After My Alpha Rejected Me for My Sister Summary

The bond fractured at 10:08 p.m. during my Come of Age Ceremony. Three seconds prior, a strange, electric pulse awakened my dormant wolf, whispering a single word: *Mate.* Then came his scent—cedar and rain, sharp and undeniable. Across the candlelit hall stood Gideon, the Alpha. As his gaze locked in my direction, my wolf stirred for the very first time, unaware of the devastating rejection that would soon shatter this newly discovered connection.

Chapter 1 of After My Alpha Rejected Me for My Sister

The bond broke at 10:08 p.m. on the night of my Come of Age Ceremony.

I felt it start three seconds earlier—a pulse deep in my chest, electric and unfamiliar, like something waking up after years of silence. My wolf stirred for the first time. Not a full awakening, just a flicker, a breath, a single word whispered through my mind: *Mate.*

Then the scent hit me. Cedar and rain. Sharp and clean and utterly unmistakable.

I looked up. Gideon stood across the ceremonial hall, framed by candlelight and the assembled pack. His eyes were already on me—or I thought they were. For three seconds, hope bloomed in my chest, fierce and terrifying and so bright it hurt.

Then he stepped onto the dais.

He looked past me. Entirely past me. His gaze landed somewhere to my left, and I knew—before he opened his mouth, before the formal words left him, I knew—but my wolf was still whispering *mate, mate, mate* and I couldn't make her stop.

"I, Gideon Ward, Alpha of the Silverfang Pack," he said, his voice carrying through the hall with the weight of absolute authority, "reject you, Shiloh Miller, as my mate."

The mark on my neck went ice-cold.

Not pain. Not yet. Just cold, spreading across my skin like frost eating through glass.

"I choose Rachel Miller as my Luna."

My wolf collapsed. Violently. Like something inside me had been killed mid-breath. The flicker that had just woken went out so fast I felt the vacuum it left behind—a dead space where a heartbeat should have been.

The hall was utterly still.

I stood there, legs shaking, while two hundred wolves watched in silence. Not one voice rose. Not one protest. My father stood three rows back, beside Rachel, and he did not move. Rachel's hand was on his arm. She was smiling.

I turned and walked.

Past the rows of pack members who looked away. Past the ceremonial candles still burning. Past the table where my untouched glass of wine sat, the one I was supposed to drink after the mate bond was acknowledged. My legs barely held me. The cold from the mark spread across my chest, into my ribs, wrapping around my lungs.

I made it outside. Behind the pack house. Into the dark.

Then my knees gave out.

I crumpled against the wall, pressing my hand to my neck where the mark had been. It wasn't gone. It was worse than gone. It was hollow. Empty. A scar of something that had tried to exist and been killed before it could.

My wolf was silent. Not dormant. Dead.

I don't know how long I sat there. Long enough for the cold to stop spreading and settle into a dull, bone-deep ache. Long enough for my hands to stop shaking and start going numb.

Footsteps.

I didn't look up. I didn't care who it was. Let them see. Let them report back to Rachel that I was exactly as broken as she'd always said I'd be.

"Get up."

The voice was sharp. Female. Familiar.

I blinked and saw Aaliyah Ward standing over me—Gideon's mother, the retired Luna, her face unreadable in the shadows.

"I can't," I whispered.

"You can. You will."

She crouched down, grabbed my chin, and slapped me. Hard. Across the face.

The sting cut through the bond-shock fog like a knife. I gasped, my hand flying to my cheek.

"There," Aaliyah said coolly. "Now you're awake. Get up. You are not dying here."

She pressed something into my hand—a sealed letter, the paper thick and formal.

"What—"

"No questions. Listen." Her voice dropped, low and urgent. "I've arranged a position for you. Personal household attendant to a man on the edge of Blackmoor territory. You leave tonight."

"Tonight?" My voice cracked. "I can't just—"

"You can't stay." She pulled me to my feet with a grip that left no room for argument. "Do you want to be here tomorrow morning when your sister moves into the Luna's quarters? When the pack starts whispering about how the Omega couldn't even hold her own mate?"

I flinched.

"He is more than he seems," Aaliyah continued, her eyes boring into mine, "and so are you. Trust me. Or don't. But if you stay here, you will break in ways you won't recover from."

She released me and stepped back. Behind her, I could see the pack house—light spilling from the windows, the sound of music starting up again. Rachel's laughter, bright and victorious, carried on the night air.

I looked down at the letter in my hand. Then at Aaliyah.

"There's a bag by the east gate," she said quietly. "I packed it this afternoon. Go."

I wanted to ask how she'd known. How she'd prepared for this before it happened. But the cold hollow in my chest was spreading again, and I couldn't form the words.

I turned toward the east gate.

I didn't look back.

The Silverfang border was a fifteen-minute walk through the woods. I crossed it just after midnight, the sealed letter in my coat pocket and the bag Aaliyah had packed slung over my shoulder. The mark on my neck throbbed with every step—not pain, exactly, but the echo of something that should have been there and wasn't.

No one stopped me.

No one called my name.

I walked into Blackmoor territory alone, and the forest swallowed me whole.
