Chapter 2
Betty’s parting words rang in my ears for weeks.
*You used to love celebrating birthdays with me the most.*
The thorn dug deeper every day. Elon began working late every evening, claiming urgent merger meetings. When I reached for his phone on the nightstand to check the time, a new six-digit passcode locked me out. Two days later, a Junior associate in the finance department slipped a photo onto my tablet—Elon’s Mercedes parked outside Betty’s downtown building at two in the morning, his hand cupping her cheek through an open window.
More than a decade together. Five years of marriage. I still tried to convince myself there was an explanation.
Until tonight.
The annual foundation charity gala wrapped at ten. Elon slipped away before the final toast. His personal assistant, Mark, hesitated when I cornered him by the valet station.
"Where did he go, Mark?" I demanded.
Mark avoided my gaze. "He booked the penthouse suite at the St. Jude Grand. He said he had an off-the-record briefing."
"With Betty?"
Mark’s silence was answer enough.
I drove across town, my hands gripping the steering wheel so tight my knuckles ached. In the lobby of the St. Jude Grand, I spotted them stepping into the private elevator. Betty’s head rested on Elon’s shoulder, his fingers tangled in her dark hair.
I took the secondary service elevator straight to the top floor.
The suite door was unlatched, slightly ajar.
Low moans echoed down the carpeted corridor from the master bedroom. Wet, slapping sounds tore through the quiet air.
"Harder, Elon... fuck, right there..."
Betty’s breathless gasp split the silence.
I pushed the bedroom door open.
My husband stood between Betty’s spread thighs at the edge of the mattress, his pants shoved down around his knees, slamming his cock into her with brutal rhythm. Betty was completely naked, her legs hooked around his hips, clawing his back while he fucked her.
"Look at you," Elon grunted, sweating, his hand gripping her throat as he thrust deeper. "You take every inch of this."
"Elon!"
The scream tore out of my throat before I could stop it.
Elon froze mid-stroke. He pulled his cock out of her with a slick, sickening squelch. Semen and slick dripped between her thighs onto the Egyptian cotton sheets.
Betty gasped, scrambling backward toward the headboard, pulling a velvet pillow over her bare breasts.
Elon didn't panic. He didn't even flinch. He reached for his slacks, pulling them up over his softening dick, zipping his fly with steady, uncaring hands.
He stared at me, his eyes dead and frigid.
"Are you done making a scene?" Elon asked.
The air vanished from my lungs. I shook, my fingernails digging into my palms until skin broke.
"We've been married for five years," I said, my voice trembling with raw venom. "Five years. And you dismiss me with 'are you done making a scene'?"
"You followed me here," Elon said, stepping toward me while buttoning his cuffs. "You stalked my assistant, tracked my car, and barged into a private suite. What did you expect to find?"
"You're fucking another woman!" I shouted. "In a hotel ten blocks from our home!"
"Because she gives me peace," he shot back, his voice rising, harsh and cruel. "Look at yourself, Uliana. You've lived in luxury for so long you've turned into an entitled, spoiled brat. You don't build anything. You just spend my money and complain about desserts at anniversary dinners."
"Your money?" A wild laugh escaped my throat. "My family backed your first three acquisitions! Charlie and I gave you the capital to survive!"
"And you never let me forget it," Elon spat. He gestured toward the bed where Betty sat shivering. "Betty built her own career. She struggled. She came from nothing. She’s the only woman in my life who actually needs me. You don't need anyone. You just want a puppet."
A sob broke from the bed.
Betty slid off the mattress, dragging a white sheet around her naked torso. Her knees hit the hard wooden floor with a sickening thud.
She dropped to her knees in front of me, pressing her palms against the floorboards, weeping hysterically.
"I'm sorry, Uliana! Please, I'm so sorry!" Betty wailed, tears streaming down her flushed cheeks. "It’s all my fault. Don't blame Elon! I just... I loved him for so long, and I couldn't stop myself. Punish me, hate me, just don't ruin his life!"
"Betty, get up," Elon ordered, his voice dropping into that protective, tender register. "Don't kneel to her."
"No, Elon, I deserve this!" Betty choked out, clutching the hem of my tailored trousers, looking up at me like a terrified victim awaiting execution. "Uliana, slap me if you want! Scream at me! Just don't take him away from the company. He worked so hard..."
I stared down at her theatrical tears, disgust rising in my throat like bile. She wasn't begging for forgiveness. She was putting on a show for the man behind me.
"Get your hands off me," I hissed, jerking my leg away from her grip.
"Don't touch her like that!" Elon barked, shoving himself between us. He hauled Betty up into his arms, wrapping his suit jacket around her bare shoulders. He glared down at me as if I were a venomous snake. "Look at what you're doing to her. You come in here barking orders, humiliating someone who has nothing. You make me sick."
"I make you sick?" I whispered.
"Get out," Elon said coldly. "Go home. Pack your things to sleep in the guest wing. We will discuss the logistics of this tomorrow when you've regained your sanity."
I looked at Elon, then at Betty, who was burrowing her tear-streaked face into his chest, her eyes peeking out at me with a gleam of pure triumph.
I didn't utter another word.
I spun around, walked out of the bedroom, and slammed the heavy oak door behind me.
My vision blurred with tears as I hurried down the empty hallway toward the elevator bank. My chest felt hollowed out, as if someone had carved away my ribs with a rusted blade. Five years of devotion, built on a foundation of lies and contempt.
The elevator doors chimed and slid open.
I stepped inside the brass-paneled car, pressing the button for the lobby. The mirrored walls reflected my pale, trembling reflection.
My phone vibrated in my palm.
A notification flashed on the dark screen. An unknown number.
I tapped the screen with a shaking thumb.
*You think Betty just came back to steal your husband?* the text read. *She doesn't give a damn about Elon. What she really wants is everything you have.*
Chapter 3
I spent the entire night gathering every bank statement, phone log, and hotel transaction I could find. If Elon wanted war, I would strip him bare in court.
By nine in the morning, my phone buzzed incessantly against the marble island.
Dozens of notifications flooded my screen. A trending headline on the city business portal made my stomach twist:
*Billionaire's Heiress Accused of Embezzling Charity Millions to Settle Personal Debts.*
Beneath it was a video clip. It had already racked up over two million views.
The footage showed me standing in the company lobby two weeks ago, pointing a finger directly at Betty’s face. The audio had been clipped, slicing out her whispered insults and leaving only my voice echoing with venom: *Get the hell out of this building before I destroy your career.*
Commenters were tearing me apart.
*Vicious rich wife.*
*She’s running the foundation like her private piggy bank.*
*Elon should divorce this psycho.*
My hands shook as I grabbed my coat and drove straight to my family’s investment offices.
Charlie was sitting behind his mahogany desk when I pushed through the door.
"Charlie, did you see the news?" I slammed my purse down on the wood. "Someone doctored security footage and leaked false audit reports to the press. We have to issue a legal retraction right now."
Charlie didn't look up from his tablet. He simply rotated a manila folder across the blotter.
"Look at it, Uliana," he said, his voice flat.
I flipped the tab open. Inside were wire transfers bearing my digital signature, routing hundreds of thousands from our family charity into an unlisted offshore account.
"This is forged," I said, staring at him. "You know my signature. Anyone in accounting could have authorized this using Elon’s clearance code!"
"Nobody forced you to threaten Betty in the lobby either," Charlie snapped, finally raising his eyes. "The board is in an uproar. Our partners are threatening to pull their contracts."
"Betty set this up!" I leaned forward, my knuckles pressing against the desk. "I caught her sleeping with Elon last night at the St. Jude Grand. She is dismantling my life, Charlie! I am your sister!"
Charlie sighed heavily, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Uliana, you really need to calm down," he said quietly. "Betty wouldn't hurt you."
The words felt like a slap across my mouth.
"What did you just say?"
"Betty came to me two weeks ago crying," Charlie said, shaking his head. "She showed me the texts you sent her. She offered to resign to keep peace in your marriage, but you kept pushing. You've become paranoid, Uli. You're seeing enemies in every shadow."
"She fucked my husband!" I shouted. "On our anniversary week!"
"Elon told me everything," Charlie cut in, his voice hardening. "You humiliated him at the hotel. You stormed into a private business consultation and made wild accusations. You need professional help."
A dry, bitter laugh tore out of my chest.
"You believe them?" I whispered. "Over me?"
"I believe the paper trail," Charlie said, closing the folder. "Go home. Let the lawyers handle this before you dig the grave any deeper."
I turned on my heel and walked out, the air in the corridor thinning until I could barely breathe.
I needed an ally. Someone outside the family politics.
I drove straight to Tessa’s boutique downtown. The chime above the glass door rang as I barged in.
"Tessa, I need your public relations team," I said, scanning the showroom. "Charlie has lost his mind, and—"
My voice died in my throat.
Sitting on the velvet sofa near the fitting rooms was Betty, holding a cup of herbal tea.
Tessa was kneeling beside her, pinning the hem of an emerald evening gown around Betty's waist.
Tessa glanced up, her expression freezing for an instant before settling into guarded annoyance.
"Uliana," Tessa said, standing up and dusting off her knees. "You didn't make an appointment."
"What is she doing here?" I pointed at Betty.
Betty offered a small, frightened cringe, pulling her shawl tighter around her shoulders.
"I told her she could pick a dress for the upcoming gala," Tessa answered, crossing her arms. "Betty has been through enough this morning with that dreadful press leak."
"She caused the leak!" I stepped closer, my voice shaking with raw disbelief. "Tessa, you've been my best friend since college. How can you stand there catering to the woman who is sleeping with Elon?"
"Because Betty didn't do anything wrong!" Tessa fired back, stepping directly between Betty and me. "Elon was miserable with you for years, Uliana! You controlled his schedule, you belittled his background, and you treated everyone around you like hired staff! Betty actually listens to him."
"You knew?" The realization hit me like a physical blow. "You knew they were sleeping together?"
"I introduced them again at the reunion," Tessa said without flinching. "Elon deserved to be happy. You've spent your whole life having everything handed to you. It's time you learned what consequences feel like."
I stared at the woman I had shared seven years of secrets with.
Not an ounce of remorse flickered in her eyes. Only cold, settled resentment.
"Get out of my shop, Uliana," Tessa said. "You're scaring my client."
I backed away toward the door.
My husband. My brother. My best friend.
The entire foundation of my life had vanished in less than twelve hours.
When I pulled up to the estate gates, two security guards stopped my car.
Elon stood by the front steps of the manor, flanked by two men in dark suits. A pair of large leather suitcases sat on the gravel beside him.
I slammed my car door and marched toward him. "What is this, Elon?"
Elon looked down from the porch, holding an official corporate packet.
"As the majority voting trustee of the estate and senior managing partner," Elon stated, his tone chillingly formal, "I have officially suspended your executive clearance. Your accounts are flagged pending the forensic audit."
"This is my family's estate!" I shouted. "My grandfather built this house!"
"And Charlie signed the transfer authorization this morning," Elon replied smoothly. "You are a liability to the brand, Uliana. The board voted unanimously. You are required to vacate the premises until the embezzlement investigation concludes."
"You planned this," I said, my teeth grinding together. "Every single step."
"You did this to yourself," Elon said, stepping aside as the front doors opened.
Betty walked out onto the veranda. She wore a soft beige cashmere sweater—one of mine that had been hanging in the master closet.
She walked down the steps with delicate, hesitant steps, stopping two feet away from me.
"Uliana," Betty said softly, her eyes shimmering with faux pity. "You already had so much. Why did you have to steal my happiness?"
I looked at her.
For the first time since this nightmare began, the urge to cry vanished completely.
A sharp, humorless chuckle broke from my lips.
"Your happiness?" I met her gaze, my voice dropping to a steady, icy whisper. "You're living on stolen time, Betty. You and everyone standing behind you."
Betty blinked, startled by the smile on my face.
"You'd better pray," I added, leaning an inch closer, "that I never uncover the full truth."
Elon grabbed my arm, shoving me back toward my car. "Get off the property, Uliana. Now."
I ripped my arm out of his grasp, turned around, and climbed into the driver's seat without looking back.
As I sped down the tree-lined driveway, my phone rang through the car’s speakers.
It was Lawyer Lawson, my grandfather’s oldest corporate attorney.
I hit the answer button. "Lawson, tell me you have good news."
"Uliana, pull over," Lawson's voice crackled with severe anxiety.
"What happened?"
"The board just convened an emergency proxy vote," Lawson said, breathing hard. "Charlie backed Elon's motion. They just froze your primary trust—the core foundation your grandfather left exclusively in your name."
My grip tightened on the wheel until the leather creaked.
"They can't do that," I whispered. "That trust controls the controlling shares of the entire empire."
"They cited gross moral misconduct and criminal fraud from the leaked audit," Lawson said, his tone grim. "Uliana... you have nothing left. No access, no capital, no voting power. They've locked you out completely."
The line went quiet except for the sound of my ragged breath.
Through the rearview mirror, the gates of the estate closed shut behind me.
Then my phone buzzed with an incoming text from that same unknown number from the hotel:
*Now that they’ve taken everything, are you finally ready to listen to who really orchestrated your downfall?*
