Chapter 1
My mother was in the advanced stage of stomach cancer, and her biggest wish before she died was to see me and Emma Hall get married.
After my repeated requests, Emma finally agreed to marry me.
But she suddenly disappeared on the wedding day, and that night my mother died with regret.
The next day, her childhood friend Mark Green posted a photo of the two of them on his Moments with the caption "You won't be happy if you force her to be with you. In her heart, I am the only one.".
My relatives and friends were all comforting me.
I wiped my tears and replied below, "Congratulations. You two scumbags must live together forever!"
——
I didn't make a fuss or quarrel. I just handled my mother's funeral arrangements by myself.
In fact, I was not surprised at all that Emma left me for Mark.
In the five years I was with her, Emma could leave me behind at any time due to a phone call from Mark.
I didn't want to know the reason for her absence .
After dealing with my mother's funeral, I went back home.
Emma wasn't at home, and I didn't want to see her either.
Unexpectedly, when I packed my luggage and was about to leave, I saw Emma walking in with Mark.
She was stunned for a moment when she saw me, then she glanced at the suitcase in my hand and frowned. "Dylan Scott, what are you doing?"
She sounded as if I was being unreasonable.
Mark smiled at me innocently, but he held Emma tightly with his hands provocatively. "Dylan, I'm so sorry. My hand was injured that day. Emma was worried about me and took care of me for two days. I didn't know that day was your wedding day."
I looked at him and saw a small plaster stuck to his left index finger.
So that was the reason why Emma didn't attend the wedding?
I suddenly felt it ridiculous.
In her heart, my mother and I were not as important as Mark's finger.
"Emma, let's break up!"
Chapter 2
The moment my mother died in my arms, all the love I had for Emma was gone.
Emma thought I was jealous of Mark. "Dylan, can you be more sensible? The wedding can be held anytime, but Mark was injured, and I couldn't just ignore it."
"Can you be more sensible?"
That was the sentence Emma had said to me most often.
But how to be sensible?
Because Emma said Mark was her brother, I allowed him to appear in our relationship.
I allowed her to carry medicine for Mark, allowed her to meet him when I needed her the most, and allowed him to be in her heart.
But they ended up hurting me even more. I had had enough of the kind of life.
I looked at Emma coldly and said, "You can do whatever you want in the future. I won't care about you anymore."
After saying that, I pulled the luggage past her.
Emma finally noticed that something was wrong with me and pulled me back. "Is your mom dissatisfied with what happened that day? I can go and explain to her."
I suddenly felt it so ridiculous.
It had been so many days. If she had cared about me a little more and asked me, she would not have said such a stupid thing.
I pried her hands apart and said, "It's too late!"
I was used to being gentle and flattering in front of Emma. I had never been as indifferent as I was now.
Emma looked at my back and was stunned for a moment.
When she came to her senses and was about to chase me, Mark pulled her back.
"Emma, this is not your fault. If his mother hadn't pretended to be sick, how could you have been forced to marry him?"
My head buzzed.
By the time Mark reacted, I had already slapped him in the face.
Chapter 3
Emma, who originally still felt guilty towards me, suddenly changed her expression.
She subconsciously protected Mark behind her and looked at me coldly. "Dylan, what are you doing!"
I glared at Mark and said, "Watch your mouth."
Mark was aggrieved and said, "Is there anything wrong with what I said? If your mother didn't pretend to be sick to force Emma, how could she agree to marry you?"
I looked at Emma and said, "Do you think so too?"
She didn't answer.
But I got the answer from her eyes.
Half a year before, my mother was diagnosed with advanced gastric cancer. She knew she wouldn't live long, and her last wish was to see me marry the person I loved and have a family of my own.
In order to fulfill my mom's last wish, I begged Emma and even knelt down in front of her before she agreed to marry me.
But she thought my mother pretended to be sick to force her to marry me.
Maybe she looked down on me from the bottom of her heart.
She was the cherished daughter and the only heir of the Halls. I fell in love with her at first sight in college and shamelessly pursued her for four years.
I followed her obediently, doing whatever she said and giving her whatever she wanted.
But after meeting Mark, I realized that she could be so gentle.
Mark could play with her, hold her hands and hug her.
He did all the things I wanted to do but didn't dare to do.
One time I hugged Emma from behind like Mark did, but she pushed me away with a cold face. "Dylan, don't do that."
I felt like I was slapped in the face in public and awkwardly watched her leave.
She never took the initiative to hold my hand. When I walked with her, I was always behind her. The only person who could walk alongside her was Mark, and she never refused to make physical contact with him.
Being with her, I had nothing except the title of her boyfriend.
Even in the eyes of outsiders, she and Mark were a couple.
If it weren't for my mother and my begging, she would never have agreed to marry me.
I looked at Emma with disappointment.
I had loved her for almost ten years. I suddenly began to doubt why I liked her in the first place.
Mark even stoked up her anger, "Emma, your boyfriend is so violent. Fortunately, you haven't married him yet."
Emma's attention suddenly returned to him.
I just used all my strength to slap him and his face turned red.
Emma's face suddenly turned ugly. "Dylan, apologize to him!"
"What if I don't?"
I raised my head with a stubborn expression on my face.
Emma suppressed her anger and said, "Dylan, don't make me angry."
To be honest, I had always been afraid of her. Every time she looked cold, I would subconsciously give in and directly admit my mistakes.
That was because I still cared about her at that time.
But now I didn't care about anything.
Mark was not satisfied and said, "I don't need him to apologize. He hit me and I wanted him punished."
Hearing that, Emma glanced at me, trying to make me give in.
But I still looked rebellious.
My attitude angered her, and she decided to teach me a lesson.
She signaled with her eyes for her two bodyguards to hold me down.
I didn't have the strength to struggle, nor did I want to.
Mark walked up to me smugly, raised his hand and slapped me several times.
Blood flowed from the corners of my mouth.
I said nothing and sat down on the ground in embarrassment.
Emma looked down at me and said, "The slaps are your punishment. Apologize to Mark now and I can pretend that nothing happened!"
