Chapter 2

I followed Charles to a ward.

He rushed forward with an anxious look on his face and pulled the female student, Hailey Myers, into his arms.

She said she was going to die, but obediently let Charles embrace her.

The several comrades who followed behind were all surprised when they saw the girl held in Charles' arms.

Yet no one said a word more.

"Why don't you cherish yourself? Why do you seek death?"

Hailey looked at me provocatively and snuggled into his arms again. "I have an art exam next month and now I'm disfigured. I have nothing left, everything is ruined, wuwuwu~"

As if there was no one around, they would hug each other, like a pair of star-crossed doves.

In fact, she only had a fingernail-sized blister on her forehead and after being treated, it would heal without leaving any scar.

I suddenly remembered the day before the fire broke out.

Charles led the team to inspect the fire protection facilities in our mall and had a few conversations with Hailey in the corner.

As the mall manager and girlfriend of Charles, I naturally asked a few more questions.

Unexpectedly, Hailey cried and accused me of humiliating her on the spot and even Charles accused me of being suspicious and jealous.

But I was just asking normally whether there were any safety hazards.

At first, before the fire spread, Hailey volunteered to evacuate the crowd and told me that the emergency button was located in the compartment on the third floor.

I ran to the third floor only to find that the door was locked and there was nowhere to escape.

When I was almost choked to death by the thick smoke, it was Charles' teammates who heard my faint cries for help and kicked the door open in an extremely urgent moment.

I saw the crossbeam above Charles' head was about to collapse, so I tried my best to stand up and push him away.

He backed away, hit the pillar and fell unconscious. After he woke up, he kept accusing me that I should not have pushed him.

In my previous life, I was deeply in love with him and I comforted myself by saying that Charles must have been too responsible and that he was just angry with me because he could not save everyone.

Going back to the past, I came to my sense.

Charles actually resented me because he could not rescue Hailey in time.

I stared at the pair of love bird in front of me coldly and turned around to leave.

Surprisingly, Hailey stopped me and shouted. "Serena, why did you lock me out when the fire broke out?"

Hearing this, Charles instantly exploded and glared at me. "Could it be that you are holding a grudge against her just because I said a few more words to her the day before and you want to kill her on purpose!"

His heart and mind were filled with the girl. He completely forgot that when he found me, I was also locked in the fire scene by a door, so how could I have the chance to hurt anyone?

I felt completely heartbroken and did not want to continue arguing with them. "If you think I want to harm you, then call the police. I believe the police have their own judgment."

Hailey timidly hid behind him and said, "The fire has destroyed the surveillance footage. How could we possibly find evidence?"

"As long as you apologize to me, I didn't ask you to do anything excessive."

The more she spoke, the more aggrieved she felt and her tears fell like waterfall.

Charles was heartbroken that he immediately turned around and yelled at me. "Apologize to her right now! Didn't you hear me?"

Everyone was shocked by Charles' words.

Regardless of whether there was evidence or not, I was his rightful girlfriend in terms of closeness. However, he stood in opposition to me without hesitation and even asked me to admit to this unfounded charge.

He once held my hand and proudly introduced me in front of all his comrades. "Guys, let me introduce you to my girlfriend, Serena Lincoln. She's the girl I will marry in the future. Don't hesitate to greet her whenever you meet her."

At that time, the sweetness and excitement seemed to be still there, but the man in front of me had already become unrecognizable.

I sneered and said, "I still say the same thing as before. If you suspect that I want to harm her, you can call the police right now."

"You ...." Charles wanted to retort, but I immediately interrupted him by saying, "Also, we are breaking up. Please move out of my house."

Before my parents passed away, they left all their property to me. During our passionate love, considering Charles' low salary, I took the initiative to invite him to live in my family's vacant villa.

Now that we had broken up, of course, he had to get out of my house.

Charles was taken aback for a moment, then he became angry. "Can you say it again!"

I rolled my eyes lazily and repeated. "Are you deaf? Let's break up and then you get out of my house right now!"

He was annoyed for a moment, then became arrogant again. “After saying so much, isn't it still to pin me down? Saying break up on your lips, don't you still wear the necklace I gave you all the time?”

"I know you lack love, but you can't use this as a base for making unreasonable troubles. Not everyone can tolerate you all the time. You just need to apologize to her now and we'll be fine, okay?" He spoke in a condescending tone, as if giving me a helping hand.

However, I sneered as I threw the necklace to the ground and let out all the hurt and anger that had built up in my heart.

It was the gift Charles bought me with his first salary after he started working.

Before, I accidentally lost this necklace. It took me several sleepless days and nights to find it back and I was even hospitalized for exhaustion.

Everyone knew how much I valued this necklace and knew that I would never easily take it off.

But now, facing Charles' incredulous look, I stepped on it fiercely. “Can we break up now?”

Chapter 3

The panic was creeping out onto his face, but soon turned into anger. "Can you please stop threatening me with breaking up? If I really do what you said, wouldn't I be accused of being heartless and abandoning my disabled girlfriend?"

He pointed at my nose and said, "Stop being unreasonable, or I will really break up with you!"

I looked at him coldly and replied, "I can't wait to get it."

After saying that, I turned around and left, ignoring everyone's gazes.

I heard him scoff from behind. "There's nothing I need to chase after her. She will come back in less than two days. She got pregnant with my child with great difficulty. How could we really break up?"

My breath froze and a strong hatred surged in my eyes.

Because of the sudden death of my parents, Charles was always unable to accompany me for various reasons. Then I had desperately hoped to have someone else connected by blood ties, so I mentioned to him that I wanted a child of my own.

However, he always felt that I wanted to tie him down with the child, so I would carefully take measure every time we were intimate.

Until one night two months ago, he suddenly came to me drunk.

I got pregnant with his child then. When I told him, he only slightly tugged at the corner of his mouth and said in a sarcastic tone, "Finally, it's as you wish."

It was clearly his initiative, but he felt that it was a deliberate plot on my part.

I should have come to my senses at that time, but because I could not let go of our nine-year relationship, I agreed to his marriage proposal and gave them the opportunity to hurt me.

In my previous life, Hailey came into our house directly after we got married and that was when I found out about it.

It turned out that she was Charles' childhood sweetheart and neighbor. Although they were seven years apart, their relationship has always been very good.

The two families even jokingly arranged a marriage for their children, but it was dropped after Charles and I started dating.

That was why Charles blamed himself so much after she was disfigured and even took her back to our house.

In my previous life, since he felt that it was me who owed Hailey, he took my property for her to squander after my death and called it as atonement.

The pain of being burned alive struck again and my gaze turned cold as I looked ahead.

I confidently made an appointment to have an abortion.

I would not let go of anyone who hurt me.

Suddenly, I received a message from Charles on my phone. [Bring me the key I left at the entrance of the villa.]

A remote location popped up on the screen.

I clenched my phone tightly and swallowed two pills expressionlessly.

It looked like this message sent by Charles. But I knew it was Hailey's work.

Charles had always been arrogant and had a strong sense of self-esteem. Every time we have a dispute or a quarrel, I was the one who apologizes. He never took the initiative to give in.

Hailey was his childhood sweetheart. She could easily get his mobile phone.

Without hesitation, I drove directly to the destination.

Hailey's purpose could not be more obvious, but I knew that there were tigers on the mountain, but I preferred to go to the Tigris Mountain.

It was because I had already made plans. I was not that stupid to come voluntarily.

This road was getting more and more remote and the half waist high reeds were even going to submerge the car.

After driving for a while, I had to get out of the car and walk. I walked for ten minutes before I saw a broken abandoned house.

I stopped and looked ahead in silence.

However, there was suddenly a hit on the back of my head and I instantly lost consciousness.

I struggled to see the scene in front of me clearly, but someone suddenly grabbed my hair and pulled it back. "Are you pretending to be unconscious, bitch?"

Hailey glared at me, full of resentment and cruelty. "Didn't you see that Charles doesn't love you? Do you have to rely on your child to tie him up? What a despicable!"

Beside her stood three sleazy men and one of the taller men even teased and pinched her butt.

Hailey's eyes flashed with disgust, but she still smiled and punched him. "She is the one who cut off our source of income. I had hidden the ruby and stole it that day, but she insisted on doing a fire hazard inspection."

I did not know if Charles knew that the seemingly pure and innocent young girl next door was actually the core figure of a gang of thieves.

In my previous life, I accidentally learned that Hailey was hiding in the jewelry counter under the guise of a part-time job just to steal gems and I had intended to expose this matter.

However, I did not expect her to realize it in advance and urge Charles to get me killed.

She lifted my chin with a displeased expression and said, "Let me see how you can still cause trouble after you die."

I stared at her intently and sneered. "You dare to kill me? Aren't you afraid that Charles will find out about this?"

I could tell at a glance that Hailey had genuinely a heart to Charles, so I continued to provoke her. "I have been with him for so many years. If he liked you, how could he still have me? You're just a spare tire that can't be seen in the light! Disgusting!"

She slapped me in the face and retorted. "Do you think he cares about you? He didn't break up with you just because of the child. I wonder if you can still be arrogant without this piece of flesh."

She suddenly raised her legs and pressed them against my stomach, not stopping until blood appeared.

I curled up on the ground in pain and my face was pale.

The three men started pouring gasoline with a sinister smile. Hailey glanced at her phone and said, "I'm leaving first. You guys take care of it. I'll find a way to steal four million two hundred thousand dollars worth of gemstone tomorrow."

The gasoline was instantly ignited and I was surrounded by the fire.
