Chapter 3

My husband was lying next to me while, at the same time, sharing himself with another woman.

Just thinking about it made my world collapse, and nausea twisted in my stomach.

Yesterday, I secretly obtained Emily Miller’s hair and sent it to a hospital for testing.

With some help, I might even get the results by this afternoon.

My son reached out his tiny hand to wipe away my tears, his face full of worry.

I quickly steadied myself. I had already packed my suitcase and was preparing to leave.

Just then, my phone began to ring incessantly.

My eyelids twitched as a wave of dread washed over me.

When I opened it, countless private messages from different social platforms flooded in—each one filled with malicious insults.

The scene was exactly the same as in my previous life.

My hands trembled as I clicked on the top trending headline.

#FourPeopleShareOneBowl Shameless Adults Refill Again and Again#

The post was a video: the noodle shop owner’s loud accusations, paired with surveillance footage of me and my son.

Enraged netizens immediately doxxed us, exposing my social media accounts, along with every detail about my son and me.

Even his school teacher called me.

The fallout was serious—too serious. I decided not to send him to school for the time being.

My son looked at me, bewildered, while I forced myself to stay calm.

Would I, like in my previous life, still hold crucial evidence in my hands?

I had to report this to the police.

Anyone who tried to frame me would pay the price.

But the moment I opened the door, a familiar figure barged in, his face twisted with impatience.

Without hesitation, Daniel Carter jabbed a finger at me and roared:

“Rachel Bennett, can’t you behave for once? You’re not the Bennett family’s princess anymore! Do you realize how much damage this scandal has done to my company?”

“All you do is sit around all day—eating my food, drinking my drinks, spending my money. I’m sick of it!”

I stared at Daniel in disbelief.

I never imagined he would say such words. Back then, I had willingly given up my identity as the Bennett heiress just to marry him.

I had handed over my inheritance to support his startup.

And now that he was successful, he dared to accuse me of spending his money.

At some point, Chloe Miller appeared behind him, her face full of false concern as she looked at me.

“Rachel, you really overreacted. It was just a bowl of noodles—now you’ve made a huge scene all over the city.”

Before I could respond, Emily came running up, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Daniel.

She was still young, and whatever Chloe had whispered to her at home, in her excitement she forgot to keep it hidden.

Right in front of me, she cried out, “Daddy!”

The entire room fell silent.

My son’s eyes widened in shock as he stared at Daniel in disbelief.

Emily leapt into Daniel’s arms.

“Daddy, I haven’t seen you in so long! Did you bring me a present this time?”

After saying that, she cast my son a challenging look.

My son’s face twisted in fury. He reached out to push Emily away—

But Daniel shoved him to the ground without mercy.

The moment I saw Daniel lay hands on my son, I lost all control.

I raised my hand and slapped hard—

But Chloe moved quickly, stepping between us.

The slap landed squarely across her cheek instead.

Clutching her face, Chloe’s eyes filled with tears as she sobbed.

“Rachel, I’m sorry. I can’t hide it anymore. Daniel has always loved me. Now that your reputation is ruined, there’s no point pretending.”

Chapter 4

“Daniel is useless to you. If you know what’s good for you, divorce him as soon as possible.”

I was shaking with rage. I had never seen a mistress act so self-righteously.

Daniel Carter gazed at Chloe Miller’s swollen cheek with pity.

Then his face darkened, and without warning he raised his hand and slapped me hard across the face.

“Slut! Bitch! Do you think you’re someone important? How dare you hit Chloe?”

“I’ve already had a lawyer draft the divorce papers. If you know what’s good for you, sign them immediately.”

“Otherwise, I’ll kill you.”

Daniel advanced step by step, and if I didn’t agree, I truly believed he might kill me on the spot.

I clutched my son tightly, glaring at them with cold fury.

Just as Daniel moved to strike me again, the sudden wail of sirens echoed from outside. Moments later, uniformed NYPD officers appeared at the door.

“Who called the police?”

The instant I saw them, relief washed over me.

I rushed forward with my son and cried,

“It was me! If I don’t sign the divorce papers, he said he’ll kill me.”

The matter could have been small or enormous, but in the end all of us were taken to the precinct.

On the way there, Daniel and Chloe glared at me with clenched jaws, but in front of the police they dared not act rashly.

Just then, my phone buzzed with a new message. It was from Ethan Walker, whom I had asked to run a DNA test.

When I saw the results, I closed my eyes briefly.

Just as I suspected—Daniel had cheated only a year after our marriage.

Since this was considered a domestic dispute and no real harm had been done, the police couldn’t intervene much.

“You just wait. Once you walk out of this station, I’ll make sure you pay,” Daniel snarled, his face twisted.

“The internet is already drowning you in hate. Let’s see how you manage to survive this.”

I glanced at Chloe, standing proudly at his side, and wondered how I could ever have fallen for a man like him.

Without another word, I took my son’s hand and turned to leave.

Daniel frowned at my cold, indifferent expression. He felt strangely unsettled.

In the past, my whole world had revolved around him. Even if he asked for a divorce, he expected tears, pleading, heartbreak.

But not this icy calm.

As he stepped outside, his gaze was caught by a man stepping out of a car.

Daniel knew him at once—Ethan Walker, my childhood friend.

The heir to the Walker family, though now he ran his own chain of hospitals worth billions.

Daniel’s chest tightened with inferiority and jealousy. He never imagined I still had ties with Ethan.

Watching Ethan shield me and my son as he ushered us into the car, Daniel finally snapped.

“I knew it! No wonder you’re not crying or begging. Rachel Bennett, you bitch—you’ve been cheating all along!”

“Shameless! Just try leaving with him and see what happens!”

I only cast Daniel a brief, mocking glance.

The corner of my lips curled into a smirk as Ethan stepped on the gas, leaving Daniel coughing in the dust of the exhaust.

Looking at Ethan’s calm profile as he drove, I felt an unexpected wave of peace.

“I need your help. I have evidence—proof that everything online is a lie. Chloe set me up deliberately.”

Ethan didn’t even ask what evidence I had. He agreed instantly.

“Don’t worry. I’ll make sure they pay for everything they’ve done.”
