Chapter 1

When my seven-month-old baby died in the womb, my husband, Ethan Davis, went missing.

I had to handle my son's funeral alone, feeling weak and frail.

The next day, I saw Jessie Wilson, Ethan's female student's Instagram.

"I am so lucky to have met such a warm mentor in my life. The graduation trip was perfect because of you. How can I repay you?"

The photo showed the two of them gazing lovingly into each other's eyes against the backdrop of the setting sun.

I accidentally clicked "Like" and commented.

When I realized something was wrong with the fetal movement, it was raining and storming, and I couldn't catch a taxi to the hospital.

I called Ethan's phone 19 times before it finally went through.

"Dear, the baby is moving so much today. Can you come back with me to the hospital? I'm so scared of the baby..."

I curled up into a ball, hugging myself, shivering despite being covered with a blanket.

I hadn't finished speaking when a female voice interrupted me.

"Is that Ms. Cora Taylor? I accidentally got Mr. Davis's clothes dirty while doing an experiment. He's taking a shower now. I'll ask him to call you back when he comes out."

The doorbell rang, and the ambulance arrived.

I didn't have time to think about what was wrong with her words and quickly went to open the door.

Lying on the ambulance, Ethan finally called me back.

However, his tone was extremely impatient.

"Cora, can you stop being so delicate every day? Which woman would act as annoying as you when getting pregnant?

"Even if you're not feeling well, why don't you just go to the hospital yourself? I'm not a doctor!"

Even with oxygen, I still felt a sense of suffocation.

I couldn't believe that was something Ethan would say.

"Cora, I still have an experiment waiting for data, so don't bother me with trivial things!"

Before I could gather my breath to respond, a familiar female voice called him in a coquettish tone.

"Mr. Davis, could you get me my towel...?"

In a rush of hurried footsteps, Ethan hung up the phone.

I recognized his footsteps.

So, the safety of our baby was considered trivial, but providing a female student with a towel was a major issue that needed immediate attention?

Feeling heartbroken, I became increasingly anxious.

I tried my best to regulate my breathing, as I didn't want my baby to be affected by my emotions.

After the checkup, the emergency doctor ordered people to send me to the operating room immediately.

"Hurry! Call Dr. Gray. This operation can only be done by her with a chance of success!"

I didn't give up and continued to call Ethan, but he had turned off his phone.

It was ridiculous that I seemed to hear his voice after signing the surgery consent form.

"Why should the doctor cancel our appointment after we have an appointment?

"We are all patients, and the hospital is not just one obstetrician. It's totally unfair for the patient lying in the operating room to hog all the medical resources like that!"

The fetal monitoring data on the instrument was getting worse and worse.

And the familiar noise outside the door was getting louder and louder.

But Dr. Gray, who was supposed to operate on me, didn't come in for a long time.

I couldn't hold back my pain and fainted when I heard the name, Jessie Wilson.

After the anesthesia wore off, the bright lights were so dazzling that I couldn't open my eyes.

Dazed, I only saw the doctor bow deeply to a baby with purple skin.

I rubbed my eyes and struggled to see the baby's condition, but the nurse gently held me back, saying, "Ms. Taylor, I'm sorry. We tried our best, but the baby was delivered without breath. Please accept our condolences."

At that moment, something seemed to explode in my head.

Maybe they felt sorry for me, and under my persistence, they let me have a close look at my son for the last time.

He had been connected to me by blood for seven months, and he looked very much like Ethan in his facial features.

But he never opened his eyes to see this world before leaving me.

The last second's fetal movement seemed to be there, but his body was already cold.

The nurse pushed me all the way back to the delivery room, and the crying of the babies pierced my heart.

The noise before the surgery and the words of the midwife kept echoing in my ears.

Tears flowed like an opened dam.

"Is Dr. Gray the one who operated on me?"

My question made the nurse embarrassed.

"Dr. Gray was involved in the operation in the second half..."

I took out my phone and showed a photo of Ethan and Jessie.

"Were they the ones who caused trouble?"

The nurse looked at the photo and nodded vigorously.

She looked at me with pity and said, "Ms. Taylor, are they... your acquaintances?"

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, saying, "The man is my husband."

The nurse was shocked and said something.

I was burning with anger at her words.

I suppressed my grief and continued to call and message Ethan, trying to find out what had happened and why he had left me and our baby alone.

Unfortunately, he blocked me, and all my emotional outbursts went unanswered.

He had killed his son and disappeared without a care.

After being discharged from the hospital, I dealt with our son's affairs alone with my weak body.

The next day, I saw Jessie's Instagram.

"I am so lucky to have met such a warm mentor in my life. The graduation trip was perfect because of you. How can I repay you?"

The photo showed the two of them gazing lovingly into each other's eyes against the backdrop of the setting sun.

Chapter 2

After commenting on Jessie's Instagram, I knew that this marriage was doomed.

The last time I argued with Ethan over Jessie, he stayed in the dormitory for over two weeks without coming home.

In the end, I couldn't stand the cold war and went to the school to apologize and reconcile, and he reluctantly forgave me.

Over the past three years, I gradually got used to this way of interacting with him.

After Jessie became Ethan's graduate student, he was no longer content to be a kite in my hands.

Instead, I, who was always worried and anxious, became the one controlled and dominated by him.

In order to solidify our relationship, I exerted all my effort to get pregnant with this child.

However, in the end, it turned out to be a defeat with his death and my injury.

After sending the divorce agreement to Ethan, I felt more relaxed than ever before.

However, I was awakened in the middle of the night by the sound of someone opening the door.

I became instantly alert and opened the door, only to see Ethan returning, with someone on his back.

It was Jessie.

"Ms. Taylor, I accidentally sprained my foot when I just got off the plane. Mr. Davis was worried about me staying alone in a hotel, so he asked me to come and stay at his place. I hope you don't mind."

At that moment, I suddenly remembered that something was off when Jessie answered my call.

She called my home "his place"!

She called Ethan "Mr. Davis", and called me "Ms. Taylor" instead of "Mrs. Davis".

She was claiming her territory!

Seemingly afraid that I couldn't see their intimacy, Jessie hugged Ethan's arm even tighter, her face almost touching his.

However, Ethan's face showed no sign of unease.

Did he know that we were going to divorce, so he didn't even bother pretending anymore and couldn't wait to bring Jessie home and show off their love?

Ethan looked slightly guilty as he met my gaze.

He then pushed Jessie's suitcase towards me and said, "Go and get her settled in the guest room, and help her take a bath later!"

I couldn't help but laugh. Is he treating me like a maid?

"You can keep this good job for yourself!"

Ethan looked impatiently at me and said, "Are you serious?"

Ethan gave me no chance to refuse. After gently putting Jessie on the sofa, he began rummaging through the cupboards.

He was so anxious that sweat beads appeared on his forehead, unable to find anything.

"There's no medicine at home, you might as well take her to the hospital," I said, although I had looked at her feet several times and couldn't find any redness or swelling.

I just didn't want to see those two showing up to bother me.

Ethan wiped the sweat from his forehead and scowled at me, "Why didn't you say it earlier? And you made me look for it for a long time."

When Ethan, who rarely listened to me, said he was going to take Jessie to the hospital, she refused.

"Mr. Davis, it's too late at night. You insisted on taking me to the hospital last time I had my period, and it turned out to be a joke..."

I didn't know if it was intentional or if she was really embarrassed, but her face turned red as she mentioned it.

Only I stood aside, feeling cold all over.

So, he fought with me over a female student's menstrual cramps for the only doctor who could save my son's life?

After that, the two of them went on a romantic graduation trip together!

Back in the day, I would probably have rushed to the kitchen to grab a knife and kill them.

But I calmly told Ethan, "Her body is precious. You'd better take care of her."

My sincere suggestion made Ethan's hand tremble as he put down the car keys.

"Cora, what are you doing at this ungodly hour? Why are you making things difficult for a little girl?"

Making things difficult?

Apparently, after love fades away, whether I was calm and composed or crying and raging, it would only annoy him.

He probably didn't know that the "little girl" he was talking about was only six years younger than me.

But I didn't want to argue with him.

"If you think that, there's nothing I can do."

I turned away coldly and went back to my room.

Compared to the pain of my son's death in the womb and the despair of hope being crushed by Ethan again and again, I wouldn't care even if he had sex with Jessie in front of me.

But Ethan was angered by my attitude.

Chapter 3

"What do you mean? Is this how you treat guests? I told you to make up her bed. She'll definitely have trouble bathing later..."

I moved out of the way when Ethan tried to grab my hand.

"She has nothing to do with me, what kind of guest is she? You're so fond of this girl, so shouldn't you be the one to make her bed and help her take a shower?"

Ethan's eyes were filled with anger.

Even when Jessie hopped over to cling to his arm, he almost angrily tossed her aside.

Fortunately, he reacted in time and pulled her back into his arms.

"Isn't it just that I didn't come back to accompany you to the hospital that day? You're not having a prince. Do you really think you're something special?

"The graduation trip was decided by the college, and it's not just me and Jessie going alone. Why are you still holding onto this? She's not feeling well now, and you can't even help her with a simple thing? You're being petty, and it's embarrassing. Jessie even bought a present for our baby's birth. Look what you did!"

Ethan knew he had almost knocked Jessie down, so he vented all his anger at me.

But he must have been blind, because there was no baby in my belly under the loose nightgown.

I wouldn't put up with any more nonsense from a worthless man for the sake of my son.

I was filled with anger and wanted to scream, but the wound from the operation ached with every hasty breath I took.

It wasn't worth it for a despicable man!

In my heart, he was no longer my husband.

And during the week he was missing, it seemed as if he had vanished from the earth.

I thought it was great!

So why should I bother to argue with him?

Explanation was not needed for those who loved me.

And it is useless for those who didn't love me.

Jessie pulled Ethan by the arm and coaxed him sweetly, "Mr. Davis, don't be like that. If it's because of me that you're not getting along with Ms. Taylor, I'll leave."

After saying that, she turned around to get her luggage.

If I ignored her hands that were still hanging on Ethan's arm, I would really believe it.

"Okay, I won't scold her anymore. Don't make me worry late at night."

Ethan's tone was filled with resignation and indulgence.

It was exactly the same as the way he comforted me when I was angry before.

After saying that, Ethan really got up and personally made the bed for Jessie.

While Jessie was taking a shower, I politely reminded her loudly, "If you need anything, just call your teacher."

In the corner of my eye, Ethan's action paused.

After being married to him for many years, this was the first time I had seen Ethan make the bed himself.

I took care of his daily life, even after I got pregnant, I still made the bed in the dormitory for him.

Because he would always be like a child who had lost his mother, asking me over and over again how to make the bed so neatly.

But I had taught him countless times, and he was clumsy and couldn't learn it.

Now, however, he was doing it for Jessie.

The bed in the guest room was even neater than the one I made!

While Jessie was taking a shower, I took the divorce agreement that had already been signed from the room and handed it to Ethan.

He just glanced at it and tore it up angrily, throwing it into the trash can.

"Cora, have you had enough? I just asked Jessie to stay overnight, and you're talking about divorce. Are you so incapable of tolerating others?

"What did Jessie do to deserve your constant harassment like a lunatic?

"If Jessie knew you're doing this because of her, she would be heartbroken!"

I didn't know when it started, but every time he talked to me, it was at least ten out of ten about Jessie!

Every word and sentence was defending Jessie and accusing me of being wrong.

I rolled my lips and pulled my pajamas tight.

"I've had this bad run-in with you, so should I not just divorce you?"

Ethan finally shifted his gaze to my belly.

He reached out to touch it, and I held back my nausea and didn't move away.

When he touched my flat belly, Ethan's face was full of shock and anger.

"Cora, where's the baby?"

I couldn't help but laugh.

"The baby is...

"Dead!"

My words made Lu Ethan's eyes turn red, and he became like a wolf who had lost his beloved child.

He grabbed my shoulders and shook me violently.

"Cora, you have a heart of stone! I just didn't accompany you to the hospital, and you killed our child!

"Do you know he was a seven-month-old baby? Why did you kill it? Are you worthy of our child?"

His reaction surprised me.

He didn't even care about me, so how could he possibly care about this child? And wasn't divorce exactly the result he had been hoping for?

I didn't quite understand who he was trying to fool with this fake affection.

Seeing that I still had the nerve to laugh, Ethan's grip on my arm tightened even more, his nails digging into my shoulder blade, stinging me with pain.

"Do you still remember that he was seven months old?"

My casual sarcasm finally pushed Ethan over the edge.

He raised his hand to slap me.
