Chapter 1

My only son, Luke, had only wished see the snowy mountains with his father on his fifth birthday.

After much begging from Luke, my husband, Aaron Wilson, obliged him, with the only request being that our son go to the pool to retrieve the earrings of his first love.

What Aaron didn't realize was that his son had never learned to swim. Yet, determined to fulfill his's wish to spend a special birthday together, he bravely stepped into the icy pool. The freezing water claimed him in a tragic turn of events—he drowned.

By the time I arrived with the news, my son was already freezing and dying.

“Mom, I found the earrings that Aunt Serena dropped. Is Dad….”

His unfinished words lingered in the cold air as my son's hand fell limp by his side, the faint clink of his earring hitting the ground echoing in my ears.

I broke down, desperately dialing my husband's number over and over, but he never picked up. Instead, a notification flashed across my phone—the latest post from his first love: 'Thank you for lighting a fireworks display just for me.'

In that moment, the last thread of my delusional hope snapped. I made my decision—I would drag them both down into the abyss with me!

——

Forty-eight hours after my son's death, I handled the funeral alone, propping up my exhausted body.

Prior to this, I had fantasized countless times about my son's future, yet what I didn't expect was that his life would end on the eve of his fifth birthday.

Everyone at the funeral sympathized with my son's passing.

Only the child's father, Aaron, had no news, and I was unable to contact him by any means, but I saw the video of him setting off a drone fireworks show in the snowy mountains for his first love, Serena Atkinson, on all the major news headlines.

At this moment, the seven years of marriage finally collapsed.

Holding the ashes of my son, I had no interest to eat or drink in the home hall waiting for him for two whole days. But one day, finally the waiting for the wind and snow stopped, returned to him.

When he saw me, he opened his mouth with a fiery accusation.

“I asked my son to look for the earrings. Did he find them? If he did, hurry up and give them to me. Those are Serena’s favorite earrings, do you know that!”

I watched with scarlet eyes as he looked around his home for that earring as if nothing had happened.

“Aaron, do you know it's winter and how cold it is in the pool? Not to mention Luke won't….”

Aaron waved his hand impatiently.

“Don't talk about this, it's just for him to find a pair of earrings. What can it be!”

I was so angry at his words that I was dizzy, the intense throbbing of my heart was too much for me to bear, I quickly grabbed the medicine I always drank and swallowed it.

Aaron looked at me with a playful smile.

“What the hell are you doing? Is it a new tactic? Just because Serena has a heart condition, so you also want to take the same medicine as her?”

“I'm telling you, no matter how much you pretend, you're not her. Quickly let my son take out Serena's earrings, then I'll take him to apologize to Serena!”

Aaron's tone had a few shocks in it. My anger surged up, then I slapped him hard on his face, and

“Aaron, my son didn't do anything wrong and doesn't need to apologize!”

Aaron looked at me viciously, reaching out his hand to pinch my neck.

“It's all because of a single-minded calculating mom like you that Luke’s attitude became that bad. I'm warning you, bring him out quickly!”

I struggled desperately but didn't dare to let go of the box in my hand, it was my son's ashes.

Aaron's words made my heart die. The force in his hand was ruthless almost sending me to the Yellow Springs Road.

He looked at me almost suffocating and ruthlessly threw me to the ground.

I forcefully protected the box in my arms, gasping for air with the tears in my eyes involuntarily flowed out.

“Aaron, you don't deserve to be Luke’s father!”

I wanted to break down and shouted out, but Aaron looked at me with fiddling disgust in his eyes.

“It’s you who don't know how to educate a child. So I'll do it for you. What's wrong with that!”

I slowly climbed up from the ground, the crumpling of my heart made me almost faint, while Aaron never cared about me, even he never put his own son in his heart.

I gritted my teeth and said cruelly, “Let's divorce.”

Aaron sniffed and his face became even more furious, he slammed his fist on the sofa and said angrily to me, “Just because of this shit you want to divorce me, are you sick?!”

His words were like sharp blades stabbing my heart.

I covered the spot of my heart and my breath became short.

“This little shit, do you know that Luke is no longer around!”

“But it's just picking up something could he still be dead? Okay, you quickly let him out, I've already bought him tickets to Snow Mountain!”

He threw the two tickets directly towards my face, with impatience in his eyes.

“Tell him to get the hell out of here and I'll promise to accompany him to see the snowy mountains!”

I reached out, clutched those two tickets into a ball and threw them at Aaron's face.

“No need.”

I looked at Aaron with a bitter smile. By now, he was still using Luke's wish to defend his white moonlight.

I covered my chest and blushed hard, yet he never knew I had a heart condition.

Even when Luke died, he, the father, was able to be absent.

And when it came to her first love who had lost her earrings, he was able to force his son to jump into the pool in the winter to find them.

He casually took out a pair of earrings and threw them at me. The style of the earrings was exactly the same as the pair which Serena lost.

He was too lazy to put in a little bit of effort for me, so when he made up for Serena, he also picked the same ones for me by hand.

My heart was bitter. How could my son give his life for such a pair of earrings…

Once upon a time, I loved Aaron so much that I could ignore everything for him.

Now that my son was gone, what else did he have left for me to hold on to?

“Aaron, didn't you want a divorce a long time ago? Alright, now I agree.”

“Ellie, do you know what it means to give you a step down, you really think you're a person worthy of mentioning divorce to me!”

The harsh words came out of his mouth. He turned around and closed the door fiercely seemingly venting his dissatisfaction.

I held my son's urn as if I were dead and glanced at the empty house.

All the memories of my son and I for five years were here. Tears welled up in my eyes and I took a heartless step to leave the place.

Chapter 2

Seven years of marriage, I used to think Aaron was my salvation.

My grandfather was once a famous surgical saint in the first hospital of the city, and that year, Aaron's grandfather was critically ill and no one could do his surgery.

So his grandpa was transferred several times before he was finally transferred to the hospital where my grandpa was.

My grandpa exhausted his efforts and several top surgeons in the country to jointly consult and stayed up for several nights to make a set of the most appropriate surgical program.

The operation was almost perfect, but my grandpa was so exhausted that he collapsed right after the operation.

I just went to college in front of his hospital bed crying and begging him not to go, but he gripped Aaron’s grandpa’s hand and refused to let go. He told Aaron’s grandpa that in his life, the most worried about in his life was me.

I grew up with both my parents dead and grew up with my grandfather.

He bit his tongue and begged Aaron’s grandpa if he could exchange this favor for the position of his granddaughter in the Wilson Family. At that moment, I instinctively wanted to refuse, but Aaron’s grandpa straightened up and agreed.

The first acquaintance of Aaron to me tender care, would take me to my favorite snow field skiing and even because I like to travel, would choose to accompany me to travel together to get married.

Until I made a video of our traveling process and sent it online, it was a firestorm.

Serena, who was far away overseas, appeared the day after our honeymoon ended.

That night, she stood on the roof of the Wilson Family's company and called Aaron, who hated her for leaving without saying goodbye that year and hung up on her over and over again.

Until he received a video recorded by Serena on his cell phone, he couldn't sit still.

He left in a panic and drove to the company.

The next day, Aaron's scene of deep tears to save Serena hit the internet.

That was the one time I saw Serena's face, a face that resembled mine by nine points.

Ever since she appeared, Aaron would be woken up by his cell phone almost every night, and at first, he would patiently explain to me.

“Ellie, Serena has depression. I'm afraid she can't think straight.”

“If she has depression, just ask her to go to the doctor for treatment. What's the use of looking for you?”

“What did you say? Asking her for just seeing a doctor? Tch, how come I didn't realize you were so cold-blooded before? With people like you, there's nothing to explain.”

I watched him leave, lost in thought, never understanding what I had done wrong.

From that day on, he wouldn't even explain to me. Instead, he openly bringing Serena to her classmates' reunion, even going so far as to use the power of the Wilson Family to bring her up as a little-known musician.

And I seemed to be a transparent person in this marriage. No one ever knew that Aaron also had a hidden wife.

The knock on the door interrupted my flood-like memories at first and Aaron didn't even wait for me to respond, directly letting someone slam the door open.

“Ellie, you tell Luke to get the hell out of here!”

I looked at Aaron who appeared in front of me. He directly smashed a whole bottle of medicine on my face, and

“This is what you made Luke do, you actually made him change Serena's medicine into poison!”

I touched my cheeks that were smashed raw, tears were still welling up in my eyes.

“My son wouldn't do such a thing. Don't you slander him!”

“Enough, you quickly bring him out to apologize to Serena on his knees!”

The anxiety that surged up in my heart made me see this man in front of me more and more clearly.

“Who the hell is he to apologize? My son doesn't need to apologize for something he didn't do!”

Aaron threw a slap on my face. The fiery pain stimulated my nerves. I gritted my teeth and looked at Aaron, my eyes filled with endless hatred.

Serena's lips turned white as she covered her stomach and came forward, with teardrops hanging on her face. She breathlessly explained to Aaron, “Aaron, forget it. Luke is just a little kid. How would he know anything about poisons? Maybe he just looked at those medicines the same before he put them in the wrong way.”

Serena's words were like a fire that ignited the fuse in Aaron's heart.

“Serena, you're just too gentle. That's why you've been victimized so badly by this mother and son. If a child is not properly taught, he will only grow up to be as hateful as his mother!”

I looked at Aaron with indignation.

“Why should my son apologize to your lover, Aaron? You're really a wolf with a heart of gold, wantonly hurting your own son for such a bitch!”

Luke was already dead and he actually allowed Serena to trample on his son like this.

Aaron kicked me in the stomach. I was in cold sweat from the pain. My head knocked against the wall and the surge of pain almost swallowed me up.

“Sure enough, you are something born of a mother but not raised by a mother. Serena's babysitter clearly captured the video. Do you still want to deny it?!”

“Serena is a very nice person. As long as Luke kneels down and apologizes, this matter will be settled. You don't want him to be treated as an attempted murderer at a young age, right?”

Chapter 3

My eyes reddened with impatience.

“You guys want to slander my son and you're all making such ridiculous excuses?!”

Aaron took his cell phone out and clicked on the video in the dialog box filled with ambiguous messages between his and Serena.

The camera of the video shook a lot, but a very abrupt figure appeared in it.

A child whose figure and side face resembled Luke's poured the medicine from the plastic bag he was carrying directly into Serena's medicine bottle.

I could tell that the child in front of me was not Luke at all.

Luke was used to using his left hand, but the child in the video was all right-handed.

I looked at Aaron with despair. Could he not even see such an obvious problem?

“Aaron, I'm so uncomfortable. Maybe the medicine is taking effect again. What should I do?”

Aaron picked up the weak and feeble Serena as he hugged her, but his eyes were full of provocation when she looked at me.

“Since you're not willing to hand over Luke, then you'll kneel down for Serena to atone for your sins instead of him!”

Aaron had his bodyguard escort me to the car. He was coaxing Serena in a gentle voice all the way and the two of them even had no qualms about talking about how they were going to punish Luke after they found him in front of me.

My heart was like being cut open by a knife, the pain was complete.

Serena said she didn't need to go to the hospital, but Aaron did not have the slightest doubt and sent her into the villa where Luke and I used to live.

Aaron kicked me in the crook of my knee. Pain swept through my body. I stood straight and refused to kneel down.

“If you can't find Luke, you'll keep kneeling here to atone for your sins!”

Aaron called his bodyguards and told them to immediately check out the place where I live thoroughly.

“Mr. Wilson, has Young Master passed away? Why does Madam have the Young Master's urn here?”

The bodyguard's words made Aaron feel ridiculous.

“What urn? Send it to me.”

When the bodyguard delivered the urn, Aaron looked at the wooden box with Luke's picture plastered on it. He was boisterously furious and looked at me with a gaze that was itching to tear me apart.

“You're really something, Ellie. Just to keep from apologizing to the child, you made this kind of thing to trick me!”

I reached out to grab the box in his hand, but he simply opened it and scattered the contents of the wooden box on the ground in front of me, stomping on it so hard that even the wooden box holding the ashes was smashed by him.

I kept choking, but I was held in a death grip by the bodyguards and watched him destroy it all with my own eyes...

“Aaron, you heartless monster! How could Luke have a father like you!”

The feeling of heart pain grew stronger. I was almost out of breath, even my vision became blurry.

I fell heavily to the ground. My hands shivering as I cupped the powder on the ground into my hands.

Unexpectedly, however, reality threw another slap at my face!

Aaron took a bottle of medical alcohol from his bodyguard and poured it on the ground, mixing it with the ashes to form a mud.

He bent down and reached out to dig up a piece of it and pushed it hard towards my face to paste it.

I was shivering from the cold temperature, but he was even angrier as he mixed the ashes with the alcohol and smeared it on my face.

“I'm going to give you a facial myself today, do you like it? Say something! Can't you hear me asking you?”

The beaten areas of my face now met the alcohol and the pain twisted my features up.

The screams echoed in the dilapidated hallway.

Aaron spoke regardless, “If you want a divorce, I'll fulfill you! You don't even want to look at your son in the future!”

As his words fell, he reached out and wiped his hand clean on the bodyguard, ordering, “Call the police. Dig three feet into the ground but also find my son's whereabouts from her hands! Have a lawyer draw up a divorce agreement for me now. The custody of my son must be mine!”

Just then, the kindergarten teacher called Aaron.

“Mr. Wilson, I'm sorry for your loss. We know about your son's death. The kindergarten children folded a thousand paper cranes and little stars for him and want to give them to him. I wonder if you have time to come over and pick them up?”

Aaron heard the words and instantly became full of incredulity, shouting angrily at me, “You're really good at this! Even Luke's teacher cooperated with you in this play!”

His words shattered my heart once again, sending me into an abyss of endless darkness.

The person on the phone was stunned for a moment before she spoke timidly and carefully.

“Mr. Wilson, don't you know? On the day you and Ms. Atkinson flew to Snow Mountain to see the snow and set off fireworks for her, your son died of drowning. At that time, he was holding a pair of earrings… tightly in his hand.”
