My Alpha Chose My Pregnant Sister, So I Chose the Lycan King Summary
Chapter 1 of My Alpha Chose My Pregnant Sister, So I Chose the Lycan King
The crinkled paper in my hand finally gave a name to the nightmare: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. Months of insomnia, clumps of hair clogging the shower drain, and bone-deep exhaustion finally made sense. The doctor had spoken in a hushed, sympathetic tone, warning me of the difficult road ahead. I folded the diagnosis sheet, ready to find my mate, when the heavy oak doors of the obstetrics clinic swung open.
Damian Blackwood walked out. My mate. The Alpha of our pack.
And clinging to his arm was Vivian Ashford. My little sister.
They wore matching, radiant smiles. It was the exact expression I used to wear, back when I carried our pup. Before my body failed me. Before the miscarriage tore my soul apart just one month ago. The memory of the blood, the sterile hospital room, and the crushing emptiness hit me with the force of a freight train.
Damian’s laughter died the second his gaze locked onto mine. His broad shoulders stiffened beneath his tailored charcoal suit. Vivian froze mid-step, the color draining from her face as her hand dropped from his bicep.
I shoved the medical report deep into my leather purse, snapping the brass clasp shut. The metallic click echoed in the quiet hallway, sharp and loud.
"What are you doing here?" Damian demanded. His tone held no warmth, only sharp irritation. He stood tall, blocking the doorway of the clinic as if guarding a secret.
Vivian peeked out from behind his arm, her fingers twisting into the fabric of his sleeve. "Yes, sister, why are you here?"
I stared at the two of them. The obstetrics wing. The glowing smiles. The sudden, defensive posture. My throat tightened, making it hard to swallow the rising lump of dread.
"I had an appointment," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "Why are you at the maternity ward?"
"That is none of your business," Damian said, crossing his arms over his chest.
"None of my business?" I stepped closer, my heart pounding against my ribs. "You are my mate. She is my sister. And you are walking out of an obstetrics clinic together. Tell me what is going on."
"Are you tracking us?" Damian took another step forward, shielding Vivian completely from my view. His jaw clenched, a muscle ticking near his ear. "Fine. You want to know? So what if I'm with your sister?"
The words struck me like a physical blow. I took a step back, my shoes scraping against the linoleum.
"A Luna who cannot bear a pup is not tolerated by the pack," Damian continued, his voice loud and unapologetic in the sterile corridor. "You should understand this better than anyone. The elders have been whispering for weeks. Your body is weak, Selena. It always has been. Since Vivian is pregnant, you need to step aside. Surrender the Luna position."
My knees threatened to buckle. The joint pain that had plagued me for weeks flared up, shooting hot spikes through my legs.
"What did you just say?" I choked out, gripping the strap of my purse until my knuckles turned white. "We’ve been in love for years, Damian. We bonded under the watchful eyes of the Moon Goddess. You promised me forever."
"Forever requires an heir," he snapped, his eyes cold and distant. "Something you failed to provide. Our pack needs strength, not a fragile liability."
Tears spilled down Vivian’s cheeks. She stepped out from behind him, burying her face against Damian’s chest. Her shoulders shook violently, a picture of perfect, fragile distress.
"I was wrong, sister," she sobbed, her voice muffled against his shirt. "I never meant for this to happen. But I know... ever since we were little, you always gave me anything I liked. You never said no to me. You always spoiled me. This time is the same, right? You'll give him to me?"
My wolf howled in agony, clawing frantically at the inside of my ribs. The physical pain of my illness surged, blending with the sharp sting of betrayal. She wasn't just asking for a dress or a piece of jewelry. She was asking for my mate. My life.
"I loved you!" I shouted, ignoring the burning ache in my joints. "I treated you as my most precious family. I gave up my own dreams to make sure you had everything you ever wanted. How could you stab me in the back?"
I reached out, wanting to grab Vivian's arm, wanting to force her to look me in the eye.
Before my fingers could even brush her sleeve, Damian shoved my shoulder hard.
I stumbled backward, barely catching my balance against the wall.
"What is wrong with you?" he snarled, his chest heaving. "Keep your hands off her. You’re terrifying her."
Vivian grabbed his lapels, weeping louder. "It’s my fault! I shouldn't be with you, Damian. Let me abort the pup. We’ll never see each other again. Just let me die! I don't want to ruin my sister's life!"
Damian wrapped his arms tightly around her waist, pulling her close. He glared at me, his eyes flashing gold, the wolf beneath the surface rising to protect his new mate.
"Apologize to her. Now. Or
