Chapter 2
Harvey Green immediately pulled out a stun baton and slammed it against me. Collapsing onto the floor, I let out an agonized howl.
"You beast! Nat has been nothing but good to you!" Harvey hollered. "It's time someone taught you what real pain feels like. A guy like you who sexually assaulted so many women doesn't deserve to be with Nat!"
I snorted and said nothing. I wasn't going to admit to something I'd never done. I clenched my phone tightly, my sweat dripping onto the floor. Gritting my teeth, I raised my head and looked at them.
Forcing down all of my indignation at the injustice, I took a deep breath and climbed back onto my feet.
I turned to Natalie and asked, "Have you forgotten that I didn't even leave the house last night?"
Fortunately, I kept my wits about me this time. In my previous life, I'd been so caught up in the case that I forgot to give my alibi.
Natalie frowned a little. Disbelief flashed across her eyes. Before she said anything, I continued, "It was our wedding anniversary yesterday. You didn't come home at all last night, did you? If you don't believe me, we can check the security footage!"
However, my words were swiftly met with Natalie's palm crashing against my face. It was such a painful blow that my face went numb.
Her words rang sharply in my ears.
"You weren't home at all, Cameron! You were caught on the security cameras at the hotel yesterday. I waited for you at home, but you never came back!"
My eyes widened in shock. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
I clearly remembered staying in the house the entire evening. After getting home from work, I didn't set foot outside again. I'd placed a cake on the living room table and waited for Natalie to come home. It was already midnight when I ended up falling asleep, and I woke up to the news the next morning.
Marching straight to the computer, I checked the security footage—only to see that there was no sign of me anywhere.
I frowned deeply, and my mouth fell open in disbelief.
Harvey grabbed my shoulder from behind and squeezed painfully, bringing his head near mine.
I could hear the taunting provocation in his voice. "Didn't you say you were home, Cameron? Why isn't there a single trace of you in the footage, huh? Meanwhile, check out this footage."
He shoved his phone in my face, showing me a video with a timestamp that indicated it'd been recorded yesterday. Once he tapped the play button, the footage showed me walking into the hotel sometime in the afternoon.
I knew for a fact that I'd been waiting at home for Natalie. Why was I not in any of the footage taken of our house?
My brows furrowed even more.
Natalie's sobs rang out behind me. I turned around just in time to see her taking off her wedding ring and hurling it at my face. It left a gash on my cheek.
"Cameron Stuart!" she shouted through her tears. "How could you do this to me! I could've forgiven you if you'd only cheated on me with one woman, but why did you force every woman in Fenborough to get into bed with you? You're a monster. I want a divorce!"
She sounded adamant.
However, as I recalled everything she'd done in my previous life, I snorted.
I opened one of the drawers nearby and pulled out a divorce agreement. Throwing it down onto the table, I said with an icy sneer, "Sure. Let's get a divorce."
Natalie's eyes stilled. Her brows creased, and she eyed me for a moment before scoffing coldly.
"So you've already been planning for a divorce this whole time. That's why you put on this show for me, didn't you? Fine! Since you're the one who betrayed me first, don't blame me for not going easy on you either!"
Chapter 3
Natalie clapped her hands. I caught a flash of anger and hatred in her eyes.
Immediately, I heard a great deal of commotion outside the house. The front door burst open, and all the victims and their family members charged toward me.
Frowning, I checked the time. I was caught off guard to find that everything was happening earlier than it had in my previous lifetime. Back then, Natalie had brought the people to the house the next day. They'd broken my legs to leave me crippled, and I ended up dying on the operating table.
Natalie even brought Harvey back to the house earlier this time around.
Could it be that one of them had also been reborn?
I took a step back in disbelief. How could this be happening?
A middle-aged woman came clawing at me like a maniac, and all the women were hurling the worst insults at me.
"You monster! Why did you ruin my daughter's life? I'm going to make you pay for what you did to her!"
"My daughter jumped off a building to take her own life because of you! She'd only just graduated from college. She had her whole life ahead of her! You're not even fit to be called a human!"
"I'm going to cut your hands off to avenge my daughter!"
On and on they went. I could barely breathe as they surrounded me and attacked me, both physically and verbally.
This situation made me freeze for a moment. After taking a deep breath, I tried to make my escape, but Harvey held me in place and bellowed, "How dare you try to run after assaulting so many women? What makes you think you can get away with it, huh? You need to pay for your crimes!"
My brows knitted as I tried to break free, but no matter how hard I struggled, I couldn't get out of his grip.
Natalie came up to me, crying so hard that tears and snot ran down her face. She grabbed me by the collar and cried out in anguish, "How could you do this! How is this fair to me?"
Everyone was scowling at me. Their expressions were filled with bitter hatred.
Still, for the life of me, I couldn't understand why everything was being pinned on me.
The crowd kept me restrained as they continued attacking me. Some hit me with bats, while others slapped my face repeatedly.
I couldn't overpower them, so I grabbed a vase from the table next to me and threw it onto the floor. Once it shattered, I ducked down to get one of the porcelain shards.
Immediately, I held it against the neck of one of the women and shouted, "Get back, all of you! Take one step closer, and I'll kill her!"
Instantly, everyone fell silent.
I stood there, gasping for breath as I stared at them. Blood was flowing out of the wounds that covered my entire body.
My mind went back to all the suffering I had to endure in my previous life. I couldn't let that happen again this time.
With my head held high, I declared, "There's no way I could've hurt all of those women alone in a single night. If you don't believe me, we can ask the property management office to show us the security footage of the apartment compound. It'll prove that I was home yesterday.
"Someone must have tampered with the security cameras in this house. If I find out who did it, I won't let them get away with it!"
The crowd exchanged looks and eased up a little, but one of the women standing beside Natalie became even more enraged.
"Don't give me that bullshit! My daughter told me it was you who hurt her! She would never forget that face of yours! After what you did to her, you're going to pay for it with your life!"
I didn't want to waste any more time defending myself to them. I just wanted to get to the bottom of everything.
With a hostage still in hand, I started heading for the front door. None of them dared to get near me.
Just as I was about to exit the house, I saw a few police officers standing on the doorstep. Once they saw me, the lead officer said, "Cameron Stuart, I'm going to need you to come with us."
Chapter 4
When I saw the police, I thought I was saved. I immediately let go of the hostage and grabbed the officer's hand.
"Please help me! I can prove I wasn't at the scene of the crime yesterday. They're all trying to frame me for something I didn't do! I want to check the security footage at the property management's office. I want to prove my innocence!"
The officer scoffed before flinging off my hand. He looked at me as if I were a piece of trash. "Do you even hear yourself, Mr. Stuart? The security cameras at the hotel caught you going in and out with all those women. What is there left for you to say?
"The victims have all identified you as the culprit. We've come to take you into police custody."
I sucked in a breath and stumbled backward in shock. Frowning, I vehemently shook my head. That was impossible. Those women had never even seen me before. Why would they say I was the one who sexually assaulted them?
I'd seen photos of the victims. None of them had any grudges against me, so why were they accusing me of being the culprit?
That only made me question even more whether I had actually been at home yesterday.
After collapsing weakly onto the floor, I thought of something and immediately grabbed the police officer again.
"Please give me one last chance to prove my innocence. Let me check the apartment's security footage."
This time, the police relented, but they eyed me with a sneer. "Fine. Since you're so adamant about digging your own grave, I'll let you see the footage for yourself. Now I'm curious to see what you think you're going to find."
Behind me, the victims were still sobbing uncontrollably.
"Why does he get the chance to clear his name? He's a serial rapist! There's no way for him to prove his innocence!"
I ignored their words and went to the property management's office with the police officers. The lead officer jerked his chin and said, "Go on, then. Let us see what you can find."
Using the mouse, I quickly pulled up the footage from yesterday. However, after skimming through the timestamps, I couldn't find any footage of me returning home after work.
Natalie stood on the side with her arms crossed. With a mocking look in her eyes, she snapped, "You didn't come home at all yesterday, so why are you still pretending now? Harv was right about you. You're just a heartless ingrate. To think that I'd trusted you all these years!"
She suddenly burst into tears before pulling out a ring from her pocket.
"This was the gift I prepared for our wedding anniversary, but now, I don't think you deserve it!"
She threw this ring at my face as well, cutting me in the cheek again.
I caught the ring out of instinct, feeling taken aback. It didn't seem like Natalie was cheating on me after all. Perhaps she only flaunted Harvey in front of me in my previous life just to get back at me.
Why else would she have prepared a ring for our wedding anniversary?
What on earth was really going on?
I glanced at the employee who had been on duty yesterday and caught an evasive flicker in his eyes. Once again, I checked the security footage. Finally, things started falling in place.
The police officers were beginning to lose their patience. Sighing, the lead officer asked, "Are you done yet? Our time is precious."
I pondered for quite some time before thinking of something. I immediately rewound the footage to when I was supposed to have returned home yesterday. When the footage from midnight played, I smiled.
So that was how I ended up getting accused of being a serial rapist, but it wasn't true. I wasn't the one who hurt those women.
Pointing at the screen, I said to Natalie, "You're right. I wasn't home last night, but don't you think you should explain to me why this person showed up?"
