Chapter 2
There was another knock on the door.
I quickly wrapped the pregnancy test stick in toilet paper and threw it into the trash can. "Come in."
It was Maria.
Ever since she knew about my infertility, she had been looking for doctors, and she asked me to take a bowl of herb decoction every day.
I endured the bitter and fishy taste and forced myself to drink it.
But now, thinking of what Maria had done in my previous life, I slapped her hard.
The bowl fell to the ground, and the decoction splashed onto the floor.
Maria covered her cheek and looked at me in surprise. "Kristen, you... What's wrong with you today?"
I couldn't help but sneer, thinking, "Keep pretending, you old witch!"
When Edward and I had just gotten married, Maria looked down on me because I came from the countryside and ran a small restaurant. She thought I was not worthy of Edward.
However, I was good at business.
Not long after Edward and I got married, many old customers favored the dishes and wanted to cooperate.
Edward disagreed, saying that these people just wanted to steal my recipe.
I keenly sensed the business opportunity and quickly registered a food company.
Although Edward reacted strongly against my decision, I desperately took out all my savings and renovated and expanded the restaurant.
What was more, I built my brand and attracted investors nationwide.
With my constant efforts, in just three years, my chain restaurants spread all over the country.
I became a female billionaire with a net worth of over 100 million dollars from the owner of a small restaurant.
Thinking of it, I realized that Maria's attitude towards me changed after I made a lot of money and helped her family complete a class leap.
Maria was smart, and she concealed everything very well.
Whenever Edward and I argued, she always took my side.
She pretends to be really kind to me as if she was my biological mother.
Edward often jealously complained that others would think that I was Maria's child but not him.
I had a harmonious family, and my husband supported me.
Except for my infertility, everything was perfect.
Unfortunately, it was not until the last moment before my death that I saw the true colors of Maria, who was hypocritical and vicious.
I hate myself for being stupid.
Chapter 3
Amy Tyler, Maria's daughter, was at home on summer vacation. When she heard the noise, she hurried into my room.
Seeing the scene, she rushed forward and wanted to beat me. "Kristen, you are heartless. You can't have children, and my mom tried every means to treat your infertility. How dare you slap her?"
I was no pushover. I quickly stood up, picked up the desk lamp, and smashed it on Amy's head.
Fuck! These people relied on me and actually killed me in my previous life. In this life, I would not let them bully me again!
Unfortunately, at the critical moment, Maria pulled Amy away when the desk lamp was about to hit her.
I felt a little regretful.
Amy was stunned. She pointed at me tremblingly and said, "Kristen... You... Are you going to kill me?"
I threw the lamp to the floor. "Get out of here!"
Amy yelled, "Why? This is my brother's villa!"
"Your brother's villa? Don't you afraid that I can cut off your living expenses right now?" I looked at her with contempt.
Amy hesitated after hearing this, but she still yelled toughly, "Kristen, are you crazy? I'll let my brother teach you a lesson when he comes back..."
Before she finished speaking, Maria stopped her and said, "Amy, don't make a fuss. Kristen didn't mean it. She took so many medicines but still couldn't get pregnant. She must be in a bad mood."
Amy looked at the medicine decoction on the floor and looked at me with smugness and contempt, "Oh, I see. No wonder you made a fuss in the early morning.
"But even though you lost your temper, you couldn't hit my mom." She then looked at Maria disapprovingly, "Mom, you and my brother spoiled her."
Maria smiled awkwardly, turned to look at me, and said, "Kristen, it's not your fault that you can't get pregnant. Don't get angry. I will go out and clean the floor later."
Looking at their backs, I sneered.
I thought, "Maria, you are used to pretending to be kind, and you didn't resist even though I slapped you.
Well, just wait and see!"
Chapter 4
I looked at the time. There was only half an hour before Flora arrived and one hour before I died.
10:00 a.m., April 15, 2015. This time was engraved in my mind.
After Maria and Amy left, I quickly got out of bed and ran to the storage room.
There are a few surveillance cameras I bought some time ago.
The villa was quite large. In my previous life, I had suggested installing surveillance cameras indoors, but Maria and Edward disagreed, so I put the cameras here.
I turned on the camera according to the instructions. Fortunately, I bought a dual-purpose charger for convenience, so it was fully charged.
I moved a stool over and used double-sided tape to stick the camera to the shadow of the mural. It wouldn't be noticeable easily.
Then, I adjusted the angle according to the picture displayed on the phone screen.
In the picture, I could see the hall on the first floor clearly, including the staircase.
When everything was ready, I heard the sound of a car outside.
Edward was back.
In the third year after we got married, he knew that my business was getting better and better, so he decisively quit and came to be a supervisor in my company.
Actually, we had loved each other before.
Edward was an old customer of my first restaurant. He often came to the restaurant to eat, and we gradually became familiar with each other.
Knowing that I was single, he started pursuing me.
His pursuit was passionate. He basically spent all his spare time with me, showing his concern for me.
Edward's family was not good. His father died when he was a teenager. Maria raised him and Amy and sent them to college.
Therefore, even though he grew up in a city, he was not lazy. Instead, he was very good at cooking and doing housework.
My restaurant was small at the very beginning, but the food was delicious. I was always busy during meal times.
Edward always came to help.
He served food, wiped the table, and washed dishes.
The two waitresses in the restaurant praised him as a good man.
I liked him. So, I didn't hesitate to agree to be Edward's girlfriend not long after he started pursuing me.
A year later, he came to my house to propose marriage. My parents had no objection, and we got married smoothly.
After getting married, I thought I was still young, so I wanted to grasp the opportunity to expand my career first and then planned to have children after I had a solid economic base.
Edward had no objection at the very beginning.
However, when I really had enough money and wanted to have a baby, I couldn't get pregnant.
After going to the hospital for a check-up, the doctor said that I had a congenital fallopian tube abnormality and it would be difficult for me to conceive.
It didn't mean that I was infertile.
But Edward's family thought it was the doctor's euphemism, and I had infertility.
Edward didn't ask for a divorce, but he always mentioned this matter to provoke me.
Maria looked for many doctors, got countless folk remedies, and asked me to take these medicines in a soft but compelling manner.
Edward's mistress, Flora, was my former assistant, who worked for me for two years and resigned four months ago because of her pregnancy.
I didn't care much about my employees' privacies, so I didn't even know when Flora got married.
I just asked the financial staff to give her two extra months' salary as a gift.
After Edward knew this, he teased me, "Do you want to get some blessing of Flora's pregnancy in this way?"
I was annoyed.
Edward knew it was difficult for me to conceive, yet he still joked about it.
I retorted, "There are so many pregnant women in the world. Why do you think so? Can't I give rewards to my employees who get pregnant in the future?"
Edward said indifferently, "Look, you're jealous. Don't deny it."
I was sulking all day that day.
Yes, I did feel jealous.
It was hard for me to feel relieved. Others easily obtained something I had been longing for.
But I never expected that the two unrelated people had actually hooked up with each other for a long time.
When I was thinking of the past, a group of people entered the villa.
They were Edward, Flora, Maria, and Amy.
