Chapter 3

I followed Lily to the place she shared with her boyfriend, Ray Murphy.

It was a rundown apartment in the sketchy part of town, the building falling apart, and the street outside was not even properly paved. However, none of that seemed to affect Lily and Ray's relationship one bit.

The walls were paper-thin, and I could hear every word as I pressed my ear against the side of the building.

"Lily, your parents treat you so badly. Are you really going back there? You're pregnant with our baby, and I'm worried about you. This is our first child."

Ray's face was full of concern.

Lily's face glowed with happiness as she eagerly pulled Ray closer. "Don't worry, Ray. I'm not just going back to take care of Mom, I need to get my birth certificate so we can get married."

She added, "Remember when we went to Mercy Hospital for the checkup? The doctor said the baby was perfectly healthy, and that's the best hospital in the whole city, so stop worrying!"

I listened from outside, catching a crucial piece of information: Lily got her prenatal checkup at Mercy Hospital.

I looked at Ray's honest face and the worry written all over it for Lily.

Even though my suspicions about Lily and Jayden having an affair faded by 80%, I could not let my guard down completely. Hence, I decided to go to the hospital and check for myself.

I called an old college friend who worked at the hospital, telling her that Lily was my distant cousin and asking if she could pull up Lily's prenatal records.

She quickly found the medical records for me, and the records clearly showed that Lily was over two months pregnant.

I pulled out my phone and scrolled through my chat history with Jayden. About two months ago, Jayden went on a month-long business trip out of town with his company.

Everyone at his office could confirm it.

Moreover, during that time, Lily was at home with me every single day. So, the two of them literally had no opportunity to hook up, let alone secretly conceive a child.

I walked home in a daze, feeling like there was a weight pressing on my chest. My biggest suspicion was that Lily and Jayden were having an affair and plotted to kill me after finding out about my 80 million dollar win, so they could run off together with the money.

However, all my theories were just crushed.

Lily was innocent, and so was Jayden.

I paced anxiously around the living room, pain and despair flooding through me. The moment I looked up, I spotted the surveillance camera in the living room.

I remembered the surveillance footage from my past life that Lily used to frame me. I opened my phone and pulled up all the recordings from the past three months.

In the footage, everything looked normal.

There were no scenes of me forcing Lily to scrub the floor on her knees. No instances of me verbally abusing Lily. I felt like I was losing my mind.

I spent three days alone at home thinking, but could not come up with a single lead.

Three days later, Lily came back. Unlike her usual tired appearance, she looked energized and radiant.

She said, "I brought back some eggplant from my hometown. How about I make eggplant parmesan for dinner?"

I pulled myself together and replied, "Let's skip the eggplant, Lily. Pregnancy brain must be getting to you already. You forgot I'm allergic to eggplant."

She stood there scratching her head sheepishly, saying she indeed forgotten. Her expression remained normal as she worked efficiently.

She was even more chatty with me than usual.

I watched her, and suddenly something occurred to me.

I pulled out my phone and made a call.

The next day, frantic pounding on my door shattered my peaceful sleep.

"Come downstairs and take a look! Your housekeeper, Lily, jumped into the river!"

My neighbor's panicked voice jolted me awake from my deep sleep. Despite that, I took my time applying flawless makeup.

Looking at myself in the mirror, I slowly smirked.

The show was about to begin.
