Chapter 2
When I was less than a year old, my father died in a car accident.
The man who hit him to death was a wealthy businessman.
The wealthy businessman had always valued his reputation the most, and seeing how hard it was for my mother to raise me and Jason, he compensated us with two million dollars and a 2,153-square-foot house.
Seeing so much money, my mother immediately signed the reconciliation agreement happily.
But after getting the money, she threw me to my grandmother.
She thought I was a useless girl and was determined to pay more attention to Jason.
I was raised by my grandmother, and my mother never paid child support.
Since I was a child, I had lived with my grandmother in an old and shabby house, eating white bread and potatoes.
My mom lived in the big house with Jason, eating steak and sandwiches.
Later, when I was old enough to go to school, she refused to pay my tuition, so my grandmother had to go everywhere to borrow money.
In order to support my schooling, my grandmother, who was in her 60s, still did farm work every day. She was so tired that she couldn't even straighten her back.
She also did some laundry for others and worked with me until late at night every day.
Although it was hard, it was the most unforgettable time in my life.
Later, when I went to college, my grandmother's health was failing.
After her death, I worked part-time to complete my studies.
After graduation, I found a good job and also had a side business, and my life was very comfortable.
Just then, my mother suddenly came to the door!
She was paralyzed. Jason considered her a burden and was unwilling to take care of her, so he came up with a mean trick.
He asked my mother to use the inheritance as bait to get me to take care of her for the rest of her life.
But she had made a will beforehand, stating that everything she had would belong to Jason after her death.
Not only did Jason not have to take care of her, but her property also would belong to him after her death.
He was such a shameless bastard.
It was what Jason told me in person when I questioned him in my previous life.
But they didn't know that I was really happy when my mother came to see me.
I was willing to take care of her not for her property.
I had spent far more time and money on her than she could give me.
What I cared about was my mother's company.
It was what I wanted most in my life but never got.
But even my mother thought I took care of her for her property.
She never treated me as her daughter, but as a hired care worker. Even during the five years she lived with me, she never gave me a penny, but ordered me around as if it was her right, and threatened me with her legacy if she was not happy with me.
I endured all of that.
Because she was a patient and only had a few years left to live, I wanted her to feel more comfortable in her last days.
But she teamed up with Jason and fooled me.
My sacrifices and efforts had become a joke.
Chapter 3
My mother had never seen me like that.
I was used to trying to please her in the hope of getting a little attention and love from her.
"Rita, I have let you down before. I know I was wrong. I really need you now.
"Of course, I won't let you take care of me for nothing. When I die, all my legacy will belong to you. Will you forgive me?"
In her expectant eyes, I shook my head resolutely, "No! Who the hell cares about your property? You have the nerve to show them off. Aren't you ashamed?"
After being brushed aside by me several times, my mother's face turned cold, "How can you talk like that? I am your mother, and it is your responsibility to take care of me."
She wanted to put pressure on me by using her identity as my mother.
She was so shameless!
"Now that you know you are my mother, where were you when I needed you?"
From childhood to adulthood, she only had Jason in her heart.
Even though Jason had never come to see her in those five years, she had always talked about him.
At that time, Jason, who had been listening outside the door, rushed in.
"That's enough, Rita! Do you still have a conscience? Mom is already like this. Why don't you just agree to her? Do you want to make her mad to death?"
I sneered, "If you are filial, you can take care of her!"
He choked.
"Don't change the subject. I'm different from you. I have a child to raise. You, as a daughter, are more caring than me as a son. And you're not married, so you're the most suitable person to take care of her."
"That's right! You are my daughter. You must take care of me, otherwise... I will sue you in court."
I was disgusted by their shamelessness.
Unable to pressure me morally, they tried to force me with the law.
But I wasn't scared.
"Okay, go ahead and sue me. You abandoned me when I was young. Now you are old and in poor health, so you want me to take care of you. I want to see how the law will judge you."
At worst, I could pay her alimony according to the legal standards.
She wanted me to be the sucker like I was in my previous life. No way!
But I didn't expect them to be so shameless!
Chapter 4
Jason was determined to throw the burden on me.
Without even telling me in advance, he dropped my mother off downstairs of my house early in the morning.
Although it was April, the morning wind was very cold. My mother was sitting in a wheelchair, crying and snoting.
The neighbors were very kind. Feeling sorry for her, they covered her with a quilt and gave her hot water.
My mother cried and told them how unfilial I was.
They all had children, so when they heard that, they were so angry that they came to knock on my door in groups, with disapproval written on their faces.
Some old women were so angry that their eyebrows were squinted and their eyes were raised.
"Young lady, how can you be so heartless? No matter how many faults your mother has, you can't just leave her downstairs and ignore her. How cold it is. Why don't you bring her up here quickly?"
"That's it. You will get old one day too. Do you want your children to treat you like this in the future?"
At first, I had no idea what was going on.
It wasn't until I looked down the window that I understood.
It was an attempt to use public opinion to force me to compromise.
They really underestimated me.
I had died once, so how could I care about other people's opinions?
But I didn't expect that someone would post the video of that day online.
In the video, my mother's lips turned purple from the cold and her eyes were filled with tears, looking so pitiful.
If I wasn't the person involved, I would have been fooled by her aggrieved look.
Public opinion was overwhelmingly criticizing me.
[Her daughter is too vicious and actually did such a thing. So wicked.]
[Such a wicked girl. She even abandoned her own mother.]
[This is murder in disguise! Her mom can sue her in court.]
[Poor old woman, you can come to my house to eat meals.]
[Who has the old woman's contact information? I want to send her some nourishment.]
In the comment section, apart from scolding me, there were also kind-hearted people asking how to donate to her.
It was far beyond Jason's expectations.
