Chapter 1
At the celebration party, my superstar husband's first love, Julia Brown, received a playful punishment to reenact an on-screen kiss with him.
Without a moment's hesitation, my husband dove into the act, caressing and kissing with abandon.
Their vigorous movements led to an unfortunate tear in Julia's evening gown, revealing an unseemly amount of skin.
As she stood exposed, my husband shielded her in his arms amidst the roaring crowd.
I stepped onto the stage with a shawl in hand, only to be brushed aside by him.
He clung to Julia as if glued, exclaiming, "According to the plot, we should take this interaction to a deeper level!"
Maintaining my smile for the cameras, I remarked, "Sorry, soon-to-be ex, I was out of line. Hurry up and finish. I'll be waiting for you at the courthouse!
"This is live TV, mind the decorum! Two minutes enough?"
A stunned silence fell, with the crew staring at me in confusion.
My husband, Ian Adams, draped his coat over Julia, his face still filled with lingering desire.
The host laughed and commented, "Wow, the acting skills of our best actor and actress are top-notch. So dedicated! That's just acting, and someone actually took it to heart, interfering with the artistic creation!"
Unfazed by the sarcasm, I let out a scornful laugh, thrusting the camera towards Julia's face.
The hickey on her neck was glaringly obvious.
"Such convincing acting must be fueled by true feelings. They couldn't resist each other backstage either. Keep going. I'll get a close-up. It's just a man; no need to sneak around!"
Ian shielded Julia behind him.
I added, with a hint of kindness, "Julia, don't be fickle this time. Ian is now a top star; you won't be able to clean your image if you cheat again."
At the mention of her scandal, the sweetness on Julia's face froze instantly.
Ian turned sour immediately, dropping the live equipment and scolding me, "Morgan, this is normal interaction between actors. Don't stir up trouble!"
I was Ian's agent. We had been secretly married for years, with rumors spreading everywhere. His fans cursed me for not being a good match for him, saying I was clinging to his fame and hindering his career and marriage prospects.
I had never cared about the insults, risking my life to pave the way for his future.
But I was tired at that moment. I was ready to set him free.
Perhaps the fans at the scene couraged Ian.
After the event, he got into the car with Julia amidst cheers, their silhouettes entwined passionately on the car window.
Was he so immersed in his role that he didn't care about my feelings at all?
"Delusional girl is really shameless!"
I left under the curse of the fans.
Back at the cold home, I had barely sat down when I received a call for help from Ian. "Morgan! I'm in the hospital. Come quickly!"
Although I was extremely reluctant, considering his life safety, I decided to check.
But when I arrived at the hospital, I found that Ian was not injured at all.
He sat there, meticulously taking care of Julia, who also had no wounds.
Seeing me arrive, Ian didn't show me any gratitude at all.
"Julia has finally regained her popularity. Don't mess up her career. Later, you explain to the reporters that what you said earlier was nonsense. Don't ruin her pure image."
I stared at him in disbelief.
So he called me to clean up their messes.
Did the man I had made famous thought I hadn't been scolded enough? He was determined to push me in front of the netizens to vent.
But before I could refuse, a large group of reporters swarmed in.
"Julia! How are you feeling now?"
"Julia, why did you want to commit suicide?"
Julia put on a pitiful look, her voice soft and choked. "I'm sorry to have worried everyone. I didn't want to be slandered. The pressure was too much, and I was so hopeless that I..."
Ian was heartbroken and blamed himself.
He said to the reporters, "Ms. Brown has a serious concussion and needs quiet rest. This accident was all because my agent, Morgan, spread rumors and slandered her, but we have reached a settlement, and Ms. Brown has forgiven her. I hope everyone will stop embarrassing her."
I stood there, stunned by his ability to reverse the facts upside down.
"I'm telling the truth. Ian, you're lying!"
I defended myself, but no one was willing to believe me.
At this moment, the doctor suddenly appeared with the examination result. "Ms. Brown, please don't take up medical resources. You're fine."
Julia's face turned embarrassed instantly, and the media knew she was putting on a show, taking a lot of photos.
Ian took her away in a hurry.
He called a taxi for Julia and then came back to command me to take him away quickly.
I immediately honked to alert the media to Ian's location, and then I left in a hurry.
Ian came back very late that night. After taking a shower, he got into bed and hugged me from behind.
This was his signal to be intimate. He always thought that physical intimacy could resolve my grievances.
But thinking about him hugging Julia made me feel sick.
"Do you need me to contact Julia to solve your physical needs? Or do you want Julia to listen to our love?"
Ian gave up in anger, while I actually slept well all night.
Chapter 2
The next day, I left home early and went to the company to settle our respective finances.
When I arrived on the set, Ian was yelling at his new assistant.
Seeing me, he still ordered me around, "Replace this assistant. Also, go buy me a coffee."
I snorted coldly, "It's your own business which assistant you want to use. Hire one yourself if you want!"
Ian was stunned, probably never expecting me to embarrass him in front of everyone.
After all, I had always gently coaxed and persuaded him to work.
He only needed to show up for the shoot to become a big star.
He took off his sunglasses and walked up to me.
"Are you still angry? How can an actor not do kissing scenes? Don't be so unprofessional!
"My relationship with Julia has been over for a long time. What we did was just for hype. It's part of my job. Why can't you let it go?"
The people around were watching the excitement, and everyone was convinced that I would compromise.
But this time, I directly dragged a supporting actor, Kyle Lopez, from the scene and made a gesture to kiss him.
Ian was horrified and rushed forward to pull us apart. "Morgan, what are you doing!"
I laughed and said, "What's the matter? I'm just rehearsing with my newly signed actor. Don't be so unprofessional!"
Seeing that his uncompromising attitude was not working, he softened and began to coax.
"I'm sorry, honey. Don't be angry. You make me very sad, I can't bear it! You still have to talk to the director and ask him to take care of me.
"We should be united as a couple. I'll announce our marriage news after this movie comes out, okay? Please forgive me!"
I looked at this man full of lies, feeling my heart bleeding.
I shook him off in disgust.
"Ian, let's get a divorce. We will rely on our own abilities from now on. I give you freedom."
If I hadn't heard his true words a few days ago, I might have foolishly believed that he really wanted to announce our marriage news and would be wild with joy.
But everything turned different.
I had been to the crew to visit him when he and Julia finished filming, only to overhear his affectionate confession to Julia.
"Julia, I have missed you so much over the years. I was not worthy of you and did not dare to fight for you, so you had to choose to marry that jerk financier. You must have suffered a lot. I'm sorry. It's great that you're back now. Let's start over!"
His voice was trembling, extremely affectionate as if he had been waiting for Julia for many years and had completely forgotten about me.
Julia was so moved that she threw herself into Ian's arms. "Ian, I also regret it. You already have Morgan. I thought you would never forgive me..."
Ian explained in a flurry, "Listen to me, Julia. I don't love her. Morgan was too naive, getting hurt at the set to save me back then. If I hadn't been with her at that time, she would definitely expose my affairs to the press.
"To force her to take the initiative to divorce me, I deliberately let myself be surrounded by gossip over the years, but I didn't expect she could even endure this! Don't worry, Julia. We are the perfect match!
"I'll use the hype of the scandal to stimulate her to ask for a divorce, and then I can get out of it cleanly..."
His firm commitment to Julia was like a sharp knife stabbing into my heart.
It turned out that my five-year marriage with Ian was a cage and shackles in his eyes.
Now that his first love came back to him, he couldn't wait to kick me out.
But he forgot how brilliant I had been in the past.
I used to be a very famous pop singer, singing soundtracks for movies and TV dramas. At that time, Ian was just an unknown supporting role.
I saved him in the fire in a fire on set, but the price I paid was that my voice was damaged by the smoke and, I could no longer sing.
Julia was also present at the time.
However, she not only abandoned Ian, who was her boyfriend at the time, to save her own life but also took the opportunity to hook up with the investor and become a rich wife.
Ian was hit hard and told me that he had seen through Julia's vanity and would never forgive her.
At that time, he said, "I'll regret it if I miss you. I love you. Your voice was ruined because of me. I want to be responsible for you."
I believed in his promise.
After we got married, he asked not to make our marriage public, claiming he was on the rise of his career.
I agreed and used my connections to build his career.
I thought he really loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me.
But I was utterly awakened by reality that day.
Later, he suddenly became proactive, staying in the crew every day, spreading its feathers like a peacock all day.
I knew that the scene at the celebration party was actually Ian's expression of his true feelings.
Since he wanted to be with Julia in a legitimate way, I chose to fulfill him.
Chapter 3
Ian chased after me and asked, "Do you have to treat Julia as an imaginary enemy?"
Exhausted, I replied, "Ian, don't pretend. Just go back together with her if you still love her."
Surprised by my straightforwardness, he started to deny it vehemently.
"You can vent your grievances back at home. There is really nothing between Julia and me. Why are you so agitated? I don't understand.
"I was just playing along with her at the party because you told me to cooperate with the organizer. I really don't know where I went wrong."
I raised an eyebrow at Ian, directly exposing him, "Do you remember what you said to her on the day the movie wrapped up?"
Ian was stunned and burst with anger and shame in a moment.
"So you eavesdropped on us? Morgan, how can you say you love me when you don't even trust me? Do you have to monitor me all the time?"
I found his excuses somewhat amusing.
His ability to make excuses was becoming more and more proficient.
Feeling a bit tired, I didn't bother to deal with him. I rubbed my temples and said, "I have already signed the divorce agreement. I'll take you to court if you don't agree."
Hearing this, Ian looked incredulous.
He immediately confessed, "Yes, I said those words, but it was for a rehearsal, and they were just lines! You're making a fuss about a divorce without understanding the facts. That's not fair to me!"
I was shaken by his words for a moment, doubting whether I had misunderstood him.
"Morgan, I will not divorce!"
Staring at me resolutely, Ian held my hand and asked softly, "When I wasn't famous, you said you'd help me win the Best Actor award. Are you going to give up now? Morgan, I only have you..."
Memories flashed through my mind, his sincere expression almost identical to that of the young man I had rescued from the fire.
It seemed that nothing had changed; he still had his passion, and we still needed to rely on each other to struggle in the entertainment industry.
The hardships of my years of hard work came to mind again.
The person in front of me was not only my lover but also the star I had brought to fame.
Ian carried our shared dreams.
How could it be easy for me to let him go?
But Julia had indeed become an obstacle I couldn't get over in my heart.
I shook my head resolutely. "Let go, Ian. Don't keep entangling me."
I gritted my teeth and freed myself from him, forcing myself not to look into his eyes.
With the pain in my heart hard to suppress, I turned and left, suddenly feeling dizzy, and then everything went black.
I fainted. When I woke up again, I found myself in the hospital.
Ian was holding my hand anxiously, his eyes bloodshot. "Morgan, why didn't you tell me you were pregnant? Please don't leave me, okay?"
I was shocked to touch my stomach, pinching the report and reading it several times before I confirmed that it was all true.
The little life in my belly seemed to flick.
Ian also touched my belly and said almost pleadingly, "Morgan, can you bear the baby to be born without a father? Let's continue to live well, okay?"
I closed my eyes and didn't push him away again, tears flowing down the corners of my eyes.
Perhaps the baby came here to ask me to give him another chance.
Ian really changed.
He began to work hard and often caught a plane back to accompany me at midnight, even though he was very busy.
He would study parenting knowledge carefully and even make nutritious meals for me.
We tacitly did not mention Julia again.
He tried to give me a sense of security with his actions.
I knew he was pleasing me deliberately, even making up for me, but I couldn't help but soften my heart.
That day, I got up and saw him sleeping on the sofa again, holding his phone tightly in his hand, which was a baby's photo synthesized with our pictures by the software.
I couldn't help but choke, waking him up.
He opened his eyes, looking quite nervous. "What's wrong? Are you felling unwell? Let's go to the hospital now."
Ian held me and walked out. I shook my head, pointing to the photo to explain that I was okay.
He breathed a sigh of relief. "Morgan, I really want to change myself. Give me another chance, okay? I want to take good care of you and our baby."
Having grown up with a single mother, I couldn't help but feel emotional.
I understood the feeling of not having a father too well.
When I was teased and bullied by classmates, my mother always told me to endure it, saying that it was already good enough for her to raise me alone.
I couldn't bear my child experiencing the same.
"Ian, I don't want to threaten you with the child. You don't have to pretend to be good to me for the child."
Ian affectionately held me in his arms, rubbing my nose.
"Honey, you are just prone to overthink it due to the fluctuations in hormones. I only care about you and our baby now.
"After I finish these two days of work, I will accompany you to the next check-up. Promise me, you have to be fine."
Marriage requires the joint management of both sides.
Everyone makes mistakes, but he was willing to change.
Looking at the baby's photo, I compromised.
I nodded, hugged him, and also embraced the happy life that was coming.
A few days later, when Ian accompanied me to the check-up, I vomited to the point of dizziness, which was too painful to bear.
But I saw it as a sweet burden. I lay on the bed of the private hospital, delighted to let Ian listen to the baby's heartbeat together, and I was so excited that tears overflowed.
But Ian, who had just been caring for me, suddenly stared at the phone with a strange expression.
A wave of panic surged in my heart.
"What's the matter, Ian? Look, the doctor said the baby is very healthy."
He looked up at me with an unmasked look of distress in his eyes.
"I'm sorry, Morgan. Julia's ex-husband leaked her private photos. I have to see he right now!"
