Chapter 3
I was too tired to listen to her nonsense about Albert anymore. Suppressing my anger, I asked her, "Did you know that Ruby just came out of the emergency room? Did you know that the doctor issued a critical notice just now?
"The doctor said that a lot of money is still needed for the follow-up treatment. That's Ruby's life-saving money!
"Albert is almost thirty, right? He just lazes around at home all day, playing with cats and dogs. His inability to get married has nothing to do with the house. You must return the money to me immediately."
I thought she didn't know how serious Ruby's injury was, so her mind was full of Albert now.
Any mother, upon knowing that her child was bitten by a dog like that, would be extremely distressed and heartbroken.
Just like my mother, even in her sixties, she still dared to rush towards the fierce dog for the child.
But Ariana's next words were simply beyond the limit of my values.
"That's my biological brother. How can you talk like that?
"It's just a few bites. What's the big deal? Kids heal quickly. Besides, aren't your parents at the hospital? What's the use of me going there?
"Even if the worst happens, I can have another child for you.
"Maybe the second child will be a son."
After saying that, she hung up the phone.
I was so angry that I couldn't catch my breath, and my chest hurt in waves.
I knew that Ariana was born into a family that favored boys over girls. She had suffered a lot since childhood, always giving way to Albert for everything.
So ever since we got married, I did my best to spoil her, and my parents also treated her like their own daughter.
Our family spoiled her, wanting to make up for the love she missed in those years and let her know that girls were also worthy of love.
When Ruby was born, my parents were so happy that they couldn't stop smiling.
At that time, Ariana asked me carefully, "Are your parents really not angry because I gave birth to a girl?
"Do they really like girls?"
I held her in my arms and comforted her, "The celebratory ritual lasted for three days. Look how happy they are. They have no such concept of favoring boys over girls."
I thought she had already let go of such thoughts. But those consciousnesses still remained in her, influencing her imperceptibly.
Chapter 4
My parents and I stayed in the hospital for three days until Ruby was transferred to a general ward. During this period, Ariana never came once.
The doctor said that the surgery was successful, but Ruby was too young and had suffered serious injuries. She was frightened. Although she was transferred to the general ward, we should take good care of her.
He comforted us to relax, but seeing Ruby like that, who could really be at ease?
My mother stayed by Ruby's side day and night.
I didn't tell my parents what Ariana said and didn't want them to worry.
One day, while Ruby was asleep, I asked my parents to take care of her, picked up a stick, and drove to Ariana's parents' home.
I must get back my daughter's life-saving money and kill that fierce dog.
When I arrived at Ariana's parents' home, I was so angry that I knocked on the door so loudly that it shook the sky.
The door opened. It was Ariana.
She was wearing an apron. When she saw me, she showed a disgusted look. "Why are you knocking so loudly? So noisy? Peter isn't well yet. I'm cooking for it. I said I'll be back in a few days."
Peter was the dog that Albert kept.
I looked at her in disbelief. Her own daughter was almost killed by the dog, and she was going to cook for it.
After saying that, Ariana turned and went to the kitchen, muttering, "I just married you. I didn't sell myself to you. Don't I even have the freedom to go back to my parents' home?"
I was holding back my anger, and now Ariana's words made me extremely angry.
I shouted at her, "You only know Peter. Did you give birth to it?"
Hearing this, Ariana was furious. "Watch your mouth. I would like to give birth to it, but do you have the ability?"
While speaking, the fierce dog came out of the cage and barked wildly at me.
Seeing its fierce look, I thought of the pain my daughter and my mother suffered when they were bitten by it.
I was so angry that I gripped the stick in my hand so hard that it creaked. Then I aimed at its head and swung it hard.
Dogs picked on the weak and feared the strong. After being hit by me, it whined and hid behind Ariana.
"Get out of the way. I must kill this dog today."
But Ariana went crazy and pushed me away, hugging the dog. "What are you doing? Are you still human to be so fussy with a dog?"
Chapter 5
After hearing the commotion, Albert and Ariana's mother walked out of the bedroom.
Albert pointed at me fiercely and shouted, "What are you doing? Dare to touch a hair on Pete's body and I'll make sure you regret it."
Seeing that I was carrying a stick, he got scared and said he would call the police, accusing me of illegally entering the room with a dangerous weapon.
"Do you know the police number? If not, I'll call for you."
I remembered his dog didn't have a dog license, and the urban dog-raising manual clearly stipulated that large fierce dogs were not allowed to be kept.
When the police came, they could just take it away and deal with it.
I took out my mobile phone and dialed 911.
Ariana rushed up and snatched the phone. "Are you deliberately making our family a laughingstock?
"If you're angry with me, come at me. Don't make a scene in front of my family.
"It's only been a few years since our marriage. Have you started to dislike me? If you want a divorce, just say it directly. Don't vent your anger on my family."
When Ariana said this, her eyes were already red, and two lines of tears followed.
In the past, whenever we had conflicts and she cried and mentioned divorce, I would patiently coax her not to talk nonsense.
But today, facing her, I had no patience at all. "Ariana, don't worry. I've already drafted the divorce agreement on my way here."
Hearing this, Ariana was stunned for a moment, then pounced on me. "Kevin, so you already have someone outside and have been waiting to divorce me, right?"
I was almost driven crazy with anger. At this point, she still couldn't see her own problems.
Albert rushed over and pointed at me, yelling, "Kevin, I warn you. If you dare to bully my sister, be careful I'll kill you."
"Before you kill me, I'll kill this beast first."
I pushed Ariana away, raised the stick, and hit the fierce dog again.
But the dog was protected in the arms of Albert and his mother.
Ariana's mother even lay on the ground crying and wailing, "If you want to kill it, kill me first."
Ariana rushed to the kitchen, took out a kitchen knife, and ran out. "Peter is our family. If you dare to hurt it, I'll fight you to the death."
I was really furious.
I never thought that my wife, who shared the bed with me for four years, would confront me with a knife because of a dog.
I always thought that Ariana was just influenced by her family and was a little ignorant in her thinking. But essentially, she wasn't bad.
Besides, even if a woman got married, it was reasonable for her to take care of her parents' family.
I never expected that she would be so ignorant.
