Chapter 5
"Beta, we have a rogue on our territory," Sam, one of the patrollers, urgently mind-linked Lucas, the Beta of the Blue Blood pack. It was a message that sent a shiver down Lucas's spine, for the presence of rogues in their territory was always a matter of great concern.
"Shit, not again," Lucas thought as he received the message. Without hesitation, he made his way towards the pack's administrative office to inform their Alpha, David. Lucas understood the urgency of the situation and the potential dangers it posed.
Lucas knocked on the office door twice, hearing a low growl escape their Alpha's lips. He knew that the Alpha had a lot of responsibilities, and anything not crucial was typically handled by the Beta himself. However, this time, Lucas believed he needed to inform the Alpha and request his permission.
The door opened, and Lucas entered, taking uneasy steps and scratching the back of his neck as he stood in front of his Alpha. David never took his eyes off the paperwork spread before him.
"What is it?" David asked without looking up, his voice tinged with a hint of annoyance.
"Alpha, there was a rogue sighted on the east side of the territory," Lucas began, but he was quickly interrupted by the Alpha's harsh tone.
"Bring me the head," David commanded, his eyes finally rising to meet Lucas's.
Lucas understood the Alpha's frustration and the need to protect their territory, but something about this situation felt different. "Alpha, I think it's crucial to understand the rogue's intentions this time. I'd like your permission to investigate further."
David's gaze bore into Lucas, but after a moment of contemplation, he nodded in agreement. "Very well, Beta. Investigate, but do so swiftly."
Lucas nodded and left the office, knowing that the task at hand was fraught with uncertainties. He needed to determine the rogue's motives, and that meant approaching the situation with caution.
Lucas made his way towards a clearing in the dense forest, a few miles away from the pack houses. He could smell the distinctive and unpleasant scent of a rogue in the air. It was a smell that sent a chill down his spine, a reminder of the dangers lurking in the supernatural world. However, it was odd; he could only smell one rogue with three of the patrollers. As he got closer, he saw her.
A beautiful girl stood seemingly without a care in the world. Her dark eyes held so much power that Lucas nearly bowed his head in submission. Her long black hair was swept away by the soft wind, revealing her sharp yet beautiful features.
She was dressed in black military-style joggers that capped just above her ankles with ankle-length boots. Her fitting black V-neck top with short sleeves showed a bit of skin between where her joggers hugged her hips and where the top ended.
The clothes fit her perfectly, showcasing her fit body with ample muscle and curves. She stood with her arms folded across her chest, her expression giving nothing away. There was no fear in her eyes. The air around her held an indomitable authority that Lucas couldn't quite fathom. It only added to her dominant aura, even though the disgusting scent of the rogue filled the air. She didn't look like a rogue, but she certainly smelled like one, Lucas thought.
Lucas approached her cautiously, his instincts on high alert. "Do you know where you stand?" he questioned.
When she remained silent, he sighed, "You would be stupid to think you can come here as you please. But I don't think you're just a rogue." He paused, looking at her unchanging expression.
"Tell me, why are you here?" Lucas said, his voice slightly higher, searching for answers in her enigmatic gaze.
"I'm only here to take what's mine," Olivia replied finally. Her voice exuded power and authority, her eyes now directly locking onto Lucas's, who somehow managed to resist the urge to submit to her.
"And what would the Blue Blood pack have that a rogue would seek?" he asked, challenging her.
"My mate. I can smell him. Here," Olivia declared, her tone unwavering.
The puzzle began to piece itself together for Lucas. Her motives were now clearer—seeking her mate within the Blue Blood pack territory. Yet, her being a rogue, her unwavering confidence and audacity were truly extraordinary.
He sighed, "You are a fool if you think the Alpha would allow you to join the pack just because your mate is in it. He won't think twice before he snaps that little neck of yours."
She smirked at him, undeterred, and retorted, "Let him come with me then," a bold challenge in her words.
Lucas raised an eyebrow, studying her closely. "You're willing to face the Alpha, challenging his authority and risking your life for this mate of yours?"
Olivia's expression remained firm, conviction in her eyes. "He is my mate. I'll face any challenge to be with him."
Lucas sighed again, torn between his duty to the pack and this intriguing rogue standing before him. He knew she was playing a dangerous game, one that could have severe consequences for her. But something about her conviction tugged at him, made him question the established norms.
"If you're so determined," he started cautiously, "I'll take you to the Alpha. But I won't guarantee your safety."
She nodded, accepting the risk. Her determination was unwavering, and Lucas couldn't help but admire it in some strange way.
"Follow me," he said, leading her towards the heart of the Blue Blood pack's territory, knowing this meeting with Alpha David was going to be intense and possibly life-changing for them both.
Chapter 6
Lucas knew that he couldn't harm this girl. She seemed genuine, her intentions pure and her quest honest. If they harmed her, it would be akin to harming one of their own pack members. Thus, he made the conscious decision to bring her to Alpha David, leaving her in the care of other warriors before seeking an audience with their Alpha. The situation was complex, and he needed his Alpha's wisdom to navigate it.
He knocked lightly on the door to Alpha David's office before entering. He observed the Alpha's confusion as he walked in empty-handed. David was puzzled as to why his Beta would delay him when he had explicitly ordered the rogue's head. Impatiently, he demanded, "What is it?"
"Alpha," Lucas began, slightly bowing his head as a sign of respect, "it appears the girl is seeking her mate, who seems to be one of our pack members." Before David could respond, Lucas hurriedly continued, "She mentioned that she'll leave with her mate. If we harm her, we'll be hurting our own people. I think we should allow her to leave with her mate, if he wishes to go as well."
David's eyes burned with anger, and he released a low growl. "And you believe this rogue speaks the truth?"
Lucas swallowed hard before replying, "Firstly, she's alone, and she arrived alone. I don't believe she has any ulterior motives." He paused, carefully choosing his words. "I think you should meet her once. Her presence—it's not what you'd expect from a rogue."
Although David was furious at the delay and the perceived threat, he trusted Lucas's judgment. Suppressing his growl, he stood from his chair and made his way to the forest clearing, with Lucas following closely behind.
As they approached the clearing, David could smell the rogue before seeing her. However, what surprised him was that he didn't find her scent repulsive—it was soon overpowered by a sweet mix of vanilla and lavender. As he neared the clearing, the scent intensified, until his eyes met hers.
"Mate," Ace, his wolf, whispered.
She was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. The realization struck her as well, a crease forming on her forehead. She had thought her mate was a pack member, even a warrior she could convince to leave with her. Reality hit her hard. How was she supposed to ask the Alpha to leave his pack? Olivia thought, feeling the weight of the situation pressing down on her.
Her mate stood tall at about six foot two, towering over her five-ten frame. He was impressively built, his muscles bulging from his tight black t-shirt, paired with dark blue jeans. Olivia was captivated by his sandy blond hair, soft and slightly messy, adding to his allure. The scent of fresh mint emanating from him only heightened her fascination. His body exuded power, dominance, and authority, much like her own. For a few moments, they just stood, admiring each other.
"Alpha," Lucas finally broke the comfortable silence, addressing David.
David, too caught up in the moment, blinked and then nodded. "Bring her to the guest room," he instructed the warriors, his voice tinged with a newfound softness. Then, he turned to Lucas and ordered, "To my office," before walking away.
Olivia sighed, realizing the implications of her mate being an Alpha. Time was not on her side; her own pack would soon start searching for her. She couldn't mind-link them without risking exposure, and she had no other way to contact them. The clock was ticking, and she needed to formulate a plan quickly.
Lucas led her towards the guest room, his presence reassuring. He could sense her apprehension, her vulnerability beneath the mask of strength she wore. Olivia knew that the next steps were crucial; her fate and the fate of her pack hung in the balance.
Lucas led Olivia down a dimly lit hallway, his steps echoing in the silent, imposing structure that housed the Blue Blood pack. She couldn't help but feel like an intruder in a world that was vastly different from her own. The scent of polished wood and damp earth filled the air, a stark contrast to the wild, untamed aroma of her own pack's territory. The walls were adorned with paintings and intricate tapestries, telling the story of a pack that had thrived for generations.
Chapter 7
As they reached the guest room, Lucas opened the door, revealing a simple yet comfortable space. The walls were painted a soothing shade of blue, and the bed was neatly made, adorned with plush pillows and a cozy duvet. A small window allowed a glimpse of the forest outside, its ancient trees standing tall and vigilant.
Lucas gestured for Olivia to enter the room, and she did so, her heart pounding with a mix of anticipation and fear. She couldn't help but wonder what her mate, the Alpha, would decide. Her fate, and the fate of her own pack, was now inextricably tied to his judgment.
Lucas, still standing in the doorway, offered her a reassuring smile. "I'll inform the Alpha of your presence and arrange a meeting as soon as possible. In the meantime, please make yourself comfortable. You're safe here."
Olivia nodded, grateful for his kindness and understanding. She had expected hostility and immediate rejection, but Lucas had surprised her with his compassion. She watched as he closed the door behind him, leaving her alone in the unfamiliar room.
As she settled onto the bed, Olivia's thoughts raced. She couldn't afford to waste any time. Her pack, the Red Healers, depended on her, and they would be searching for her, growing anxious by the minute. The clock was ticking, and she needed to find a way to communicate with them without revealing her location or her mate's identity.
She reached into her backpack and pulled out a small, leather-bound notebook and a pen. It was a practice she had developed over the years—a way to keep track of her thoughts and plans without relying on technology that could be traced or hacked. Olivia opened the notebook and began to jot down her options.
First, she considered sending a coded message through a courier, but she quickly dismissed the idea. The distance between the Blue Blood and Red Healer territories was vast, and relying on an external messenger was too risky. Her message could be intercepted, and her mate's pack might discover her intentions.
Next, she pondered the possibility of leaving subtle markings in the guest room, but she discarded that plan as well. The risk of being caught in the act was too high, and she couldn't risk her mate or his pack members discovering her covert actions.
She needed a more discreet method, something that would allow her to communicate without raising suspicion. Then it struck her—she could use her unique abilities as an Alpha to create a mental link with a trusted member of her pack. While her mate, the Alpha, might be a formidable force, she doubted he could intercept or interfere with her mind-link. It was a risk, but it was her best chance of reaching her pack and ensuring their safety.
Olivia closed her notebook and took a deep breath, her determination renewed. She needed to find a way to reach a member of her pack and convey the urgency of their situation. She focused her thoughts on Ash, her most trusted pack member and second-in-command. If anyone could decipher her cryptic message and take action, it was him.
With her eyes closed, Olivia delved into the depths of her consciousness, searching for the familiar presence of Ash. She sent a mental message, careful to encrypt it in a way that only he would understand.
"Ash, this is Olivia. I'm in the Blue Blood territory. It's urgent. We need a plan. Watch for my signals."
She released the mental link and opened her eyes, her heart racing. Now it was a waiting game, and the outcome was uncertain. She had placed her trust in Ash and hoped that he would decipher her message and take the necessary steps to ensure the safety of their pack.
Meanwhile, Lucas had informed Alpha David of Olivia's presence, and the Alpha had agreed to meet her. The Alpha's office was a room of authority and power, adorned with symbols of leadership and strength. Alpha David sat behind a large wooden desk, his piercing gaze fixed on Lucas.
"Are you certain about her, Lucas?" Alpha David inquired, his voice laced with a mix of curiosity and suspicion.
Lucas nodded. "I believe she's sincere, Alpha. Her scent is true, and her intentions seem genuine. There's something different about her."
Alpha David considered this for a moment before leaning back in his chair. "Very well. I'll meet with her and assess the situation. But we must proceed with caution. Her presence in our territory raises questions, and we cannot afford to be careless."
Lucas agreed, knowing that the next meeting would be a critical turning point for both Olivia and the Blue Blood pack. The delicate balance between trust and caution would determine their fate and the destiny of two interconnected packs.
