Chapter 1 of After My Accidental Death, My Ex-husband Regretted it

"What? A divorce?!"

"Why haven't you gone to die yet?"

Oliver Davis, my husband, always told me every time and I wouldn't forget about it. In his eyes, I am that liar who binds him with marriage and, at the same time, a thief who broke up his true love.

When his so-called true love returned to the US, he forgot everything he had at the moment. He just wanted to be with her.

Of course, what was worse was that I aimed to die, just like what he wished for me to happen.

On the day Maeve Lewis, his first love, returned, I could not control myself and threw all the things I could hold around the house.

As a result, the house was in a mess and when Oliver returned home, he had nowhere to stay.

With what he witnessed around, he did not dare to care. He commanded the nanny to clean all the mess, took his coat and left without arguing with me.

"Oliver, where are you going?" I asked.

I know he was in a hurry to attend Maeve's return banquet. After all, he had planned all of this for a month now. I could feel his excitement deep down.

Even now, he would rather attend the banquet, postpone all the scheduled meetings for today and not accompany me to the hospital just to be with Maeve. She was that important to him more than I, his wife.

Oliver turned his head to see me, too cold to care for me.

"If you're sick, go to the hospital and see a doctor," he said coldly. "Don't go home and be crazy."

"Oliver," I uttered, disheartened for treating me nothing to his life.

And before I could tell what I wanted to tell him, the surroundings around me darkened. In a split second, I collapsed in the hallway. The tingling pain in my stomach made me feel like dying.

I am still thankful I did not lose consciousness, but I am too weak to argue.

"Oliver, I'm sick," I mumbled with my weak, dying voice.

It seemed to be stomach cancer and seemed to be in an advanced stage.

Later, I decided to go to the hospital to get some medicine, but I finally crossed paths with Maeve.

It had been days since Maeve was back here. Unfortunately, I had not met her to have a conversation. She was well protected by Oliver, so much so that it would be impossible for me to see her, even her shadow.

For an unexpected reason, she was here with Oliver. It was not surprising, but I found it astonishing with both of them inside.

"Oliver, you're here?" I asked, sounding stunned. "Are you on a business trip to a hospital?"

The lie had been exposed the moment I glimpsed both of them. However, only Oliver was shocked to the bones. With eyes widened, he seemed to see a ghost and hid Maeve behind him.

"I won't let you hurt her ever again," Oliver said, grinning his teeth angrily.

Hearing that word hurt me like a dagger stabbed in me.

After all these years, Oliver still would not dare to believe me. I was not the reason behind Maeve's rape incident. Yes, she was raped, but I was not the mastermind behind it nor anticipated it would transpire on her. And Oliver put all the blame on me!

"Am I that bad in your eyes, huh?" I asked.

However, Oliver zipped his mouth, but his sarcastic glare on me disheartened me a lot.

"Why won't you believe in me?!" I questioned again, somewhat puzzled and was about to touch him.

With disgust, Oliver let go of my hand and asked, "Do you think I will believe a liar like you? Everything you said can't be trusted anymore!"

It was expected. Deep within him, he treated me as a liar.

In both the past and the future, people find me unbearable. I knew it.

Late at night, it was Maeve who escorted Oliver back home.

I assisted Oliver, who was intoxicated, to his room. Suddenly, I felt a pain in my stomach again. Before I could respond, Oliver rolled over and kissed me.

The kiss was long and intense. But when I noticed the lip mark on his collar, I felt sick. As I tried to move away, he unexpectedly hugged me tightly.

I held back my sadness and told him, "Oliver, I'm not Maeve."

I realized he had mistaken me for Maeve. He wouldn't have acted much if he knew it was me.

Never in my life did he embrace me affectionately the way he did to Maeve.

He suddenly realized and released me. Then, he gently touched my face and said, "You should feel lucky that you have similarities with her."

Something was stuck in my throat, making my breathing hard.

While I pondered my future, he had been busy with Maeve, organizing parties and watching fireworks together. He even worked with his uncle to help Maeve get a job in the capital.

"Oliver, did you ever care about me?" I asked bitterly, but he just sneered.

"If it weren't for you and Grandpa pressuring me, do you think I'd have married you?" He questioned me back.

"I only love Maeve alone," he declared.

I stared at him while in mixed emotions and felt suffocated deep within. Anytime soon, I felt like collapsing weakly onto the sofa.

That pained me a lot, but all I could do was watch him walk away, step by step.

It was crystal clear what transpired in the past year. During that time, his grandpa, Leo Davis, was seriously ill. Out of the blue, he asked Oliver to agree to marry me.

That time, Oliver showed his love for Maeve. He chose her over his family's decision, even if it meant destroying his connection with them.

This drama continued until Leo ended up in the ICU and Maeve went abroad. I considered helping them, but I am sure Maeve wasn't the right woman for Oliver.

I promised Grandpa Leo I would protect him forever and never dared break it up.

At last, Oliver agreed to marry me. I believed my long-standing loyalty could win him over with time and honesty. But I was wrong about myself and underestimated Oliver.
