Crashing Into Flame

Cory grew up an orphan, relying on the kindness of villagers. When the local bridal purification master died suddenly, the village chief appointed Cory as his replacement. His first ritual subject turned out to be his childhood sweetheart Sadie. Nervous, Cory failed to properly perform the purification. As Sadie married Chris, Cory wrestled with conflicting emotions until Chris's sudden death confirmed his worst fears. Fearing for Sadie's safety and that she might expose him, Cory went to the Moss family. Though Sadie faced their hostility with dignity, the Moss family tortured her. Unable to bear her suffering, Cory confessed his failed ritual. Enraged by the truth, the Moss family condemned both to be burned at the stake. As Sadie chose to die with him, Cory awakened in their final moments as the legendary purifier foretold in prophecy.
