Chapter 6

"I thought you were going to tell your sister."

After Ivy left, Leonard looked at me seriously.

Obviously, it was the display of affection I had shown in front of Ivy that made Leonard feel confused.

"Are you also... afraid that your relatives will worry?"

Leonard suddenly stood up and rummaged through the drawers to find a box.

Put the things inside in front of me one by one.

He said, this is a mace, this is a vise, and this is industrial capsaicin.

"Elaine, if I attack you indiscriminately again next time, don't go easy on me."

He looked at me with such clear eyes, so sincere that I even felt a little guilty.

I tucked my pillow and hid the "torture box" I had prepared a little deeper.

These are not necessary. The ones I prepared are for self-defense, but the upgraded ones he prepared are for self-harm!

I finally figured out how my sister's teeth and nails were pulled out in her previous life.

"Elaine, although I don't remember what happened to me before, I know that my mother has been worried about my illness for many years. I finally met a girl who likes math as much as you do and shares the same interests with me. Can you... give me another chance and don't leave me in a hurry?"

I looked into Leonard's clear eyes, and my gaze moved up from his left temple. Hidden beneath his thick hair was a prominent and hideous old scar.

I felt a little sad, recalling how Grace had been somewhat similar to my grandmother.

They all strive to provide the best for their children.

But some people aren't born deserving of such love, like Ivy.

My grandmother knew that her personality was different from mine, that she was more sensitive and more vain, so she tried her best to prioritize meeting her needs from childhood to adulthood. However, her desires could never be satisfied, and she even blamed Grandma for not being able to give her a better upbringing and material comforts.

I could endure Ivy's suppression and bullying of me, but I could never forgive her for the cruelty she inflicted upon my grandmother, who had raised us for many years, all to coerce my submission.

Seeing my eyes well up, Leonard hurriedly asked what was wrong.

I shook my head, and plugged in my headphones.

Just now, while Ivy was in the bathroom, I slipped a recorder into her bag.

Chapter 7

At this moment, she and her boyfriend were sitting in the car on their way back, and their conversation could be heard clearly.

"You said Mr. Wells would definitely abuse your sister? Looks to me like they're as close as can be. You think the bite on her neck was from Leonard?"

"This Leonard is clearly a pervert. There is no way my sister can live a good life with him. She must be pretending."

This is Ivy's voice.

Evan chuckled, "I don't care if she's pretending. You said catching Mr. Wells abusing your sister would let us milk more money from that rich Wells woman. What now? They're clearly on the same page. I'm here paying off debts. Don't want to see me hacked up by loan sharks, do you?"

"Did I ask you to use the two million dollars to invest in such an unreliable project?" Ivy was obviously upset. "If you had done as I said and used the money to buy a house first, we could have gotten married now. Why would it end up like this?"

"That's all because of you. We agreed on five million, and you gave half to your sister. What good place can you buy with just over two million? I also want to make more money. Is there any business without risk?"

"You're blaming me now? It was your idea I fed Grandma those shrimp. If she hadn't gotten so sick, would my sister have agreed to marry Leonard? Now look at us, blowing the money and saving her life. It's costly for an old lady to recover at her age. "

"You're heartless. She's your grandmother."

Even Evan was repulsed by Ivy's cruelty.

"Me, heartless?" Ivy scoffed. "You didn't grow up in my shoes. When our parents died, it was just us sisters. Some rich family wanted to adopt one of us, but Grandma insisted we stay together.

Parents left us one house and some savings, plenty for one kid. Two's a squeeze. Grandma's stubbornness is what caused all this."

"And now you're saying this to me? Dragging a little sister and an old lady along, your parents wouldn't even let me in your house."

The recording ended with a screech of brakes. I removed my headphones, saved the recording, and handed it to the lawyer I'd already found.

The hospital had confirmed, from a blood sample taken from my ailing grandmother, that the bowl of soup Ivy had brought her was laced with shrimp—an intentional act triggering her severe allergy.

Chapter 8

Six months later, Ivy was prosecuted for attempted murder in court.

Accompanied by Leonard and Grace, I attended the trial as an observer.

My grandmother had just recovered from her illness.

Instead, I informed her that Ivy had gone abroad to study,

much like the story I concocted in my previous life after receiving the money.

From the look in my grandmother's eyes, though, it seemed she had sensed something.

She knew Ivy well.

"Ivy is too impulsive to settle down for further studies," she remarked.

Receiving a windfall, she would either squander it or make risky, short-term investments akin to gambling.

But my grandmother didn't press further, so neither did I.

In the initial trial, Ivy received a fifteen-year prison sentence. She vehemently protested, screaming in court.

"Why? Elaine, why did you do this? Why do I always lose to you? Why do my choices always lead to the worst outcomes?"

I gestured to Leonard and Grace not to worry amidst the bailiffs present.

Would Ivy dare to charge at me again, like in her past life?

As expected, overcome by rage, she attempted to rush towards me,

only to be swiftly subdued by a bailiff wielding a stun gun.

It was a stark contrast to the modest measures I had prepared for Leonard.

I said to Ivy with calm sympathy in my eyes.

"No matter what choices you make, they will never yield good results. It's because your heart is so tainted and malicious. You've never truly understood why Grandma insisted on keeping us together despite the hardships. She always believed that we, as twin sisters, were God's greatest gifts to each other. As long as we love each other, we possess the greatest wealth."

"But you've always treated me as your rival, as if my existence naturally obstructs your pursuit of happiness. Only by eliminating me, only by making my life miserable, do you find peace."

"This is all you're doing!"
