay the bill quickly and make me a meal. I am hungry."
The police and hotel manager exchanged glances, their eyes revealing pity for me.
Kane was probably angry that I didn't pay for him, and now he sought to embarrass me by creating a scene.
He taunted, "What are you looking at? You're a lackey to capitalists."
"And you, what are you staring at? Watch out, or I'll gouge your eyes out! The food is so bad, and you still have the nerve to ask for so much money, ugh!"
After downing a bottle of Coke, he flung it, hitting the policeman on the head.
As the officer winced in pain, Kane smirked, "Right on target. I'm really awesome."
The police and the hotel manager wore grim expressions. They somewhat couldn't control their anger and wanted to lose their temper.
Meanwhile, Kane continued to make trouble.
In his memory, I would always clean up his mess. The bigger the trouble he caused, the more miserable I would be.
I apologized to the police and the hotel manager with a smile and picked up the stick to hit Kane.
