Chapter 2

After a period of silence, Jack and Toby returned to the police station.

My body was put on the dissection table. Jack quickly adjusted the condition and spent a day with his assistant to piece my body together.

Seeing the headless corpse, Toby couldn't help but gasp.

That was also the first time I clearly saw my look after death. Looking at my body covered with cuts and broken into pieces, my soul couldn't stop shaking, as if I was back in that nightmare scene.

After the autopsy, Jack stood in front of the body, with regret and pity in his eyes. "The deceased is a female aged between 20 and 25, about 65 inches tall, and had been dead for more than a week."

As Jack was speaking, he suddenly thought about something and paused.

I instantly perked up. All the details of the deceased matched mine.

Would Jack recognize it?

He paused long enough to attract Toby's attention, "What's wrong? Did you find anything?"

After a long while, Jack shook his head and said, "Nothing."

I felt lost for a moment.

Actually, I didn't spend much time with Jack.

I had been found by the Scotts when I had been twelve years old. When I had been fifteen, our parents had taken Anna and me out to sea. Our parents had both drowned trying to save Anna, but she had said that I had pushed her into the sea.

She and Jack grew up together, so naturally he trusted her more.

After our parents died, I also lost Jack.

I often wondered if I should not have come back to the family to disturb them.

Maybe in the way, our parents and I would not die.

I came back to my senses and heard Jack say to Toby, "The deceased had 107 knife wounds all over her body. Judging from the marks of the knife wounds turning outward, 106 of them were inflicted on her before she died. The murderer must have tortured her to death and then killed her with the last stab in order to vent his anger. To be able to accurately grasp this scale, the murderer must have had some medical knowledge.

"In addition, the deceased had multiple electric shock injuries and club injuries on her body. She was also cut into 107 pieces after her death. The method was so brutal that it must have been a revenge killing."

I looked at Jack with admiration.

His analysis was completely correct.

In order to make me feel it all clearly, the murderer had splashed water on me to wake me up every time I had fainted from the pain.

It had lasted all day and night. That day had seemed as long as a century to me. I had wanted to die but couldn't, and there had been no chance of me surviving.

When the last stab had hit me, I had even felt fortunate that the torture had been finally over!

"Damn, such a beast!"

After hearing Jack's conclusion, Toby was so angry that he kicked over the chair.

After scolding, Toby suddenly thought about something and said, "Wait, why did the murderer stab her 107 times and cut her into 107 pieces? Does this number have any special meaning?"

Jack frowned tiredly and said, "It's up to you to investigate.

"The most important thing now is to identify the deceased and find the missing head. I have submitted the DNA sample to the laboratory and the result will be available in three days at the earliest."

Toby nodded and understood.

Chapter 3

As soon as Jack walked out of the autopsy room, his phone rang.

"Jack, I'm Helen's adoptive mother. Helen hasn't been home or to school for a week. I called her but no one answered. I'm very worried about her. Has she contacted you recently?"

Hearing her cautious and worried voice, my heart ached.

Besides Toby, she was the only one in the world who still cared about me.

When Jack heard her voice, his brows furrowed, and a trace of displeasure flashed in his eyes. "I told you that her affairs have nothing to do with me. Don't call me randomly again."

She wanted to say something, but Jack hung up without mercy.

It was just as quick and easy as hanging up my call for help.

Toby grabbed him and said with a serious expression, "Jack, I don't think this matter is that simple. Maybe Helen is really in trouble."

Jack sneered, "Nothing can happen to her."

After saying that, Jack waved his hand and left without looking back.

Toby stood there thinking, then turned around and went back to the office.

After leaving the police station, Jack did not go home immediately, but went to the market.

I didn't know what he was thinking about, but there was always a faint smile on the corner of his mouth.

After buying a few ribs, potatoes and some vegetables, he drove home slowly.

As soon as he entered the door, Anna threw herself into his arms with tears in her eyes and called him Jack in a choked voice.

He patted her shoulder gently, "Did you have a nightmare again? Don't be afraid. I'm here, and I won't let anyone hurt you."

After he comforted her for a long time, she finally let him go with an embarrassed look on her face.

He chuckled and pinched her face. "Wait here for a while. I will go cook for you."

After our parents passed away, she became more and more dependent on him and always had nightmares. He felt sorry for her, often took time to accompany her and even learned to cook for her.

While he was cooking, she sat by and watched with her chin in her hand.

It would be a lie to say I was not envious.

In fact, when I first had returned to the family, Jack had been very nice to me.

Until later, Anna had got into trouble frequently.

Someone had hid a needle in her skirt or thrown something at her. Her homework book had been torn up. She had been pushed down the stairs. The worst incident was when scalding hot water had been poured on her hands, causing deep burns. She still had scars on her hands now.

And every time she had got hurt, I had been the suspect.

Jack's attitude towards me gradually became cold.

Our parents had wanted Anna and I to get along peacefully, so they had taken us out to sea on our fifteenth birthday.

Who would have thought that Anna would risk her life to slander me for pushing her into the sea to drive me out of the family.

After she had fallen into the sea, our parents had both jumped in to save her. She had been eventually rescued, but they had died in the sea due to exhaustion.

From then on, Jack hated me to the core and felt more and more pity for Anna.

I had been trying to repair my relationship with Jack, but Anna always interfered.

The most recent time was on her 20th birthday, and she even had slandered me for sending her a mango cake, which had caused her to be hospitalized due to an allergic reaction.

Jack believed that I did that without even investigating.

At the dinner table, Anna pinched her fingers and said in a hypocritical manner, "Jack, Helen didn't mean it that day, so don't be angry with her. After all, she is also your sister."

Jack poked her forehead in annoyance and said, "She hurt you like this, and you still speak for her. You are too kind. That's why you are always bullied by her.

"And I has told me so many times that you are my only sister. Helen doesn't deserve to be my sister!"

As a forensic doctor, he had always had a sharp eye, and no clues could escape his eyes. However, when facing Anna and me, his calmness and professionalism were completely ineffective.

He had totally biased in favor of Anna, mistaking the ruthless and ungrateful person for a simple and harmless person.

Chapter 4

On the ninth day after my death, by checking missing persons and screening the characteristics of the deceased, the police zeroed in on the victim as one of the two women.

One was a 20-year-old female college student and the other was a housewife.

But soon the housewife went home on her own initiative. It was reported that she had quarreled with her husband and run away from home.

The female college student's parents were asked to go to the police station to identify the body.

The couple supported each other as they entered the forensic room. They were crying so hard that they couldn't stand up. However, when they saw that there was no black birthmark on the back of the body, they knelt on the ground, cried and laughed.

The case had once again reached a stalemate.

At the case analysis meeting, Toby frowned, "Jack, Helen still hasn't contacted you?"

Jack's face darkened. "Toby, I know what you mean, but don't worry. Nothing could happen to her. You might as well focus on the case. We are required to solve it within a limited time."

Toby murmured, "I don't know why, but I always have a bad feeling in my heart."

Jack didn't say anything. He closed his eyes and didn't bother to speak again.

Just as Toby announced the adjournment of the meeting, a police officer suddenly walked in with a transparent bag.

"Toby, we've found something!"

Toby immediately stood up and took the bag from the officer.

But the moment he saw what was inside, he suddenly looked at Jack with an expression more serious than ever before. "It's Helen. Something happened to her!"
