Chapter 1
My family liked my brother, Charles Moore, the most. After he impulsively killed my boyfriend, Joseph Taylor, my parents, David and Mary, made me a scapegoat for the murder.
They said, "Joseph is our only son. We are still counting on him to carry on our family name. Please help him."
Later, I was sentenced to life imprisonment.
After my sentence was commuted, I saw that they lived happily together.
Once, when I was driving, I drove the car into the river.
When I woke up again, I went back to two hours before Joseph was killed.
——
I was drowned.
After falling into the water, I locked all the car doors and watched them die painfully.
Charles, who was sitting in the passenger seat, even tried to strangle me when he saw that he couldn't open the car door.
But he died before he even touched me.
I looked at them, who struggled in pain in the car, and slowly closed my eyes.
I thought, "It is painful to be drowned, but I was relieved. I finally avenged Joseph. They all died. That's great. You all should go to hell and make amends."
Suddenly, I woke up at my desk. Scenes from my past life came to my mind.
Looking at the familiar office, my hands couldn't stop shaking.
I quickly picked up the phone next to me and saw the time. I couldn't stop crying.
It was 20:18 on June 14, 2023. Tonight, Charles' wife, Jennifer Garcia, would deceive Joseph. Charles would violently kill Joseph in their home.
At this time in my previous life, I fell asleep because I was working overtime and missed Joseph's call.
I hurriedly picked up my coat and phone while asking my colleague, Sarah, to help me ask for leave.
"Sarah, I have something urgent to do right now. Could you please ask the director for leave for me? He can deduct my salary." After saying that, I left in a hurry.
I kept calling Joseph and wondered, "Please, Joseph. Answer my phone."
Joseph's phone showed as turned off. I called more than ten times, but none of them went through.
I panicked for a moment, but I thought, "No, I have to stay calm. There must be a reason why I am given me a second chance to live."
After getting off the elevator, I hailed a car and said, "I want to go Cedar Estates. Please hurry up. I have something urgent to do. Thank you."
"Okay." The taxi driver nodded.
As I got in and felt the touch of the taxi, I tilted my head slightly and smiled to keep the tears from falling.
Looking at the number that still hadn't been connected, I clenched my hands and tried to stay calm.
After calming down a little, I closed my eyes slightly and began to make a revenge plan in my mind.
In this life, I not only wanted to save Joseph but also made those hypocritical people face retribution.
I tried to control my shaking hands and looked at the phone that was still not connected.
I wondered, "It's not too late. This time I won't let them hurt the people around me again. I will protect them well."
There was still half an hour before I arrived at Cedar Estates. I still didn't give up on making the call.
I pleaded in my mind, "Please answer my phone, Joseph. Please answer it."
Suddenly, the car braked and slammed.
Fortunately, I was wearing a seat belt. I wasn't seriously injured.
"I'm sorry. There seems to be a car accident ahead," The driver said to me apologetically.
I shook my head and said, "It's okay." But I was worried that Joseph hadn't answered the phone yet.
"Hello, Susan." When I heard Joseph's voice again, I was stunned for a few seconds, and tears couldn't stop flowing.
I haven't heard his voice for a long, long time.
"Hey, Susan. What's wrong? Did something happen?" Joseph asked me anxiously when he didn't hear me say anything.
Chapter 2
I wiped away my tears and said, "I'm okay, Joseph. Where are you now?"
I wondered, "We will have time to reminisce later. But now I must hurry and prevent this tragedy."
"I'm in a place where you will never know," Joseph said lively. He liked to joke with me in his previous life.
However, I didn't have the energy to reminisce now.
I asked anxiously, "Where?"
"I can't tell you now," Joseph said with some distress. It sounded like he was very conflicted.
I suddenly thought of the ring that I found on Joseph's dead body in my previous life. It seemed that he had prepared a surprise for me.
But I was sure that he had not yet been to Charles' house.
"Joseph, listen to me. Just stay there now. I will come to find you right away. Don't go." Before I finished speaking, Joseph hung up the phone.
I dialed him hurriedly, but his phone was turned off again.
Just when I was at a loss, I caught a glimpse of the little doll in my bag, which was given to me by my best friend, Barbara.
Barbara was my best friend. Her husband, Thomas, was Joseph's good friend. He should know Joseph's approximate location.
I stared at the call interface nervously.
Fortunately, Barbara answered the call. I breathed a sigh of relief. "Barbara, can you please ask Thomas where Joseph bought the ring? His phone is turned off. I have something urgent to talk to him about. It's very urgent."
Barbara replied, "Don't worry. I'll ask Thomas right away."
"Thomas, where does Joseph buy the ring now? Susan asked me," Barbara called Thomas.
Thomas said, "Does Susan know about this? That shouldn't be the case. I did a good job of keeping it a secret. It must be Joseph who told her."
After a minute, Barbara quickly replied, "Susan, Thomas said it seemed to be in the store over at Starlight Plaza. But he didn't know the details. Joseph should be in that custom-made store. You can go look for it over there."
"Okay, thank you. I'll treat you to dinner later." After I hung up the phone, I immediately asked the driver to change the destination to Starlight Plaza.
Starlight Plaza and Cedar Estates were not far away. It was only a ten-minute walk away.
I wondered, "If Jennifer had already called Joseph before I did, Joseph would most likely repeat the tragedy of his previous life."
The driver said, "We're here."
I paid the fare and got out of the taxi in a hurry.
Looking at the bustling crowd, I tried hard to find Joseph.
I had always remembered what Joseph was wearing on that day. He wore a white hooded sweatshirt and black pants. His image had lingered in my mind over the years.
Starlight Plaza was too big, with more than 100 jewelry stores alone. I definitely did not have enough time to search for them one by one.
Just when I didn't know what to do, Joseph called me, "Susan, I'm sorry. My phone ran out of battery just now. I didn't hear what you said last time."
I suppressed my excitement and tried to speak in a calm tone, "I said don't to go."
Then I wondered, "If Joseph is already at Charles' house, he will be in danger if I say this now."
I continued, "Nothing. I just missed you. Thomas said you are going to prepare a surprise for me. I'm at Starlight Plaza now."
Chapter 3
Joseph sighed, "You actually know about this. Why do you come here so quickly? I'm not in Starlight Plaza now."
I almost shouted, "Where are you now? We'll talk about other things later."
Joseph didn't realize the seriousness of the matter. But I was so anxious.
"Susan, don't worry. I just arrived at Charles' house."
When I heard this most despairing news, I felt like I couldn't breathe, and my legs went weak.
"Susan, what's wrong? Why don't you speak?"
My nails almost dug into my palms. I said tremblingly, "Joseph, come out quickly. Don't stay there. I'll come to you right away."
After saying that, I took off my high heels, stuffed them into my bag, and ran towards Cedar Estates like crazy.
I ran as fast as I could in my entire life. I prayed as I ran.
It took me three minutes to reach the gate of Cedar Estates. But the security guard stopped me.
Maybe because I was unkempt and barefoot, the security guard thought I was not the owner.
I opened my phone and took out the electronic contract for the house purchase, which had my and Charles' names on it.
I bought this house. My parents said that as long as I bought the house for Charles, Charles would never ask me for money again.
"Susan, Charles is our only son. Please help him. We promise not to ask you for any money in the future," Mary held my hand and spoke to me in a tone that was gentler than ever before. I believed her.
I worked overtime to earn money and almost got sick. I finally saved enough money. I was cautious at the time. I was afraid that my parents would go back on their word. So I asked them to add my name to the house contract, or I would not pay.
I promised them that as long as they kept their promise, this house would belong to Charles after he got married. But this time, I won't let them get even a shred of my possessions.
The security guard looked at the contract and then looked at my embarrassed appearance.
Although he thought I was weird, he still let me in.
I breathed a sigh of relief and walked into the elevator.
I took out my high heels and put them on. Just as the door was about to close, a familiar hand stopped the elevator door.
