Chapter 2

The next morning, Frank looked exhausted, with big bags under his eyes, but his tone was much softer, "Vivian, we’ve got three more days off. How about we go somewhere you like, and I’ll tag along?"

"Nah, I gotta work overtime."

"You serious?" Frank hesitated for a while, looking skeptical.

I was so mad I laughed and showed him the overtime notice in the group chat.

"I told you before the break, I’m only free the first two days."

Too bad he never remembers what I say.

Frank looked a bit embarrassed and scratched his head, "Heading to the office now? I can drop you off."

"No need."

Last month, there was a big storm and we got called in for overtime. I was freaked out by the thunder and wanted Frank to drive me, but he was busy playing a video game and brushed me off.

So I went alone, got soaked, and saw Lily’s Instagram post not long after I got there.

"Thanks to my knight for bringing me an umbrella. I’m so touched."

The umbrella in her photo was a limited edition I bought recently and hadn’t even used myself.

Frank and I had a huge fight that day, but he called me pretentious and stingy!

We didn’t talk for a week. To patch things up, I suggested a trip to Riverdale for the holiday.

This trip really showed me my place in Frank's heart.

On the weekend, Frank said he had a class reunion and asked me to come along.

I had no plans, so I agreed.

As I was getting in the car, Frank asked me to sit in the back.

"We gotta pick up Lily later. She gets carsick, so she needs the front seat."

I almost forgot that Lily and Frank were college buddies.

So, of course, she’d be at the reunion.

When we picked up Lily, she slid into the front seat, chatting with Frank for a while before noticing me.

Lily acted surprised, "Oh, Vivian’s here too? Frank didn’t tell me. I would’ve let you have the front seat... I’m so sorry, I just get dizzy in the back... Hope you don’t mind."

I forced a smile, "It’s fine, I don’t mind."

At the hotel, they walked in side by side, and I followed.

A classmate joked, "Wow, our golden couple is back together. Frank, you’re loyal!"

Frank pulled me to his side, a bit embarrassed, and introduced me, "This is my girlfriend. Lily and I are just good friends now."

Lily joined in, wrapping her arm around Frank’s shoulders, "Who says exes can’t be friends? Frank and I are like siblings now!"

Our trio felt weird, and everyone exchanged confused looks. Then someone tried to lighten the mood, "Latecomers get three drinks. The ladies are off the hook, but Frank’s not getting away!"

Lily was all for it, "Frank, drink up!"

Frank took the glass but glanced at me uncertainly.

He thought I’d stop him from drinking.

Frank has a sensitive stomach and gets sick from spicy food. I’ve always looked out for his health, but he’s big on reputation. In the past, he’d yell at me for not letting him drink with his buddies, saying I was meddling.

So I didn’t stop him this time.

With everyone egging him on, Frank downed three glasses in a row, then we sat down.

While we were eating, Lily picked up a piece of braised pork, ate the lean part herself, and put the fatty bit in Frank’s bowl.

"Oh, I don’t eat fatty meat. Frank, can you eat this for me?"

Everyone looked at me, and one girl teased, "Lily, isn’t that a bit much? His girlfriend’s right here."

Chapter 3

Lily was smug, "Vivian wouldn’t care. She knows Frank and I go way back!"

That’s true. Every time Frank and I go on a date, Lily always finds an excuse to join us.

In front of me, she’d ask Frank to peel shrimp for her, eat her leftovers, and even help with her bra straps. Frank never said no, and I got used to it.

I smiled, "Yeah, that’s just how they are."

Someone laughed and said, "Vivian, you’re a saint!"

I used to get really upset about it and even cried all night, but Frank said I was just jealous of Lily and overreacting.

After eating and drinking, they started reminiscing about their college days. Since everyone involved was there, they began making jokes about Frank and Lily.

I listened, interested.

Frank had told me they dated and broke up amicably. But whenever I asked for details, he’d get annoyed and shut me down. The fight would even last days with him saying no words to me.

Now I found out they dated for two years in college. They were perfect together, and their relationship was intense.

Later, Lily went abroad, and Frank, heartbroken, drank all the time, which messed up his stomach.

Lily sighed, "It’s a shame. When I came back, Frank already had a new girlfriend. If I’d known he missed me so much, I wouldn’t have left."

If I remember right, Frank and I picked up Lily when she returned from abroad.

At that time, Lily had a foreign boyfriend.

That night, Frank came home drunk. I thought it was work stress, so I made him some hangover soup and massaged his stomach all night.

Thinking back, I felt so stupid.

When the reunion ended, everyone was tipsy and wobbly.

Frank and Lily walked together, and I trailed behind everyone.

As we passed the pool, Lily suddenly came over and shouted so loud everyone could hear her, "Let’s play a game!"

"If Vivian and I simultaneously fell into the water, who would Frank save?"

Before I could react, Lily pulled me and both of us fell into the pool.

Water splashed everywhere, and the cold hit me hard.

Everyone on the shore gasped.

Frank didn’t hesitate and jumped into the pool.
