All Her Schemes Bounce Back: The Cheating Scandal Reversal
Sharon Deleon, the campus belle, has secretly stuffed a folded piece of paper into my pencil case five minutes before the start of the postgraduate admission exam.
A series of comments streak across my vision.
"The paper is filled with answers to the exam questions! Sharon has already lodged a report to the teachers. The school proctor will be here soon. Once that paper is found in Cassandra's pencil case, her admission recommendation will be terminated immediately!"
"Hmph! This is all that nerd's fault for standing in Sharon's way to success! The proctor is Sharon's uncle, after all! Cassandra's doomed today!"
The next thing I know, the proctor strides into the classroom angrily. He makes a beeline to my seat right away.
"Someone has reported you for cheating. Dump out the s in your pencil case right now!"
I just do what I'm told with a blank look. There are only a few pens in sight. The folded piece of paper, however, isn't there.
Sharon widens her eyes in shock. "How could this be? But I'm very sure that I—"
Before she can finish speaking, a folded piece of paper containing the answers falls out of her pocket.
Everyone doesn't know that I'm capable of reflecting misfortune by nature. Whoever sabotages me will get a dose of their own medicine instead.
The proctor, Daniel Shaffer, bent down and picked up the slip of paper. The moment he saw what was written on it, his expression darkened.
"What is this?" Daniel asked, his voice stern.
Sharon Deleon had originally called him over to get me in trouble, but little did she expect the note to wind up on her person instead.
Since Daniel couldn't exactly cover for her in front of everyone, he glared at Sharon in frustration.
Sharon freaked out on the spot. She shot to her feet, her chair screeching loudly against the floor.
"Unc… Mr. Shaffer, that's not mine! It was clearly in her…"
Sharon pointed at me, her eyes reddening with panic. "It was in Cassandra Giles' pencil case! I saw her stuff the note in there just now! How did it end up in my pocket?"
The comments started flooding in again. "What the heck? What's going on? I'm pretty sure I saw Sharon stuff it into Cassandra's pencil case!"
"Does that nerd know how to do magic or something? How are her hands that fast?"
"That's so sneaky! Cassandra must've slipped it back into Sharon's pocket during all the chaos!"
"Are you blind? Cassandra didn't even move her hands."
Sharon glared daggers at me.
The usual fake kindness in her eyes had vanished, replaced by bare hatred and resentment.
The next second, she seemed to have an idea and said, "Cassandra, I thought we were friends. Why would you frame me like this?"
With tears streaming down her face, she sobbed out, "You borrowed my jacket earlier, remember? Did you slip it in my pocket then?"
Well played. She managed to turn it on me instantly!
Daniel gave me a stern look. "Did you plant this on her?"
I let out a cold laugh. "Sir, there are surveillance cameras in the exam hall. And I'm pretty sure the handwriting on that paper is not something I could fake. Why don't we compare the handwriting right now?"
Sharon went deathly pale. She still wanted to defend herself, but Daniel shot her a fierce glare, silently telling her to shut up.
By now, the students around us had started whispering, and quite a few were covering their mouths, snickering.
"Sharon, come with me to the office."
Gritting his teeth, Daniel had no choice but to take his own niece away in front of everyone.
Sharon shook with anger. She stomped her foot, sobbing dramatically as she followed Daniel out.
Still, just as I expected, Sharon didn't receive any real punishment.
Daniel dealt with the matter cleverly. In the end, it was labeled as merely "bringing irrelevant items into the exam hall".
As such, Sharon only got a verbal warning. Nothing went on her record.
Still, she ended up missing that exam, whereas I calmly finished every single question.
