Chapter 1 of After My Alpha Ordered Wolves to Tear Me Apart

The Council's investigation notice came at eleven at night. By one in the morning, I was still in the Luna's office, scrolling through eight months of allied pack transfers on my laptop.

My name is Allison Crawford. For sixteen years I've been Luna of the Ironveil Pack. I built this territory with my mate, Graham Morgan, from a border scrap of forest into one of the strongest packs in the Northeast. I know every dollar that moves through our accounts. I sign off on them myself.

So when the Council sent word that millions had been embezzled from our allied funds, I knew two things. One, I hadn't done it. Two, someone in this house had.

I rubbed my eyes and reached for my phone. A notification blinked at the top of the screen. Instagram. A burner account I didn't follow. The kind of tag that shouldn't exist.

I opened it.

Fifteen seconds of video. Shot through a glass door.

Graham's hand on a bare shoulder. The Alpha suite balcony—I knew that railing, that view. The woman had her back to the camera. But the glass caught her reflection.

Rylee.

My half-sister. My rogue-born half-sister, whose mother had shattered my parents' bond before I was old enough to understand what shattering meant.

Something inside me lifted its head for the first time in years.

My wolf.

She'd been quiet so long I'd forgotten what her voice sounded like. Now she howled inside my chest—a raw, mourning sound that felt like it had been waiting a decade to escape. Not surprise. Recognition. She had known. She had been trying to tell me.

I closed the laptop. Stood up. Walked out of the office.

My legs felt strange. Too steady. Like a body that had gone past feeling and come out the other side.

The Alpha's study door was cracked open. Warm light spilled onto the hallway rug.

I pushed it open.

Rylee was on the couch I'd chosen. The blue one, the one I'd hauled through three furniture shops before I found the right shade. Her legs were tucked under her like she lived there. Graham sat beside her, and his hand rested on her knee the way a hand rests when it has rested there a hundred times before.

They looked up. Neither moved.

"Eight years," I said.

Rylee's chin tilted slightly to the right—her tell, the one she used when she was pretending to be small. I'd noticed it years ago without knowing why.

I kept going. "The forged records. The frame. The Council report tomorrow morning. All of it."

Graham stood up.

He didn't deny anything. He didn't even try. That was almost the worst part. He just looked at me like a problem he'd already solved.

"Allison," he said, and I heard it starting in his throat. The Alpha tone. The one I'd stood beside him through, the one I'd helped him learn to use on our enemies.

He used it on me now.

"Stay."

The word hit my chest like a truck. My knees locked. My spine locked. My hands stopped answering me. My wolf slammed against the inside of my ribs and could not get out.

He walked past me to the front doors of the pack house. Opened them wide.

They came in like a storm.

Alpha Marcus Webb of Thornfield. Three others I'd hosted at my own table. All of them shifting mid-stride—clothes tearing, bones cracking, teeth lengthening. They'd been told I stole from them. They'd been told for weeks.

I couldn't move. I couldn't even turn my head.

The first wolf hit me in the side and my hip broke against the floor.

After that it was teeth.

I don't remember all of it. I remember Rylee in the doorway. She had her arms folded. She was smiling—not big, not gloating. Small. Satisfied. The look you get when a plan works.

I remember thinking, very clearly: the baby.

Only weeks along. I hadn't told anyone. I hadn't even told Graham.

I remember Graham's voice from somewhere above the noise: "Enough."

And then the quiet.

---

Ophelia Reyes stitched me back together in the healing wing. She's our pack Healer, and she has hands that don't shake even when they should.

She worked for a long time in silence. When she finally spoke, she kept her eyes on the needle.

"Allison. The pup."

I already knew. I'd felt it the moment the second wolf hit me.

"I know," I said.

She nodded once. She did not offer me anything soft. That was the kindest thing she could have done.

I stared at the ceiling tiles. I counted them. I did not cry. Grief is a liquid, and liquid gets in the way. I needed something else. Something with edges.

So I made it.

---

Graham came the next morning.

He did not sit down. He stood at the foot of the bed with his hands in his pockets and looked at me the way you look at a ledger.

"The Tribunal is in three days," he said. "You'll confess to the embezzlement. You'll clear Rylee's name. You'll accept the Council's ruling."

I didn't answer.

"Your mother is two floors up," he said. "Her care is expensive. The pack funds it. I can stop that today."

He said it in the same tone he used to use with me over coffee, back when we were planning trade routes and land buys. Like we were still equals discussing strategy.

I looked at him. I looked for the man who once took a silver blade meant for me. I looked for the man who gave me his last piece of bread during the winter war.

He wasn't there. I don't know when he left. Maybe years ago. Maybe I just hadn't been willing to see the empty chair.

I lowered my head.

"All right," I said.

He nodded, satisfied, and left.

He didn't see my hands. He didn't see the way they had stopped shaking.
