Chapter 1

It'd been over three months since I broke up with my ex, and now I'd discovered I was pregnant. Not long after, his current fiancée showed up at my door, offering me two million dollars to have the baby and hand it over to her.

That was when I learned that my ex, who I had been with for three years, was actually a billionaire heir.

At that moment, all I could think was, "Liam Moore, you've got to be kidding me!"

——

It was the end of December when a woman showed up at my door, her attitude as haughty as they come.

"Are you Cecilia Foster?" she demanded.

I frowned. "Yes, what's it to you?"

She introduced herself with a tone that left no room for misunderstanding, "I'm Leah Wilson, Liam's fiancée."

"Oh, I've been broken up with him for ages," I said, reaching for the door to shut it. Leah blocked my way.

Without missing a beat, she said, "I know you're pregnant."

I instinctively touched my still-flat belly. This was news to me, too. How does this woman find out so quickly?

To avoid any hassle, I fibbed, "It's not Liam's."

Leah's next words were even more shocking. "Whoever the father is, I'm offering two million dollars. Just have the baby and give it to me."

Chapter 2

I stared at her, stunned for a couple of seconds, then burst out, "Are you out of your mind? I'm not keeping this baby, so just get lost and forget about it!"

I slammed the door in her face, feeling utterly insulted.

I thought, So Liam is rolling in it now, huh? No wonder he left me so easily. This woman's offering two million right off the bat—talk about having money to burn. She looks pretty young; can't she have her own kids? What year is this, anyway? People are coming to buy babies now? This is just ridiculous!

After venting my anger at Leah, I couldn't help but start cursing Liam in my mind.

I recalled the frantic days before our breakup, when he was practically glued to me, unable to stay away for a second.

We've been careful with contraception, so how could this happen?

I didn't have time to ponder it further as I started retching, clutching the toilet, and unable to stop.

I had already scheduled the procedure.

Ever since Liam broke up with me in person, we had no contact. I'd blocked him on everything—if it was over, it was over for good. It was about being responsible for myself and for anyone else who might come into my life.

More importantly, I couldn't let Liam look down on me or criticize me behind my back. I needed him to see that I had some backbone!

As I was steeling myself, wiping away tears, I received a call from the hospital.

Chapter 3

The call from the hospital left me reeling. They informed me that my test results had come back, and it turned out my uterine lining was too thin. After a miscarriage, they warned, I might never be able to get pregnant again. They advised me to think carefully before scheduling the procedure.

I felt as though I'd been struck by lightning.

After checking my bank balance, I called my boss at the news department. "I'll take the report on the Moore Group's heir," I said firmly.

My boss' face lit up immediately. "Cecilia, you've finally come to your senses! We've had so many colleagues try and fail. But you, you're our star. With your skills and looks, you're bound to nail it!"

I laid out my terms right away. "If I get it, I want my year-end bonus doubled."

Coverage of high society scandals was always a crowd-pleaser, and the Moore Group's heir master was particularly elusive. There were no photos or details about him online. With the recent news of the impending union between the Moore and Wilson families, every major newspaper was eager to grab any information they could. If we managed to cover the wedding live, the traffic would be through the roof.

Three months ago, there were rumors that the Moore Group's heir had been in a serious car accident and lost his ability to have children. I was not sure how credible that was.

I thought, That crazy woman who came asking for the baby—what was her name again? Oh, right, Leah Wilson. And she's offering me two million. What a coincidence that she shares the same last name as the Wilsons?

My investigative instincts kicked in, and I decided to look into Leah's background.

When her photo appeared on my screen, I gasped. It was her—Leah Wilson.

I realized, If she's Liam's fiancée, then Liam must be the heir of the Moore Group I need to interview.

Everything was starting to come together.
