Chapter 3
"Nonsense!" Cedric laughed arrogantly. "Of course, our child will have my family's name and even Serena will have to take her husband's family's name in the future."
The guests could not help but laugh.
"Maxime still thinks that everyone is like him, following his mother's line. If we get married, the child will have the woman's family's name?"
"The Hoffmans and the Morschecks are well matched, so of course the child should take the man's family's name."
"Mr. Morscheck has one and only daughter. Wouldn't the Morscheck Group also belong to his grandchild in the future?
Serena looked at me with disdain and announced proudly. "Maxime, it's useless for you to keep pestering me. You are fired. From now on, Cedric will be the CEO of Morscheck Group."
I sneered nonchalantly. "I said, you have no right to fire me."
Hearing this, everyone seemed to have heard some joke and pointed at me.
Cedric did not hide his mockery and contempt. "Mr. Wilhelm, stop being stubborn. You have offended the Morschecks, not only have you been fired, but no one in this industry dares to hire you in the future. Your good days are over."
Everyone was shaking their heads and sighing, saying that I was foolish. I could have received compensation, but now I had nothing left and completely ruined my future.
However, I did not care, instead I stood up with confidence.
I looked around, at each of the guests present.
"Do you guys think that with my ability I should be dismissed?"
Those who could attend the celebration party were all companies that had in-depth cooperation with the Morscheck Group.
Serena had always been a pampered young lady. Her father, Dieter Morscheck, used to manage the company and then he handed it over to me.
Everyone present did not know much about her, but they all had dealings with me.
Some people's companies were on the verge of bankruptcy, but I had a keen eye for their projects and helped them through cooperation. Afterwards, they gratefully said that I was his savior.
Some people were prejudiced against me as a son-in-law at first, but after working with me over and over again, they became convinced and became brothers with me.
As for those who rushed to curry favor with me and maintain relationships with me, there were countless more.
But now, they either avoided my gaze or showed contempt in their eyes.
"Maxime, you see, I am useless. If you had been willing to part ways amicably with the Morschecks, I would have considered taking you in and giving you a meal."
"You had a good ability, but it's a pity you have done something too. There are many talented people out there and there is no need for us to offend the Morshecks for you. Who do you think you are?"
"You can't make it in this industry anymore. Remember to be humble next time. If you can't make it, find another woman to live with. After all, this is your profession."
As the words fell, waves of uncontrolled laughter echoed throughout the hall.
The people who once held me in high esteem were now treating me like a wretch when I was down.
The situation reminded me of what my father-in-law said when I first took over the Morscheck Family’s business.
He said, when his life and work were going well, many people were around him. But when he was down and in trouble, many of them left him.
Looking at the hypocritical faces, I kind of had a first-hand understanding, but too bad I would not live up to their expectations.
I stopped giving them a glance and spoke in a deep voice, "I'll leave my words here today. No one here has the right to fire me!"
"How long are you going to keep being such a shameless guy?"
Cedric gritted his teeth and roared at me. He could not bear it any longer.
"Serena has already abandoned you. Someone like you is not worthy of staying in such an upper-class social occasion!"
But I just thought he was a dog barking. Instead, I took a glass of champagne, shook the glass calmly and sipped it slowly.
Perhaps I appeared too calm, causing everyone to hesitate and think that I might have a trick up my sleeve.
Chapter 4
No one dared to drive me away from the huge venue.
Serena did not believe that I could create any storm. She rolled her eyes at me with annoyance and had her eyes on the door multiple times.
Suddenly, her eyes lit up and she said, "Mom, Dad, you're finally here!"
"Maxime, you said that no one here can fire you, so my dad must have the right, right?"
She took her father's arm and spoke proudly.
She was right. Even though I was the CEO of Morscheck Group, I worked for my father-in-law, the chairman. He did have the right to decide whether I stayed or left.
"Dad, I know Maxime is good at flattery and you like him, but it's painful for me to be with him. The only one I love is Cedric and I already have Cedric's child. Please help us!"
"Hello, Mr. and Ms. Morscheck."
Cedric put away his arrogant expression and smiled kindly.
Dieter had never liked him, especially since he once dumped his daughter.
But now, looking at his daughter's pregnant belly, he held back and said nothing.
My mother-in-law, Eleanor Morscheck, hugged her daughter with even more heartache and said, "Why are you so impulsive? Are you feeling uncomfortable now?"
"I'm fine, I'm just so angry with Maxime that my stomach hurt," Serena replied in a pitiful tone and snuggled in her mother's arms.
Hearing this, my father-in-law looked at me with dissatisfaction in his eyes.
The guests were a bit shaken by my confident expression.
Seeing how much Dieter and Eleanor loved their daughter, everyone no longer had any doubts and believed that I was just playing trick. Countless contemptuous looks stabbed me like knives.
Serena pursed her lips in confidence.
"Mom, Dad, I want to divorce Maxime. If you like someone to take good care of you, accompany you, or even wash your feet, just find a few caring nannies. No real man can't do this kind of self-esteem thing. As long as you get to know Cedric better, you will definitely like him."
Serena had her eyes on me in disdain. When everyone heard that I could even wash my parents-in-law's feet, they all backed away, trying to avoid me as if I were some dirty thing.
Seeing that I could not turn over, Cedric laughed arrogantly. "So what's the point of being a bootlicker? Without status and position, without confidence to support you, you will end up with nothing in the end!"
Dieter and Eleanor were about to speak, but I waved at them.
Serena looked at the scene in surprise and immediately scolded me.
"Since earlier, I have been asking you to leave on good terms and offering you some pretty good benefits, but you insist on saying I have no right to fire you."
"Now my parents who have the right to do that, are here, but you dare to stop them from talking! You know you have no hope with me, why are you still trying to trick us? You're really a bad person!"
"Mom, Dad, can you bear to see me being with someone with such evil intentions? I want a divorce, so just agree to it."
Cedric immediately took over the conversation. "Mr. and Ms. Morscheck, you don't want Serena to get pregnant with a child of no status, do you? As long as she divorces, I will marry her immediately."
My parents-in-law looked at me, then looked at Cedric and Serena holding each other tightly and sighed deeply.
"It's too bad that we are not a family. We can't force ourselves."
"Do as you wish, Serena!"
Serena was very happy. She immediately asked someone to bring the divorce agreement.
"Maxime, you could have gotten compensation, but you were too greedy. After signing the divorce agreement, you have nothing to do with me and you are no longer the CEO of Morscheck Group. Everything is your own fault!"
The guests' laughter and mockery filled my ears and Serena urged me to sign the divorce agreement.
Since it came to this point, I happily signed the divorce agreement.
"Since we have nothing to do with each other, I should let you know where my confidence comes from."
I dropped my pen and spoke to her word by word.
