Chapter 3
Most of the clothes she wore as a woman dressed as a man bought for her by me.
Callum occasionally learned about Isabel from me and concluded she came from a wealthy family.
He eagerly asked for an introduction, insisting it would be disrespectful not to meet Isabel.
On the day of our dinner, Isabel changed from men's clothes back into a hot suspender miniskirt that exposed most of her body, adorned with luxury items.
Isabel believed Callum's wealth was a chance for her to elevate her status while trying to tarnish my reputation.
Callum, noticing Isabel's attire and social media updates, became increasingly convinced of her affluent background.
However, the updates that Isabel made on her social media were mostly pictured when she spent time with me.
Both saw themselves as hunters, attempting to gain from one another.
Isabel was skilled at exploiting opportunities, and I later discovered it was she who posted the viral videos through Neo's account, who was a minor.
She held a grudge against me because Tessa said last time that I was a teacher and had more knowledge than her.
She spread rumors about me online and instigated Callum to cause trouble at my school.
Knowing her vanity would compel her to attend, I invited her to a high-end restaurant.
I pushed the menu towards her, "I've already ordered some. Add whatever you want."
She responded condescendingly, "What do you want with me?"
Meanwhile, she discreetly took photos of the restaurant and our meal.
I knew Isabel would update the meal in high-end places on her social media later.
I asked, "Do you think you can spread rumors online without facing consequences?"
Isabel paused, then mocked, "Shouldn't you be in school? Now that you have time to invite me, I guess you've been expelled from school."
I replied, "You stole my boyfriend, pretended to be different men around me, and made me lose my reputation and get expelled from school. Did you achieve your goal?"
Isabel glared at me, her anger barely contained. "Ashley, why do you always take Callum's money to flaunt your generosity while acting like you're helping me? You have a decent job in Tessa's eyes. Of course, I have to take away all these good things."
My job required professionalism, so I kept a low profile.
I treated Isabel as a friend and gave her gifts, but she saw it was me showing off and giving her handouts.
And she always believed these gifts came from Callum's money.
The malice towards women in this world came from all directions.
Wealthy families didn't necessarily need a male heir but could also have a female heir.
Isabel took a deep breath and continued, "But it doesn't matter now. Callum is my legal husband, and I will enjoy the luxurious life you once had."
Before leaving, I warned her, "Don't think you can run riot online without consequences. Everyone must face the repercussions of their actions."
Chapter 4
I posted a clarification online, showing the pictures and records of the clothes I bought for Isabel, which matched exactly what she wore in the video.
I authorized my team to release a carefully edited surveillance video from the restaurant, showing the conversation between Isabel and I that day.
A bystander confirmed he was seated nearby and witnessed everything.
Netizens who were watching the incident quickly scolded Isabel.
Those who had been criticizing me online now redirected the accusations toward Isabel.
Isabel used public opinion to hurt me deliberately, but now she was being bitten back.
The overwhelmingly negative public opinion caused Isabel's cowardly boss to fire her directly.
Callum called me angrily, "Because of you, Isabel lost her job and is now depressed. If anything happens to our child, it's your fault."
I replied, "Then you can arrange a new job for her. If you really care so much about her, you can just let her rest at home instead of working."
In a fit of rage, Callum went to that restaurant again and made a scene, making unreasonable demands and insisting they violated Isabel's privacy.
Callum demanded five million dollars in damages or threatened to sue.
That restaurant happened to be my family's business.
When the manager reported to me that Callum was making a scene and demanding compensation, I was shocked.
Despite Callum's outrageous demands, I instructed the manager to pay for it. I had a long-term strategy.
I took a leave of absence from the principal to investigate the manipulation of public opinion.
While inspecting my shopping mall, I noticed a crowd gathering, with many taking videos.
To my surprise, I met Callum and Isabel here again.
Isabel was loudly berating mall staff.
She asked the staff to turn off the WiFi in the entire shopping mall, claiming it would harm her unborn child.
Despite staff's patient explanations, Isabel was so arrogant that she almost poked the staff's nostrils with her fingertips.
She remained aggressive, threatening, "If it affects the life of the fetus, I will make your mall pay for it."
The staff said he had never encountered such a thing and needed to ask his superiors.
The onlookers were discussing the matter one by one.
"You can build a shopping mall by yourself and do whatever you want."
"If you don't use Wi-Fi, others still need to use it. Don't come into the mall if you're worried."
"Did you ever go to school? It is the first time I've heard that WiFi affects the fetus. I'm speechless."
"There's nothing worth passing on with inferior genes like yours. Shame on you."
After hearing what everyone said, Callum, in order to vent Isabel's anger and to show off, took out a wad of cash from his pocket and threw it into the air in the mall.
A few of them happened to fall at Callum's feet, and he crushed them hard with his toes.
Callum cursed, "The last thing I need is money. You poor bastards, shut up and pick it up."
Chapter 5
I noticed Callum's arrogance had grown since receiving the five million dollars from the restaurant.
He assumed everyone was driven by money.
However, the anticipated enthusiastic response didn't materialize.
Instead, the crowd looked at them in surprise or disbelief.
In the face of this cold reception, Callum and Isabel appeared confused.
I couldn't help but bow my head in deep thought, recalling how I had come to like such a man who acted casually in life and thought highly of himself, a man with neither substance nor wealth.
I slowly stepped out from the crowd and came in front of Isabel and Callum, explaining with a smile, "Don't you guys realize that all the people gathered here are either rich or noble?"
Callum didn't even bother to look at me squarely and said contemptuously, "Ashley, you see I'm not poor anymore. This money is a reward for you, enough for two months' salary. But don't think we can get back together."
I turned to the staff member checking identities, asking, "Did you check their cards when they entered the mall?"
The staff carefully looked at the faces of Callum and Isabel and apologized to me repeatedly.
He wiped the sweat from his forehead and said, "Our mall is so hot today that I overlooked them and didn't have time to check their cards."
Callum shouted, "Isn't a mall for shopping? Why check cards? Is there any place I can't go to? Are you looking down on me? Do you think I can't afford it?"
Isabel, with her slightly bulging belly and her head held high, echoed, "We are wealthy. You'll never see so much money in your lifetime."
The onlookers' attitude shifted from surprise to contempt.
I subtly signaled the staff, who understood my intent.
The staff apologized to Isabel and Callum, "I apologize for our oversight. We'll prepare small gifts as compensation, but please verify your cards."
Callum asked, "What card do we need to verify?"
The staff patiently explained, "It's your bank card. This is a high-end shopping mall. We need to confirm your balance meets a certain amount for entry."
Callum pulled out his card, muttering, "Just verify it."
I followed the staff, turned up the verification machine's volume, and allowed the results to broadcast throughout the mall.
The machine announced, "Sorry, your account balance is four million dollars, not enough for entry."
Our mall catered to high-end consumers, requiring a minimum balance of ten million dollars to enter.
Of course, our mall was top-notch in the quality of goods and the standard of service.
The onlookers in the mall burst into laughter after hearing the announcement.
