Chapter 1

To save my husband, I drank until my stomach bled. Despite making it to the hospital, no one would treat me—all because he, a prominent surgeon, forbade anyone from attending to his own wife.

In a previous life, he had saved me, a deed that fate cruelly repaid: the same day he saved me, his beloved, Lily Evans, tragically died during surgery. Consumed by regret, he lamented, "If I hadn't saved you, she might still be alive."

On my birthday, in a twisted celebration, he intoxicated both me and our daughter. In a horrifying turn, he used his surgical skills to ruthlessly stab us both. As I lay bleeding, I begged for our daughter's life, pleading with him to spare her, his biological child. He coldly justified his brutality by claiming that being tied to me caused him to miss his chance with his true love.

Fueled by a desperate need to protect my daughter, I fought him ferociously. He inflicted thirty-eight merciless wounds on me before turning his murderous intent towards our child. As I faced death, my last sight was of him, his decision clear as he once again chose his lost love over his living family.

The hospital was in chaos.

My husband, Stephen Howard, carried Lily Evans into the emergency room.

He glared at me fiercely, his eyes filled with irreconcilable hatred.

A twisting pain in my abdomen sent shivers of terror through me!

As I woke up to the day of my gastric bleeding, my husband had returned from the past as well.

Before his death, he confessed, "With Lily gone, I refuse to cling to life!"

Then he swallowed poison.

Now, he had chosen to save Lily immediately, deciding to abandon me.

I tried to walk away, but I couldn't move.

Other doctors in the emergency room just watched me coldly.

I couldn't accept it and pleaded again, "Please save me! I have a perforated stomach! It's critical!"

Frank Turner burst out laughing, "Who do you think you're fooling? I'm the one with the medical degree here, not you. Everyone in the hospital knows you're jealous of Lily! But there's a limit to making a scene at the hospital; this is a place for saving lives."

The rest of the medical staff looked at me with disdain. I knew I couldn't persuade them. Stephen had already instructed the entire department not to waste medical resources on me.

Clenching my fists, I decided to head to internal medicine instead. Earlier, to apologize on Stephen's behalf to a patient who had complained about him, I had drunk several liters of alcohol. My stomach burned as if it were searing on a stove, both painful and fiery.

The symptoms were exactly the same as in my past life: gastric bleeding compounded by a perforated stomach, a condition that could be fatal at any moment.

If I had known how ruthless Stephen could be, I would never have done such a foolish thing for him.

But who could have foreseen the future?

Even after my rebirth, I was still dealt a poor hand.

Fortunately, my daughter was still alive, and I still had a chance to survive.

Leaning on the wall, I made it to the internal medicine department next door. "Doctor, I've drunk a lot of alcohol, and my stomach is perforated. Could you please..."

The doctor gave me a cold look and pointed to the long line. "Go to the end of the line! If it were really that critical, the emergency room would have taken you. You don't need to come here!"

I wanted to argue, but I found myself too weak.

The pain was unbearable!

I could barely speak clearly. It seemed Stephen hadn’t just informed the emergency department that I was faking my illness; he had communicated with the entire hospital staff.

Stephen, how could you be so cruel?!

Calling an ambulance was futile; this was the closest facility. The emergency system would still direct me here. To save my life, I had no choice but to try another hospital.

As I walked out the door, the medical staff erupted in cheers.

"Can’t keep up the act anymore? Are you leaving now?"

"Ha! She's crazy! Who would bother with her!"

"I hate mistresses the most, those who break up couples to climb on top."

The comments were more venomous than the last. Who had spread such rumors?

I didn't have the strength to figure it out. My only goal was to survive!

At 3 AM, the hospital entrance was deserted and chillingly quiet. I couldn’t even hail a car.

After waiting ten minutes with no luck, I had no choice but to directly call the hospital director, Ronald Thomas.

"Dr. Thomas, I have a perforated stomach, and your emergency department doctors are refusing to treat me, accusing me of faking it! If something happens to me, I’ll make sure the hospital takes full responsibility!"

I always had Ronald’s phone number since he was a friend of my grandfather.

However, I heard from Stephen that he was a cunning and petty man, often making life difficult for his subordinates. Because of this, I was biased against him and never made contact. I didn’t expect Ronald to recognize my voice immediately when I called.

"Is that you, Teresa? You're sick? Who would dare refuse to treat you? Where are you? I'm coming out right now to see you myself!"

Casting aside my prejudices, I replied weakly, "I'm at the hospital entrance."

Chapter 2

After hanging up the phone, I forced my body to walk towards the hospital.

There were chairs in the waiting area where I could sit; perhaps if I sat down, I could endure until Ronald arrived.

The chair was only a hundred meters from the door, yet it felt like I had walked miles to reach it.

Just as I touched the edge of the chair, someone pushed me away.

I collapsed to the ground, pain ripping through me as if my organs were being torn apart. Unable to control myself, I writhed on the floor in agony, tears and mucus streaming down my face.

A familiar voice gasped nearby, "Sorry! Teresa, I didn't see you there!"

It was a voice I could never forget in two lifetimes.

It was Stephen's beloved, Lily.

I lifted my tear-blurred eyes to look at her.

There she sat in a wheelchair, eyes full of triumph, looking at me provocatively.

And the person pushing her wheelchair was none other than Stephen.

My nemesis from a past life, we met again.

A torrent of hatred surged within me!

I would never forget how he brutally stabbed me thirty-eight times! He continuously hurled vile insults at me, "Worthless woman! You deserved to die…"

The mental torment and physical abuse were unbearable. The sharp pain was a hundred, a thousand times worse than my current perforated stomach. My flesh was nearly stabbed into a bloody pulp.

In his blind rage, he didn’t even spare our three-year-old daughter.

Before I took my last breath, he stabbed our daughter, Nancy Howard, to death right in front of me.

Nancy was only three years old. She was so small.

She kept pleading, "Daddy, please don’t kill me!"

Stephen mercilessly continued his attack, stabbing her while cursing, "Wretch! If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have married your mother! Lily wouldn't have died!"

An irreconcilable hatred made me scream out in horror, "You murderer!"

Stephen slapped me across the face. "Crazy woman! What are you screaming for?" "You've embarrassed me enough by pretending to have a stomach ailment in the hospital. Now you're pretending to be mentally ill? Fine, I'll send you to the psychiatric ward!"

With that, Stephen tried to drag me away. He pulled me as if I were a sack of potatoes, intending to haul me off.

The pain made me scream desperately.

"Help! Murder! My husband and his mistress are conspiring to kill his legal wife! They took advantage of my illness to push me! If that’s not the act of a murderer, what is? If something happens to me today, everyone must bear witness!"

I deliberately made a scene!

There were many patients in the hospital; I was certain there had to be some kind-hearted people!

Stephen might have bribed all the hospital staff.

However, the patients' attitudes were neutral.

I couldn't contend with Stephen over past life grievances, as no one would believe it.

His current mistreatment of me, a patient, amounted to nothing less than attempted murder.

Indeed, under my piteous cries, people began to look at me with sympathy. Some had already taken out their phones, ready to call the police.

Seeing that everyone was moved by my pleas, I implored them further, "Please, go find Dr. Thomas. I have a perforated stomach and I'm dying!"

Just as the situation was about to escalate, Stephen suddenly helped me up.

He calmly explained to everyone, "I apologize, my wife has some mental issues. I'll take her to see a doctor right away."

Then he forcefully pulled me to a deserted corner and viciously grabbed my throat. "You wretch! Are you trying to spread rumors and kill me?"

I endured the pain, shifting my gaze towards the security camera above us.

A mocking smile formed at the corner of my mouth.

"Stephen, you know my condition is critical. If I die in this hospital today, you can't escape responsibility! You've already laid your hands on me, and your fingerprints are on my body.

“Are you prepared to go down with me? Can you bear to lose your beloved Lily? Even if I were to die again, I'm certain I would be reborn. But you might not be so lucky!"

His eyes widened at my words. "You know the secret of rebirth? Tell me! How does one get reborn?"

Chapter 3

A cold smirk played across my mind.

Even if I did know the secret to rebirth, I wouldn't tell him.

If Stephan knew, he would surely try to prevent me from being reborn again.

I needed to divert his attention. "I also know the secrets about you and Lily."

Stephen’s grip loosened in panic, demanding, "Tell me! What else do you know?"

I voiced my suspicion, "I know that both you and Lily have been reborn!"

There was a moment of chaos in Stephen's demeanor before he regained his composure and replied sharply, "So what? Haven’t you also been reborn?"

He had admitted it, and now he turned to threaten me. "If you dare spread this secret and jeopardize our futures, I’ll make sure you die a worse death than in your previous life!"

I braced myself against the discomfort, refusing to show weakness. "That depends on whether you behave! I’ve told you, I can always start over if I die!"

Doubt filled Stephen's eyes.

He tentatively tightened his grip on my throat. "Do you think I'll let you manipulate me? We’ll see if you can come back to life if I kill you again!"

"Go ahead then, try!" I closed my eyes, ready to take the gamble.

I was betting he would hesitate because of his love for Lily.

Killing me in a hospital would be insane. He would have a hard time getting away with it.

"Stephen, what are you doing with her?"

Suddenly, a voice tinged with jealousy approached slowly.

Stephen quickly let go of me, turning anxiously to face Lily coming up behind him. "Lily, I was just teaching her a lesson. I got too angry!"

He certainly wouldn't dare admit in front of Lily that he wanted to kill me.

If Lily discovered he was a psychotic murderer, who could guess what she would think?

"How do you discipline her? By forcing a kiss? Or a hug?" Lily's voice, crazed with jealousy, made it sound like she was the rightful wife and I was merely the mistress.

I found it ironic and revolting.

Until today, I thought Stephen loved me, so I risked everything to love him back.

After today, he was nothing but trash in my eyes.

So, I no longer cared about competing for Stephen or making him jealous; I just wanted to stir trouble.

"He's my husband—we can do whatever we want! But you? You're nothing but a shameless mistress who doesn't know her place!"

Lily looked embarrassed upon hearing this. "I'm sorry, I thought you two were divorced already. I didn’t realize you’re still married. I just got back from abroad and wasn’t aware of the situation."

After saying this, she instructed Frank, who was pushing her wheelchair.

"Frank, let's go! It seems Dr. Stephen is busy. You can attend to me instead."

Frank gave me a cold look. "It seems you still have the energy to cause trouble! I knew you were faking your illness. In our eyes, you're the mistress! Stephen and Lily have been in love for so long, yet you swooped in and married him first! Stealing someone's lover is despicable!"

After saying that, he turned, pushing Lily away.

These two, along with Stephen, were classmates and saw me as a thorn in their side.

Stephen, still not satisfied, suddenly slapped me across the face. "What's with the smug look in front of Lily? I never had any feelings for you! Do you think I would have married you if you hadn't threatened me with pregnancy back then? We're getting divorced tomorrow! Stop trying to drive a wedge between me and Lily!"

After his outburst, he turned and snatched Lily’s wheelchair from Frank, asserting his dominance. "Frank, I'll take care of Lily’s medical needs; I'm her primary doctor. You go give that despicable woman a check-up, just to go through the motions. Dr. Thomas instructed us not to refuse treatment."

At the mention of Ronald, I couldn't focus on the pain from the slap; I cried out in desperation, "Where is Dr. Thomas? Why hasn’t he come yet?"

I knew only Ronald could save my life!

Stephen glanced back at me with a harsh stare. "Dr. Thomas doesn’t have time to deal with you; he's been summoned by city officials."

Overwhelmed with despair, I cried out in disbelief, "Impossible! He promised he was coming to see me! Life is at stake here! Dr. Thomas wouldn't break his word! This has to be your doing..."

Before I could finish, blood spurted from my mouth, followed by an uncontrollable gush. Was I about to die again?
