Chapter 2

I opened the notes app on my phone and looked at the detailed notes I had kept since Yoel proposed to me. I recorded all the nice things he had done for me.

Then, I looked at Rosa's social media profile and compared the posts she had made to my notes.

The more I looked at them, the more pain I was in.

Last month, Yoel bought me a Hermes bracelet. It turned out that he only got it while he was on vacation abroad with Rosa. Last year, he gave me a painting from my favorite artist for my birthday. However, he spent tens of millions of dollars to buy an entire art gallery for Rosa to invest in her as a new artist.

Five years ago, Rosa posted a picture of her medical report, showing that her kidneys were failing. That was the day when Yoel proposed to me.

Back then, I had my doubts. After all, he had always been cold toward me, and I didn't understand why he would suddenly have a change of heart.

He looked sincere at that moment, saying he had promised my late parents that he would take care of me for the rest of my life. Since I had a crush on him for many years, I blindly believed every word he said.

It turned out that he just took my kidney and killed my son instead.

Even though he had been treating me well for the past few years, it was just a lie like the cake tonight. It was just the leftovers from the grand dinner he'd had with Rosa.

While he was deeply in love with her, he gave me some crumbs to keep me entertained.

To put it nicely, that was the compensation he gave me. However, if my parents were watching from the skies, I figured they would be upset as well.

When I returned to the bedroom, I realized Yoel had already fallen asleep. Countless thoughts ran through my mind as I looked at his dashing side profile. I couldn't sleep at all that night.

When Yoel came downstairs in his suit the next morning, I was already having breakfast at the table.

Seeing the tie in his hand, our housekeeper, Wendy, teased with a chuckle, "Are you asking Mrs. Lawson to help you with your tie again, Mr. Lawson? You've been married for five years, but you're still as clingy as ever!"

Yoel smiled and waited for me to get up as usual. However, I just sat there and didn't move at all. I didn't even spare him a glance.

When he saw the cake box sitting perfectly in the trash can, he frowned and said nothing about it. Instead, he looked at me with a caring gaze. "What's wrong? Have you lost your appetite? Are you feeling unwell?"

I coldly told him that I was fine. "Don't you have to meet your clients or something? You should go to work now. Don't worry about me."

He smiled again and ruffled my hair. "Are you angry at me, my dear Felicity? It looks like I've been spending too much time outside recently."

I tilted my head to the side and avoided his hand. Sometimes, I was impressed by how he'd put up this loving act with me for five years for Rosa's sake. He really had put in a lot of effort to act so naturally.

"Once I'm done with my project, I'll find some time to be with you, babe."

I resisted the urge to scoff and agreed with what he said. Then, I suggested, "Why don't we hang out this Sunday? There's a famous art exhibition in Idani, and I would like you to check it out with me."

Yoel froze for a moment and said he couldn't make it that afternoon. He told me that he had to meet an important client. Hearing that, my heart fell completely. It was Rosa's birthday that Sunday.

I tidied Remy's belongings once more and suddenly noticed that someone had touched one of the small boxes.

I hurriedly checked the box and realized that a golden pendant was missing. It was shaped like a locket, and it belonged to my late mother.

I asked a priest to bless it so that I could give it to my son on his birthday. When Remy died, his blood stained the golden locket. I did my best to wipe it clean and kept it in the small box like a treasure.

When I realized it was gone, I instantly became emotional and rushed downstairs to grab Wendy's arm. "Did you steal the golden locket? Return it to me now, or I'm calling the police!"

Wendy was stunned by my loud interrogation, and she hurriedly said that she never touched my personal belongings. "By the way, Mr. Lawson, when you went out last week, Mr. Lawson came back with Ms. Shaw. Do you think…"

Before she could finish her words, I stormed out of the house. I wanted to look for Rosa, and she lived in the same residential area.

I only walked a little before running into her on the road. She had beautiful makeup on and was walking her dog in her luxurious clothes.

There was a golden locket on the dog's collar.

That was the gift I gave Remy.

When Rosa saw me, she chuckled coldly and nodded at me. That was all I could get as a greeting. I rushed toward her and told her to return the locket to me.

Rosa looked surprised, and she mocked me for being petty. "It's not even that valuable. Since Yoel has already given it to me, you're embarrassing yourself by wanting it back."

I suppressed the anger inside me because I really wanted to get the locket. "If you like it that much, I can buy a hundred of it for you right now, Rosa. All you have to do is give that back to me."

When she heard that, she looked at me in disdain. "I'm sorry, but my dog just loves this."

"You…" I wanted to say something else, but she interrupted me right away.

"Besides, didn't this locket jinx your dead son? Don't worry. I'm not worried about it being unlucky. After all, my dog has a better life than your son!"

The last bit of sanity I had had crumbled, and I slapped her twice furiously. I didn't care at all when she screamed in fear. Instead, I just turned around to pull the golden locket from the dog's collar, trying to get it back.

The fierce dog was shocked, and it bit me on my hand. My hand was bleeding nonstop, but I wouldn't let go at all.

"What are you doing?" Suddenly, I heard someone yelling from behind, and that person was rushing in our direction anxiously.

Yoel pulled Rosa into his embrace, and he looked extremely worried. She leaned against him and purposely showed her elbow, which was grazed a little.

"I'm sorry, Felicity. I didn't know the locket meant so much to you. If you're still angry about it, you can slap me again."

The caring gaze Yoel had for me was instantly gone when he heard that. "I was the one who gave Rosie that, and she had no idea what it was. If you're angry about it, just take it out on me!"

Meanwhile, I had finally removed the golden locket, and I looked at it in a daze. The necklace had snapped in half. However, Yoel thought I was still throwing a tantrum.

"Don't you think this is enough, Felicity? It has been three years since Remy died. When are you going to stop sulking over it? Apologize to Rosie now! You're lucky she's kind. If it were someone else, you would've been locked up by now!"

I scoffed in anger. "Locked up, huh? I'm not the one who should be locked up. Aren't you going to tell me the truth about the accident I was in back then?"

Yoel frowned slightly, and he looked a little anxious. "It was a case of drunk driving, wasn't it? Besides, the culprit has already been punished."

Rosa hurriedly calmed him down, telling him to forget it. "Felicity has always disliked how close we are. After all, a woman can get pretty unreasonable when she's jealous. You should hurry up and comfort her now. I'll be fine."

Yoel looked aloof and said that he wanted to send her to the hospital. "Haven't I comforted her enough in the past few years? She should take some time to reflect on herself this time. Otherwise, she's going to cross the line."

After saying that, he picked Rosa up and left without looking back. I had already given up on him as well.

I checked Rosa's social media. She only had a minor scratch on her elbow, and Yoel called a whole group of specialists to check up on her. As for me, I just got my hand wrapped up at a random clinic nearby. The dog left a horrible-looking wound on my hand.

After I reached home, I stuffed all of Remy's belongings in my suitcase and left.

Yoel didn't go home for two days, but he sent me a lot of messages.

"Since you've hit Rosie, I'm making it up to her for you by taking care of her."

"You were hurt too. Have you seen a doctor yet?"

"Are you still angry? I'll apologize to you, alright? If you like the locket that much, I'll get the best designer in the world to make a new one for you."

I didn't reply to his messages at all. Then, he rushed back to the villa on the third morning. I looked at the surveillance footage and saw that Wendy had finally found the divorce papers I left behind.

Yoel clenched the papers tightly, and he looked incredibly upset. Then, my phone started ringing furiously, but I rejected his calls repeatedly.

"Can you stop this, dear? I'm home now, and I'll apologize to you. Please don't pull my leg with a divorce!"

"You wanted to go to Idani this weekend, right? I'll postpone my appointment and go with you, alright?"

The messages came nonstop, but I still didn't care about them. I noticed how anxious Yoel looked as he paced around in the footage. Soon after that, he received a call and answered it on loudspeaker.

Then, I heard Dr. Fisher's anxious voice. "Something terrible has happened, Yoel! One of the nurses said she saw Felicity standing outside the office when we were talking the other day! Do you think she has heard what we said?"

Yoel's shoulders dropped, and his phone smashed on the ceramic table next to him.

"No… I'm sure the nurse had mistaken someone else for her!"

That was the first time he lost his composure. Unfortunately for him, his hopes were destroyed immediately.

"I've checked the surveillance footage from that day. It really was Felicity. She was there when we were talking about it…"
