After His Mistress Scratched the Hypercar, He Slapped Me Summary
Chapter 1 of After His Mistress Scratched the Hypercar, He Slapped Me
The Fifth Avenue showroom smelled like polished marble and fresh leather. In the center of the floor sat the car—a matte-black hypercar, sleek and low to the ground. It was one of only five in the world.
Rafael Voss, the dealership manager, walked beside me. He wore a custom gray suit and smiled with bright, calibrated teeth.
“A magnificent choice, Mrs. Murray,” Rafael said. His voice was smooth like oiled silk. “Your husband’s firm has had an exceptional quarter. It’s only right you treat yourself.”
I offered a small, polite smile. “Thank you, Rafael. We’ll take it. Full payment today.”
“Right this way.”
He led me to the private closing desk. I pulled a sleek titanium card from my purse and handed it to him. It was the card tied to the Murray family's primary domestic accounts—accounts I had quietly funneled millions into over the last three years.
Rafael took it with both hands, reverently, and swiped it through the terminal.
A sharp, unpleasant beep echoed in the quiet room.
Rafael blinked. The screen flashed red.
*Transaction Declined.*
“Odd,” Rafael murmured. He gave a nervous chuckle. “Must be a network hiccup with the terminal. Let me try again.”
He swiped it a second time.
*Transaction Declined.*
The silence in the showroom grew thick. Rafael didn’t smile this time. His back straightened, and his warm tone vanished like water on hot pavement. Across the floor, a couple looking at an Aston Martin paused to glance over. Two junior salesmen near the glass partition exchanged quick smirks.
“Is there an issue with your account, Mrs. Murray?” Rafael asked. The deference was gone. Now, he sounded like a bouncer at a club checking a fake ID.
“There shouldn't be,” I said evenly. My voice remained steady. “Please call the private banking desk directly. They will clear the hold.”
Before Rafael could reach for the desk phone, the heavy glass doors at the entrance slid open.
A laugh drifted into the showroom—light, girlish, and familiar.
I turned around.
Sebastian strolled in. His charcoal coat was unbuttoned, his white dress shirt open at the neck. Right above the crisp collar, two dark purple bruises bloomed against his skin. Hickeys. Fresh ones.
Clinging tightly to his arm was Antonella Flores.
She wore a cream cashmere coat draped over bare shoulders. When she saw me, her lips curved into a smug, sharp smile. She lifted her right arm, brushing a stray lock of hair behind her ear.
The showroom spotlights caught the gold on her wrist.
It was an emerald-cut diamond cuff bracelet. Two years ago, I had paused outside a boutique window in Paris, admiring that exact piece. Sebastian had pulled me away back then, sccoffing. *“It’s tacky, Sutton. Too flashy for a quiet wife.”*
Now, it sat on Antonella’s wrist. She tilted her hand just enough to make sure I saw every single diamond.
“Sebastian?” I said, staring at him.
Sebastian didn’t look guilty. He didn't even look startled. He walked toward me with the unhurried swagger of a man who owned the pavement beneath his feet.
“Don't bother with the bank, Rafael,” Sebastian called out. His voice was loud enough to carry across the entire showroom. “The card isn't broken. I froze it.”
I stood up from the leather chair. “You did what?”
Sebastian stopped two feet away from me. He slipped his free hand into his trouser pocket, Antonella still pressed against his side like a pet.
“I had our accounts locked this morning,” he said smoothly. He looked at me the way someone looks at a stray dog on their porch. “Antonella told me about that little conversation you had with her last Thursday. She said you were rude to her. She cried half the night.”
Antonella pouted slightly, leaning her head onto Sebastian's shoulder. “She made me feel so unwelcome, Seb.”
“See?” Sebastian shrugged, unbothered. “She’s sensitive, Sutton. You know how important she is to my firm’s creative branch. If she’s stressed, my business suffers. So consider this a lesson in manners.”
A cold stillness settled in my chest.
“You froze my cards in public... over a junior assistant's mood?” I asked.
“She's not just an assistant. Her comfort matters to me,” Sebastian said bluntly. He turned his head, addressing the entire room. Rafael, the junior salesmen, and the wealthy onlookers were all staring now.
“Listen up,” Sebastian announced, smiling coldly. “No one in this city is to extend Sutton Pierce a dime. No credit lines. No private loans. No favors. If anyone helps my wife bypass my authority, Murray Corp will pull every account we have with your firm. Clear?”
A few onlookers chuckled under their breath. Someone near the entrance whispered, “Damn, Murray completely cut her off.”
I stood motionless.
My right hand drifted down. Without thinking, my thumb found the smooth platinum band of my wedding ring. I traced its cold edge, back and forth, over and over. It was a habit I’d had for years—a quiet way to swallow down the fire whenever Sebastian’s arrogance grew too heavy.
He had never noticed the habit. Not on our wedding day. Not once in three years.
He didn't notice it now.
Rafael Voss stepped out from behind the desk. His eyes flicked from Sebastian’s expensive watch to Antonella’s diamonds, and finally down to me. The calculation took him less than two seconds.
Rafael sneered, his chin tilting up.
“In that case,” Rafael said, his voice dropping into cold ice, “I’m going to have to ask you to step away from the vehicle, ma'am. You're blocking the display for paying clients.”
A quiet ripple of laughter rolled through the showroom.
Antonella giggled into Sebastian’s shoulder. Sebastian crossed his arms, smirking down at me, waiting to watch me break.
I stood alone in the center of the shining marble floor. No cards. No allies in sight. Just a room full of strangers laughing at the powerless wife.
