Chapter 2
Unlucky things always happened together. Just at this moment, I felt a sharp pain in my lower abdomen.
I always thought of myself as a strong person, but right now I couldn't control my tears.
At this moment, I received a message from Aurora on WhatsApp.
"Darling, I'm on a business trip out of the city these days. I saw the weather forecast this morning that it was raining on your side. Remember to bring an umbrella when you go out."
It turned out that she was not in LA.
For a moment, I felt extremely helpless.
I ran into the rain, letting raindrops fall on me and chill my heart.
Never mind.
I comforted myself again and again.
Tears blurred my vision.
It was midday when I got home, and James was indeed not there.
I was so sick and dizzy. I took a shower and went to sleep.
Half asleep, the sound of the door opening completely woke me up.
I opened my eyes and realized that it was already dark outside.
James walked into the bedroom and turned on the light. Maybe I looked sickly, he frowned when he saw me. But the first thing he said was, "Why didn't you cook?"
Body management was important to him. When he was at home and not filming, I prepared three meals for him.
I still felt uncomfortable and didn't want to explain anything, so I turned over and planned to go back to sleep.
"I don't want to cook, just eat whatever you want."
James remained silent for a long time, and finally slammed the door and left.
I didn't pay any attention to him and went back to sleep.
In the early hours of the morning, an unknown caller woke me up again. When I answered, the person on the other end remained silent.
Just as I was about to hang up, I heard a woman's gasping and a man's passionate growl.
In an instant, I was wide awake.
My blood almost froze.
They were James and Fiona.
Chapter 3
James and I were college classmates.
Our relationship started in our freshman year and now it was our seventh year.
Everyone said that even the best relationships couldn't last seven years, and I didn't believe it. Now it seemed that I had overestimated myself.
James was picky and had a good development in his career in recent years. So he became more and more arrogant.
His assistants rarely lasted more than three months, except for Fiona.
Fiona was a year younger than us. She had been James's assistant for a year.
No wonder James had never mentioned changing his assistant again, so this was the reason.
I suddenly feel tired. Since James entered the entertainment industry, I had been surrounding him all day like a nanny.
I had put almost all my thoughts and efforts into him. That was why I hadn't been promoted even after three years in this company.
Back in school, I used to be praised by teachers as the most talented student they had ever seen. But now, those who used to be inferior to me were all doing better than me.
What I had been desperately chasing after all these years had turned out to be a joke.
When James came back, I was sitting in the living room waiting for him.
When he saw me, a hint of weakness flashed across his face.
"Are you feeling better?"
He put down his coat, walked over and kissed me.
I felt a little nauseous, but still looked at him calmly.
"What were you doing last night?"
James froze, then smiled, "Didn't you not cook for me? I called some friends for some drinks."
I continued to ask, "Anything else?"
James shrugged and said, "Nothing else."
After saying that, he leaned over to hug me, but I avoided him.
"I'm going to make lunch."
Chapter 4
In the next few days, I immersed myself in work and was very fulfilling.
James took the initiative to call me which was rare.
"Chole, are you angry with me?"
I was confused and didn't understand what he was talking about.
"No."
James heard a bit stubborn, "You are angry with me. You haven't called me for three days. It was my fault that I broke my promise that rainy day, but I was really too tired. If you feel uncomfortable, then I apologize to you."
"Sorry, it's all my fault."
He said in a superior tone. After a busy day, I didn't bother to argue with him.
"Well, I know. If there's nothing else, I'll hang up first."
"Wait! I'm downstairs at your company. Come down and let's have a meal together."
I still had some work to deal with. It was already half an hour later when I finished my work and got down.
Opening the door of the passenger seat, I found that Fiona was also there.
She dressed up pure and lovely. When she saw me, she smiled sweetly.
"Chole, I'm a bit carsick. Do you mind if I sit in the front?"
James darkened his face and didn't say a word. I thought he must be angry for waiting for me for half an hour.
"It's okay. You can sit."
I opened the back door and got in.
During the meal, Fiona served James food as if there was no one else around. From time to time, she even gave me a provocative look.
I pretended not to see and just focused on eating.
I had been working all day and I was quite hungry.
The editor-in-chief said that I did a good job on this project and the boss was very satisfied. Maybe I would get a promotion and a raise. Just thinking about this, I felt relieved.
Suddenly, James dropped his fork with a loud sound.
"I'm full." He said.
After saying that, he grabbed his coat and angrily stood up, and Fiona quickly followed.
When I went out, they were already gone.
So, once again, I was left on the street.
