Chapter 2

Matthew's face immediately clouded with displeasure. "Cynthia, what's with the sarcasm? It's just a road trip. We can go anytime. Is it worth making a fuss over such a trivial matter?"

"Indeed, it's not worth it."

I replied coldly, leaving those words hanging as I passed him with my luggage, unwilling to utter another word.

Matthew had never seen such indifference in me before. Surprise flickered in his eyes, and he seemed somewhat taken aback.

Regaining his composure, he softened his tone and said, "Is Amelia upset because I left you on the highway that day? I'll make it up to her later. You're an adult. Don't act out over this."

Amelia had been gone for days, and if Matthew had cared even a little about our home, he wouldn't have made such a foolish remark.

But he didn't. He had devoted all his attention to Janet, risking Amelia and me for her mere cold.

Thinking of my poor daughter, I felt heartbroken again.

I shook off Matthew's hand and said, "There's no chance anymore."

"How can there be no chance?"

Matthew frowned, "I'll call Amelia down right now. She's such a good girl. She'll surely forgive me."

After saying that, he immediately started calling Amelia's name in the house.

In the past, Amelia would rush out happily for a hug at the sound of Matthew's voice.

But this time, despite several calls from Matthew, there was no response.

At that moment, Janet, who was wandering in the living room, suddenly exclaimed in surprise, "Look, Matthew! There's Amelia's portrait here!"

Upon seeing Amelia's portrait, Matthew's face turned pale instantly.

He pointed at the portrait and shouted at me furiously, "No wonder you're in a hurry to leave. Amelia is dead. You still want to hide such a significant event from me, right? Don't you know Amelia is the apple of my eye, my life, and the driving force behind all my work and life?"

The hatred in my eyes was palpable, "Matthew, stop pretending. If you really cared about Amelia, you wouldn't have left us on the highway."

"Is this the reason you killed Amelia? You vented on Amelia and even took her life because of such a trivial matter? She was also your daughter! She was so cute and good! How could you be so cruel?"

Matthew roared at me in anger, his eyes bloodshot with extreme fury as if he wanted to tear me apart.

I stared at him and asked word by word, "Do you think I killed Amelia?"

He roared with excitement, "What else could it be? Amelia has always been healthy. If it weren't for you, how could she have died so suddenly?"

I looked at him as if he were a stranger. "Matthew, am I such a venomous person in your eyes?"

I couldn't describe my feelings at the moment. Amelia's death was already a fatal blow to me, and I didn't expect Matthew to stab me deeply in the heart.

Seventeen years! I loved him for seventeen years!

Over the years, I gave him my whole heart without reservation.

I worked hard and paid sincerely, giving everything for him. I thought that at least I could occupy a place in his heart and earn the image of a good wife and mother, but I never expected that he would regard me as a demon.

Chapter 3

How blind I was to love him so desperately!

At this moment, I suddenly felt that my seventeen years of love and dedication were the biggest joke in the world.

"Isn't it? I delivered medicine to Janet, so you were jealous and resentful, and then you took revenge on Amelia!" Matthew said with certainty as if he had seen me kill Amelia with his own eyes.

Janet couldn't help but interject at this time, speaking sarcastically to me, "Cynthia, I know you've always been unhappy with Matthew's interactions with me, but Amelia is innocent. No matter how unhappy you are, you can't vent on your daughter. Amelia is still a child. How could you bear to do it! With your malicious nature, you're really unqualified to be a mother!"

Matthew and Janet echoed each other, turning the tables on me as if they were Amelia's biological parents and I was a malicious stepmother.

I felt nauseous. If I faced them any longer, I would really vomit.

Feeling extremely suffocated, I didn't want to stay a second longer and picked up my luggage to leave.

"You killed my daughter and want to leave?"

Matthew stopped me and slapped me fiercely.

Already severely injured and not yet recovered, I was instantly knocked to the ground.

At this moment, the pain in my body got worse, but it was far less than the pain in my heart.

For me, the pain from the torn wounds on my body is far less than the pain in my heart.

I remember when I first fell in love with Matthew.

He saw a hashtag online about domestic violence and was very angry. He said that only beasts would hit women, and he would never hit a woman in his life. He would only pamper the woman he loved.

But it turned out that the woman he pampered was Janet.

He was merciless when he hit me.

Seeing me lying weakly on the ground, Matthew showed no mercy and continued to say nastily, "Cynthia, don't pretend to be pitiful here. It's just a slap. Are you making such a fuss about lying on the ground pretending to be dead? Stand up right now!"

Even if he had the slightest concern for me, he should have seen that my face was pale, my body was weak, and I was trembling when walking, obviously severely injured. But he hadn't.

I wanted to speak, but my throat was blocked by blood, and I couldn't speak at all.

I could only show Matthew a very tragic smile.

I wanted to be strong!

But my tears still flowed uncontrollably.

The trauma of body and soul almost took my life. I was already extremely weak, and on the brink of death.

Matthew looked down at me coldly and said mercilessly, "Your crying is useless. Do you think I will let you go by pretending to be pitiful? Even animals don't eat their cubs, but you directly killed my daughter because of your petty jealousy. You have cut off my blood. I won't let you go!"

Janet also stopped pretending and showed her true face. She took the opportunity to fan the flames. "Matthew, I think it's because you have been too good and indulgent, causing her to be unscrupulous and even malicious to the point of killing her daughter. Such a person should be cut into pieces!"

Matthew took out his mobile phone angrily and coldly ordered his secretary, "Paul, have several desperadoes come to my house and throw Cynthia into the river to feed the fish. I want this murderer to pay with her life!"
