Chapter 2

I staggered back to my home.

While opening the door, I felt heartache while noticing the pendant on the key.

It was a moon-shaped ceramic pendant that Della and I made ourselves when we lived together last year.

Hers was in the shape of a sun.

At that time, she said to me in high spirits, "This is the only one in the world. Be careful, and don't lose it."

My heart softened at her serious look.

But now, looking at it made me feel uncomfortable.

With a cold face, I pulled the pendant off. I wanted to throw it into the trash can first, but I couldn't bear to do so and finally put it on the shoe cabinet.

The house was quiet, and I walked straight to the sofa without turning on the lights.

Everything in this house was decorated by Della and I. We spent much time on every detail.

Thinking about it now, I found it ridiculous.

As time passed, I was getting drunk and about to fall asleep when I heard a sound at the door.

"Wait for me. I'll pack it right away."

It was Della's voice.

She came in and turned on the light. After finishing being intimate with Paul, she turned around and then screamed upon seeing me on the sofa.

"You scared me! Since you're at home, why don't you turn on the lights at home?"

I felt helpless and questioned, "Do I have to report to you? I just stay at my home."

She ignored what I said and sniffed hard, asking, "Have you been drinking?"

Then she fanned with her hands and walked into the cloakroom with some disgust.

I knew she disliked the smell of alcohol, but I didn't want to live according to her preferences now.

Suddenly, a man said in an extremely proud voice from the door, "When Della and I were together, I always respected her feelings."

I gave him a cold look.

Just as I thought Della was self-aware enough to pack her luggage and move out, she raised her head.

"Paul and I are going on our honeymoon. I'll be back before the wedding. Don't miss me too much."

I felt sick while seeing her blink her eyes in a playful manner.

"You don't have to come back. Our wedding is canceled. You, get out of the house."

The moment I finished speaking, Della looked at me in confusion, "Didn't you also agree not to leave regrets? You don't want me to do it after we get married, do you?"

I looked at her without uttering a word. It wasn't the same thing after all.

"Besides, we're just making up for regrets now. We no longer have any feelings for each other. We are just fulfilling the promise we made in the past."

Della had a calm look on her face. She even came over and held me, using her usual coquettish tactics.

Paul stood at the door with a pained expression and managed to utter, "I don't expect to be together with Della forever. I only hope she will be happy."

It seemed like I was the one who broke them up.

Pushing Della away, I picked up all her packages and threw them out.

"Now go away!"

Della said in anger, "I'm doing this for your own good. Forget it! I'll give you a few days to calm down."

After saying that, she took Paul and left without hesitation.

I sat on the sofa and couldn't stop sneering. My cell phone rang again, but I had no patience to keep calm.

"You better have something urgent to say."

I thought it was just those people who called to make fun of me, so my tone wasn't friendly.

"Frank, come to the hospital quickly. Your mother is having a heart attack and is being treated."

Chapter 3

I sobered up instantly.

As I arrived at the hospital, my mother was still in the emergency room, and my father was sitting on a bench outside the room. He looked haggard at this time.

"What on earth are you and Della doing?"

Only then did I realize that Della had made such a big fuss today and the video had gone viral online.

My mom happened to watch the video before going to bed, and suddenly...

In an instant, I fell next to my dad, holding my face in pain.

My mother, who had been in a poor state before, had a heart bypass surgery recently. Not to mention that she was anxious and upset because of the news.

The doctor issued a critical illness notice.

I watched my father sign his name tremblingly, and my heart ached.

Neither my dad nor I spoke for four hours.

The doctor finally came out, and we held hope while seeing him. Yet, he just sighed.

All of a sudden, I couldn't breathe.

"We manage to save her life, but it still depends on the situation tonight."

In the ICU, my father and I held my mother's hands one after another.

I was choked with sobs. "Mom, Mom, hold on. We will find a way. We can save you. We will transfer you to another hospital."

Tears fell non-stop as I realized that I was about to lose my mother.

I gazed at my mother through a mist of tears.

She opened her mouth and said with difficulty, "Della... I have something to say."

I wiped my tears away and responded.

"Della, right? Okay, Mom, don't get excited. I'll call now. Mom, please hold on."

I stumbled out of the ward, my hand holding the phone shaking uncontrollably. During the process, I wished that Della could answer the call quickly.

If she answered the phone today, I could forgive her. She could do whatever she wanted later.

I tried several times.

Every time she hung up on me, I would call again.

The last time when I called, her phone was turned off.

My heart sank completely. I then mobilized all our mutual friends to contact her. Meanwhile, I even called her parents, Allen Gerta and Daisy Gerta.

In the end, I only received a message from Della.

[I'm busy. Let me deal with it as I get back.]

Just as I was about to call her again, several nurses dashed past me in a hurry.

I realized something was off, so I hurried to catch up.

Upon running to the ICU, I saw the doctor trying to save my mother.

I suddenly experienced dull pain.

I was praying that I would do anything as long as my mother could survive this time.

But that night, my mother finally passed away.

The shock aged my dad enormously overnight.

I couldn't even walk steadily.

Della's parents rushed over upon hearing the news.

They kept apologizing to me, but it was useless.

My mother would never come to life, and everything couldn't go back to the way it was.

I regretted meeting Della, and I hated her deeply. If it weren't for her mischief, my mother wouldn't die!

Yet, I hated myself even more for not being able to judge people well.

No one could contact Della at the end of my mother's funeral. Even when Allen and Daisy called her, the phone was turned off.

It seemed like she had disappeared from this world out of thin air.

Just as Allen and Daisy were about to call the police, Della posted a photo on Instagram.

I didn't think that she hadn't seen any phone calls for so long. She did it on purpose!

My hatred suddenly surged up in my heart.
